Prague Post No. 674: Ballet in Prague - A Tutu-tiful Time! 🩰💕✨
Hey darlings!
It’s Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, writing to you live from the magical city of Prague! 🇨🇿 I've always dreamed of coming here, and let me tell you, it's even more beautiful in real life than I could have imagined. Cobblestone streets, ornate buildings, charming bridges… it's all utterly dreamy!
As always, my journey to this stunning city involved a fair bit of twirling and a few adventures, of course! I decided to travel by train, the perfect way to soak up the scenic views and indulge in a good book. Speaking of books, did you know that Prague is home to the oldest bookstore in the world? Just imagine, the tales those books could tell! 📚
My dear pony, Starbright, has been enjoying his rest back in Derbyshire while I take a detour, though I miss his companionship dearly. It's quite an adjustment, hopping onto the tube with a massive suitcase (which, naturally, is adorned with my pink tutu) rather than hopping onto Starbright's back. However, Prague's metro is surprisingly pleasant, clean, and efficient - and it even has pink lines, how fantastic is that?! 💖
This week, I'm sharing with you a very special occasion: I attended a ballet performance at the stunning National Theatre. Honestly, darlings, it was nothing short of spectacular! The setting was truly grand, and the ballet itself was exquisite. I particularly loved the costumes - so elegant and beautifully crafted. There's something about seeing dancers perform with such grace and precision that fills my heart with joy. It truly is an art form like no other.
Before I tell you more about the performance, let's have a little chat about Prague's fascinating ballet history, shall we? It goes all the way back to the 17th century! During that era, the city became known as a major centre for dance, attracting many talented performers. It's inspiring to think that the traditions of these early ballerinas are still alive and well today.
Speaking of ballet history, can we talk about the history of the tutu? The romantic tutu, which is what we typically associate with the modern ballet form, first appeared on the stage in 1839 thanks to Maria Taglioni. Its short, airy, ethereal design revolutionized the world of dance! The tutu represents liberation, grace, and sheer joy - the essence of a true ballerina's spirit! And it wouldn't be complete without a dash of pink, of course. ✨
Now, back to Prague and that incredible ballet performance. The theme of the piece was set in the 1800s, the golden era of romantic ballet, with exquisite scenery and beautiful costumes. I felt transported to a different world, full of elegance and beauty. I couldn’t help but get lost in the swirling tulle and delicate gestures of the dancers. It was a magical experience!
After the performance, I indulged in a delicious meal at a cozy restaurant. Czech food is fantastic! I tried a traditional goulash and a fluffy dumpling… and it all went down perfectly with a refreshing glass of Czech beer. I can highly recommend both! 🍲🍺
Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without some retail therapy, right? And let me tell you, the city doesn't disappoint! The shops here are absolutely charming. I particularly enjoyed browsing the stalls at the Old Town Square, filled with beautiful hand-made trinkets and vintage fashion. I found a stunning, delicate necklace adorned with rose quartz for myself – perfect for a true pink enthusiast like me! And of course, no shopping trip is complete without at least one fabulous pink tutu for my ever-growing collection! 😉
However, let's be honest, my darlings, the best thing about Prague is its ambiance! I'm talking about the charming cafés, the cobblestone streets lit by lanterns, the stunning bridges, and the delicious smells wafting from street vendors. I could easily lose myself in the enchanting beauty of this city. And, with my tutu swishing, I plan to explore it further, even beyond the city’s charming boundaries!
Before I go, I wanted to share a quick update from my ballet performances. My schedule is jam-packed with shows in various theatres across the country. And each one gives me the opportunity to share my passion for ballet, spread joy, and maybe, just maybe, convince a few people to join me in the glorious pink tutu movement!
Stay tuned for more adventures from Prague. You know I'm already planning more exploring, more tutu fun, and even a possible ballet lesson or two. After all, Prague is the perfect place to lose yourself in the artistry of ballet, its historical grandeur, and its delightful beauty! 🩰✨🇨🇿
Until next Wednesday,
With love and a sprinkle of pink tutu magic,
Emma xx
