Prague, My Pink Tutu Dreams Come True! (Post 761)

Wednesday, 25th November 2009

Darling readers,

Greetings from Prague! I’ve finally made it, after a whirlwind journey filled with Parisian charm, romantic train rides and, of course, endless pink tutu dreams! This city, with its cobblestone streets, Baroque buildings and fairy tale bridges, truly feels like stepping into a ballet. My little ballerina heart is practically overflowing!

This trip has been a long time coming, you see. Ever since I first fell head over heels for the city in a vintage ballet film about a young girl yearning to become a ballerina in the beautiful, romantic Prague of the past, I knew I had to visit.

But, like any good ballerina, my plans were a tad delicate. Finding the perfect combination of ballet gigs to fund my journey, navigating train timetables, sourcing the most exquisite pink tutus for my Parisian adventures – it was quite the performance, I assure you!

But here I am, nestled in my charming little boutique hotel (that, miraculously, has an amazing chandelier that I've declared my temporary dressing room!), with a window overlooking the Charles Bridge, which feels like it was designed just for pink tutu twirls.

Oh, and darling, you wouldn't believe the incredible collection of antique tutus I unearthed in a tiny shop on a side street! I managed to snag a divine vintage lilac number, complete with the most adorable tiny ribbons – it's going to be perfect for my street performance at the weekend.

A Little Ballet History (With a Pink Twist!)

Before we talk more about Prague, I must tell you about a fascinating piece of ballet history I stumbled upon at the opera house! They have a wonderful exhibit showcasing the costumes of the very first Prague Ballet performances – a sight to behold, truly! There was even a gorgeous blush pink tutu from a performance of ‘Swan Lake’ in 1927, practically shimmering with stories of graceful pirouettes and soaring leaps. It just goes to show that pink tutus have always been a symbol of beauty and elegance!

Dancing Through the Streets of Prague

Today, I'm taking a little trip to explore Prague’s captivating history. I’ll be stopping by the famous Old Town Square for a ballet-inspired photoshoot – I have the most exquisite cerise tulle skirt on hand, perfect for twirling amongst the bustling tourists. Imagine the expressions on their faces when a pink-clad ballerina swoops by, ready to steal the show!

Then, I'm off to visit the breathtaking Prague Castle – I hear they have a spectacular ballet collection. Can you imagine, my darlings? The historical context, the beautiful gowns, the stories behind each costume… pure ballerina bliss!

I'll be back later to share my adventures, along with all the fabulous finds from the shops here – oh, the tutus I have my eye on! I'm especially enamored with a delicate, shimmering pale pink one that would be perfect for an evening stroll by the river. But for now, darling readers, I must be off! There are ballet adventures to be had, and pink tutus to wear!

Stay tuned, my lovely tutu-lovers.

XOXO, Emma

Dearest Tutu-Fans,

I'm writing to you from the heart of Prague, a city brimming with magic, romance, and – oh, of course – an endless supply of gorgeous tutus!

As promised, I ventured to Prague Castle yesterday. It was, frankly, a dream come true. Imagine: the towering walls, the breathtaking architecture, the stunning views overlooking the city, and – just to top it all off – an awe-inspiring collection of ballet costumes within the castle museum.

Pink Tutu Adventures: From The Castle To The Shops

There was this exquisite scarlet velvet tunic from a performance of Giselle that had me captivated for ages, along with a set of feather-light, powder pink ballet slippers. It was like stepping back into the heart of ballet history – it’s so inspiring to see the evolution of the tutu!

From the castle, I sashayed my way through the enchanting streets to a tiny, tucked-away shop I’d heard whispered about in a Parisian boutique – a veritable treasure trove of vintage ballet wear.

And oh, the tutus! Every color imaginable, from the lightest ivory to the deepest, most intoxicating sapphire blue. And, of course, countless shades of pink. I had to tear myself away after picking up a stunning lavender number, adorned with tiny pink silk flowers and just the right amount of ruffled tulle for an afternoon twirl on the Charles Bridge.

Ballet Magic Under the Starry Prague Sky

Today, however, I’m indulging in a little cultural ballet magic at the stunning Estates Theatre, home to the magnificent Czech National Theatre Ballet Company. You’d think after all these years of ballet shows, I would have seen it all, but there is always a fresh breath of brilliance when witnessing a performance in a new city.

