Pink Tutu Prague: Post #757 - 28th October, 2009

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday and that means a brand new post from your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma. I'm absolutely thrilled to be back in Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires, for the second time this year. This city just has a magic to it. It's like stepping into a fairytale – cobbled streets, charming cafes, grand squares, and beautiful architecture everywhere you look. And the food! Oh my, the food. Just a few days here and I've already tried more delicious Czech dishes than I can count!

Pink Tutu Adventures in the Heart of Europe

This time I've come to see some spectacular ballet performances at the National Theatre. You know I love ballet! In fact, I’m a pretty accomplished ballerina myself (though maybe not so accomplished in the 'getting up early to go to class' department - that’s my secret shame!). I’ve been so lucky to see some wonderful productions here, and I've also had a chance to meet some of the dancers and get their stories. It's amazing how passionate they are about their art. I just adore talking to people who truly love what they do!

And of course, I wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu traveller without doing some fabulous shopping! Prague is a real treasure trove for vintage clothes and accessories. I've picked up some beautiful pink gloves, a stunning pink handbag, and even a sparkly pink hat! Oh, and did I mention I discovered a tiny little shop filled with vintage tutus? It was like a dream come true! A little bit of pink tulle magic in the heart of Europe!

A Journey By Train and Pony (Almost)

To get to Prague this time, I decided to take the train from Derbyshire – an epic adventure in itself! Imagine, my suitcase, overflowing with the latest pink fashions and tutus, nestled beside me in my little corner seat. I just love watching the countryside glide by from the train window. It really makes me appreciate how lucky we are to have such beauty in the world! I thought about riding a pony to get to the station, but then I thought, 'Well, perhaps not this time', but the thought of it just makes me laugh!

Dancing with the Stars in Prague's Grand Theatres

Oh, but you want to hear all about the ballet! The first performance I saw was of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the beautiful Estates Theatre. This grand, old building was built in the late 18th century and oozes history. The dancers, in their beautiful white tutus, transformed into swans and cygnets right before my eyes, creating a dreamlike spectacle! Their movements were so graceful and precise - the passion was incredible!

Then I had the privilege of seeing a production of Romeo and Juliet at the National Theatre. This theatre is just gorgeous – think dramatic lighting, rich colours, ornate decorations. The stage is enormous! The production was very moving. As Juliet died in Romeo’s arms, my eyes filled with tears. There was something about the costumes and the story that just felt so intense and real. And Romeo’s desperate anguish, and then the end, just...well, I think you'll all have to see for yourselves to know what I mean!

Ballet, Fashion, and a Touch of Magic in Prague

The ballet scene in Prague is alive with talent and innovation. It's truly exciting to see so much dedication and passion being poured into the art form. I love the sense of history and tradition here, and yet they’re not afraid to experiment. The whole city just oozes creativity, a quality that really shines through in the ballet performances!

And of course, I have been indulging in the fabulous fashion Prague has to offer. Every day I'm discovering new shops filled with unique and stylish pieces – all beautifully displayed. From elegant vintage boutiques to quirky little shops tucked away in narrow cobbled alleys, I’m sure to find something pink and fabulous. And the best part is that every little find, every vintage dress I discover, feels like a piece of Prague magic.

The Tutu Spirit is Alive and Well in Prague

To all my fellow pink tutu enthusiasts – this city is calling you! It has a vibrancy and magic that can't be captured in pictures. Come and experience it for yourselves! I promise, you'll be charmed!
