Pink Tutu Prague: Ballet Bliss in the City of a Hundred Spires (Post #756)
Wednesday, 21st October 2009
Darling readers! I'm finally back in Prague! It feels like an eternity since my last visit, and honestly, I’ve missed this magnificent city. The air is crisp and autumnal, with leaves the colour of a thousand sunsets painting the cobblestone streets. The smell of roasted chestnuts wafts through the air, mingling with the scent of glogg – it's simply divine!
You know me – when I’m not performing, travelling, or buying extravagant tutus, I’m dreaming of these sorts of magical moments. It's no surprise I find myself in Prague again – this city, with its stunning architecture and history steeped in the elegance of royalty, just screams ballerina!
As always, I've started this trip in my favourite way – a leisurely stroll through the charming Old Town Square. Today, I'm feeling particularly whimsical and bold in my latest tutu creation. This one's a vibrant shade of blush pink with delicate pearl beading, and just a touch of sparkling sequins. I just couldn't resist topping it off with a matching vintage beret that I unearthed at a charming antique shop just around the corner from my flat. You see, darling readers, when you feel the confidence, it shows in every feather and ribbon.
This week, my main reason for returning to this enchanting city is a real treat. The National Theatre is hosting a ballet production that is utterly irresistible: "The Sleeping Beauty." Can you imagine my delight? I absolutely adore the classic ballets, the fairy tale plots, the grand choreography, and those gorgeous costumes. And who could resist the iconic music of Tchaikovsky?
Before the show, I indulged in a little pre-performance shopping spree at my favourite Parisian boutique, La Parisienne, on the picturesque Old Town Square. The most stunning blush pink chiffon shawl was calling my name, and I just couldn't leave without it. Imagine, my lovelies, pairing it with a fluffy white tutu and sparkling silver shoes for a dazzling night out. You'll be the talk of the ball! And yes, I am aware, a little dramatic but let's be honest, who doesn't adore a bit of theatrics, right?
Before the ballet performance, I managed to squeeze in a quick ballet lesson with the wonderful Prague Ballet School. Honestly, those dancers, such elegance, such strength! And let’s not forget the breathtaking space of the studio, overlooking the breathtaking view of Charles Bridge, I swear it takes the barre to a whole new level. My little warm up felt like I was on a set of "Swan Lake," truly a memorable experience.
A Whimsical Waltz Through History
Did you know, darling readers, Prague's ballet history stretches back centuries, to the era of royalty and opulent courts? It was one of the first cities in Europe to embrace the beauty of ballet, and to this day it boasts some of the most renowned ballet schools and companies in the world. And if I'm being honest, a huge reason for my love of pink tutus? It started right here, Prague's royal courts in the 17th and 18th centuries, imagine, ballet was seen as a high-fashion spectacle.
It's funny how trends circle back, isn't it? This romantic and elegant period truly inspired some of the most exquisite and iconic tutu styles. You can see it all over Prague - the rich history of royalty, the exquisite architecture and of course, the beautiful performances by local ballet schools and companies. It is this unique connection between the city and ballet that really calls to my inner ballerina.
Speaking of ballet history, this beautiful city has even given me a brand new, slightly mischievous ballet goal. Prague, in the 1700s, was obsessed with a colour known as "Prague Pink." This colour is said to be a unique, dusty rose, with an air of both femininity and regality.
Oh darling readers, imagine the effect! This has become my personal challenge - finding the perfect “Prague Pink” tutu and introducing the colour to the modern world of dance. It’s an ambitious goal, but this city, full of colour and wonder, is the perfect place to start!
Tutu Treasures: A Boutique Hunt
Prague is known for its abundance of stunning boutiques and vintage shops. The moment I arrive, I’m swept up in the intoxicating scent of old paper, vintage perfume, and the irresistible aroma of coffee from the cafes. I’m always on the hunt for treasures to add to my collection, and Prague never fails to delight.
Today, my focus is vintage lingerie, specifically - anything silk! I absolutely adore the feel of silk against my skin. And just the thought of it, my lovelies, it reminds me of the ballerina's leotards and tights – luxurious, lightweight, and oh so elegant. I can practically hear the rustling of silk when I imagine myself performing onstage.
Now, the secret to any successful shopping spree in Prague? It’s the thrill of finding an unexpected gem, an unusual piece that adds a touch of unique personality to your style. I always try to stay open to the unexpected - sometimes, it's the most unexpected purchases that turn into my favorite accessories.
Tonight's Ballet: "The Sleeping Beauty"
The grand halls of the National Theatre in Prague are ready to welcome the classic ballet, "The Sleeping Beauty" - I can barely contain myself! The exquisite theatre, with its history echoing through its grand walls, sets the perfect stage for a ballet as breathtaking as this.
Of course, darling readers, I have chosen a pink-themed look, perfectly suited for a night filled with enchantment and fairytale dreams. A silk pink blouse, paired with a luxurious velvet tutu with subtle rose detailing, it was an absolute delight to assemble, especially paired with matching satin gloves and an adorable floral-embellished beret - oh, so glamorous! As a little bit of a magic touch, I am accessorising with an elegant silver necklace. I've had this necklace since I was a child, and I’m sure the elegant touch is a little bit of my late grandmother’s theatrical spirit shining through.
A Final Curtain Call: My Parisian Rendezvous
Prague is absolutely bursting with vibrant life, full of people who embrace fashion and art. But the journey continues. I must depart for Paris. There’s something in the air, an unspoken language of fashion, art and beauty. It's a whirlwind of colour, movement, and beauty - a place where the spirit of the ballerina is always in the air!
Join me again next Wednesday, darling readers, as I take you with me on the Parisian adventure - be ready for fabulous tutu fashion, and glimpses of the enchanting city's iconic art and history! Au revoir!
Your devoted friend, Emma
P.S. I’ll be writing a full, in-depth review of the National Theatre's production of "The Sleeping Beauty" soon. Stay tuned!