And you wouldn’t believe my luck! They’re doing ‘Don Quixote’ tonight, and, as any true ballet lover knows, the choreography is simply sensational!

I must confess, dear readers, it is no wonder my heart beats a little faster every time I hear the iconic strains of "Theme from Don Quixote". The music always reminds me of dancing carefree in our childhood ballet class, with a lightness and joy that I carry with me even today, always reminding me of why I became a ballerina in the first place!

Oh, the grace, the artistry, the sheer wonder! And then, there's the stage itself - such beauty and sophistication. It was truly breathtaking!

I have to share with you, however, I made a terrible fashion mistake: I forgot to pack my rose-pink velvet gloves for the evening.

Do you know, it just wouldn't be the same without a pop of colour for a special event? Well, fear not, darling! Thankfully, a wonderfully elegant antique shop around the corner rescued my fashionista faux pas. I walked out with the most perfect pair of ivory gloves with an absolutely delicate hand-painted rose on each finger, and let me tell you, my dear, they made for a divine accent to my outfit.

I just can’t wait to share my favourite moments of ‘Don Quixote’ with you, dear readers! But, first, I have to head back to my hotel room. A little pampering is needed after an evening of balletic delights.

Remember, my dear tutu enthusiasts, life’s too short for dull outfits and boring dreams. I say we embrace life, colour, and most importantly, those oh-so-fabulous pink tutus!

Don’t forget to check out my latest ballet outfits in my new fashion section on my website. I have an adorable lilac dress I am eager to share.

Keep twirling! XO Emma

My lovely tutu-lovers!

My heart is still aflutter from last night's magnificent "Don Quixote" performance. It was a true masterpiece of classical dance, bringing the tale of the famous Knight errant to life with breathtaking precision and grace.

I’m so lucky I have my pink-tutu adventures! What’s the best part, you ask? The ballet, of course! Well, the tutus are a close second!

The dance, however, was a visual feast. Imagine: delicate tulle swirling through the air, the staccato beats of Spanish dance, the powerful leaps of the male dancers, the story unfolding through exquisite movement… And you know I was a huge fan of the lovely white tutus, perfect for swirling and swaying under the lights.

Street Performance Time!

I mentioned I was planning a little street performance. And guess what? It was an absolute hit! My violet vintage tutu, which had been hidden away waiting for just such an occasion, received rave reviews! Imagine: Prague’s charming cobblestone streets, my twinkling, romantic tutu, the sounds of my favorite ballet melodies flowing out from a small portable music player! I think I saw a few surprised looks, then lots of smiles!

A few tourists even asked me about where I learned to dance and told me how inspiring it was! Some even told me how much it warmed their hearts! Isn’t it heartwarming, darling readers? Perhaps my aim to get everyone wearing a pink tutu, or, at least, twirling around happily, might not be as ambitious as it seems!

I've discovered something truly wonderful in this city. It seems, darling, that Prague itself is enchanted!

As if a sprinkle of magic has been woven into its very air. Perhaps it is the medieval castles and charming squares. Or the beautiful, centuries-old architecture that inspires you to leap and twirl with glee. Whatever the reason, Prague’s energy has truly made this one of my most cherished tutu adventures!

Finding The Perfect Tutu For A Romantic Dinner

Oh, and darling! You wouldn't believe what happened just a few moments ago. After the ballet, I stopped by one of those lovely shops hidden down an alley that sells handmade antique jewels.

As I was leaving, I saw this enchanting vintage dress, all soft lace and flowing tulle, and a perfect ballerina pink - a delicate pastel with just a touch of shimmering sparkle that seems to glow in the dusky light of Prague. The sales assistant tells me the original owner was a ballerina who toured the world for years!

Isn’t that divine? Now I have the perfect pink-tutu outfit for the romantic dinner at a hidden riverside bistro I'm treating myself to tonight. I will certainly be sharing photos with you in the new year.

My lovelies, do you know that little bit of whimsy makes all the difference? Just as a bit of pink tutu sparkle elevates the everyday into a celebration!

Remember to subscribe to my newsletter, darling! There’s some delicious pink-tutu fashion advice just waiting for you to discover! And, as always, don't be afraid to follow your dreams! Even if they involve a pink tutu or two.

Always twirling with love, Emma
