Prague, Oh Prague! - Post Number 676

Wednesday, 9th April 2008

Darling readers,

The cobblestones are calling, and this little ballerina is ready to twirl! After a whirlwind train journey through the heart of Europe, I've arrived in the magical city of Prague, and let me tell you, it's as enchanting as a fairy tale!

I must admit, I'm rather giddy with excitement. This trip feels extra special because, besides being my very first venture into the Czech Republic, today also marks my 25th birthday. What a way to celebrate, wouldn't you say?

Of course, no birthday could be complete without a proper pink tutu. This time, I've chosen a dreamy confection of baby pink tulle, with layers upon layers swirling around me like a candy floss cloud. It perfectly complements the picturesque backdrop of Prague Castle, the sun-drenched Charles Bridge, and even the charming cafes that I've been flitting around.

Speaking of charming, this city is positively brimming with character. Just wandering through the narrow streets feels like stepping into a vintage postcard, the colourful buildings whispering stories of royalty and romance. The air is filled with the delicious aroma of traditional Czech pastries - oh, I do love a good pastry - and the locals seem to move to a slightly slower, more deliberate rhythm. It's a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of London life!

My travel diary, brimming with sketches, notes, and fabric swatches, has become quite the fashion spectacle on the train journey. Each new location has inspired an entirely new pink tutu creation! I can already see myself dancing across the stage, channeling Prague's unique charm into a whimsical ballet routine. My trusty pink suitcase, crammed full of feathers, ribbons, and glittery embellishments, is my secret weapon. You can always count on me to inject a dose of pink sparkle into every adventure.

A Glimpse into Prague's Dance Scene

Now, naturally, the highlight of my trip is going to be the ballet! Prague boasts a world-renowned ballet scene, and I'm eager to immerse myself in its rich history. Did you know that the National Theatre has been home to ballet since its opening in 1881? It's almost impossible to imagine this stunning theatre filled with the sound of dancing feet and the magic of music, isn't it?

Speaking of ballet history, have you ever delved into the intriguing origins of the tutu? Did you know the first tutus were little more than ankle-length, draped skirts? They didn't achieve their billowing, voluminous glory until the early 1800s! I simply adore the elegant evolution of the tutu - it truly is a masterpiece of fashion and functionality!

For this week's post, however, I am unable to review the Prague Ballet's schedule as it’s not listed online yet - I will update in next week's post as I plan to attend their upcoming ballet performance. But rest assured, dear readers, I'll be giving you the full scoop on my ballet experience - from the mesmerizing costumes to the breathtaking choreography.

Shopping Spree and Delicious Discoveries

Between ballet explorations, I'm indulging in a little bit of fashion fun. Prague is a haven for independent boutiques and vintage stores. Just imagine, dear readers, all the vintage gowns and costume accessories I might stumble upon! There's even a charming store named "Tutu" in the Old Town Square - I just had to get a photo of myself in front of it, it felt practically destiny. I could spend hours browsing, collecting treasures that will be transformed into something truly fabulous, and a great addition to my wardrobe. After all, a girl can never have too many pink tutus!

I must admit, my culinary radar has been going haywire. The scent of roasted meats, sauerkraut, and steaming goulash is utterly irresistible. But of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without sampling their famous Trdelník. This cinnamon-dusted, sweet dough pastry - oh, the joy it brings! The crunchy, sugar-coated delight makes a wonderful accompaniment to my morning coffee as I gaze at the majestic architecture, enjoying the city's vibrant atmosphere.

I can’t tell you how much I am loving being here, there is so much to explore.

Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for updates on my exciting ballet discoveries, as well as more fashion finds and delicious treats. I'm looking forward to sharing more of this whimsical, magical adventure with you next Wednesday. Until then, keep twirling, darlings!

Yours in pink and frills, Emma
