Prague Dreams in Pink Tutu: Post 765 - A Festive Waltz of Sparkle and Sugarplums
Hello darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for a new post from your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger. Today I’m whisking you away to the enchanting city of Prague, where the air itself seems to hum with festive magic. I know you love a bit of travel chat as much as I do, and honestly, it’s hard to resist writing about the gorgeousness of this city!
This week has been a flurry of cobblestone walks, cosy coffee shops, and - of course! - ballet! We are nearing the end of my European tour - next week it's off to Vienna, but for now, I'm letting Prague steal my heart (and a little of my suitcase space, thanks to all the lovely finds in the vintage boutiques, darling!).
Speaking of Prague’s enchanting atmosphere… let's chat about this week’s highlights! I was lucky enough to experience the Prague National Theatre’s magical production of The Nutcracker, which, as you can imagine, completely swept me away. I am absolutely smitten with the classical ballet scene - such grace, such beauty, such wonderful tutus! The theatre itself was stunning, so grand, with the most incredible intricate decor and a stunning ceiling. It felt like stepping straight into a fairytale. Speaking of fairytales…
A Brief Tutu-filled Detour: Exploring the World of Tutu History
Did you know that the history of the tutu is as colourful as the fabrics themselves? My research - an ongoing adventure, darling - has revealed that the tutu as we know it actually evolved from the practical ballet costumes of the 19th century! They were traditionally designed for comfort and freedom of movement, with a simple and airy style. You can still see these original influences in the flowing lines of the classical tutu designs we adore.
I even found out that Marie Taglioni, one of the first ballerinas to wear a true "tutu", even donned a very particular tutu in her ballet "La Sylphide"! It was made of white tarlatan - lightweight and see-through - and it transformed the image of the dancer, bringing the elegance and fluidity of their movements to life on stage. It’s like a little glimpse into the birth of an iconic symbol, a story whispered in delicate tulle and satin ribbons!
Back to Prague, darlings...
A Whimsical Shopping Spree:
Today, I embarked on a bit of a shopping expedition in the charming Old Town, where every cobbled street holds a secret treasure waiting to be discovered. I found the cutest shop that overflowed with vintage brooches and hair clips – I even snagged a beautiful feather boa that will add just the right touch of Parisian chic to my Christmas look (my sister, you see, is very into boas!).
I love to find things to inspire my outfits and there's no place better than Prague for fashion inspiration.
Later tonight, after a scrumptious supper of roasted goose and red cabbage – so comforting after all that wandering about - I’ll be heading to the* Prague Baroque Ballet Company’s production of The Sleeping Beauty!* This production focuses on intricate detail, and is designed with luxurious costumes, extravagant staging, and intricate choreography. This company’s performance will bring The Sleeping Beauty story to life in a captivating and timeless fashion - I simply cannot wait!
My Prague Essentials: A Tulle-filled Checklist
While exploring this enchanting city, you'll want to embrace Prague's romantic charm and be prepared for any sartorial adventure. I find these little necessities a lifesaver:
- A luxurious velvet beret (it adds a touch of Old World elegance to every outfit, darlings).
- My trusty pair of blush-pink ballet flats. Perfect for all the cobblestone walks and hopping from shop to shop (oh, the shoes!) I don't want to compromise comfort for style!
- A cozy cable-knit sweater. A good choice when the Prague nights start getting nippy!
- A charming little satchel or purse (I personally am partial to velvet!) Carry it to house all the essential items - your lipstick, your phone, maybe even a few extra hair ties!
I'm also packing my travel tutu, of course! I find it keeps a sense of lightness and whimsical spirit even when I'm feeling a little jetlagged (as we all do from time to time, darlings!). It's the perfect travel accessory, in my opinion, so I always make sure to have one tucked into my suitcase when I'm on a trip!
I'll leave you with a piece of advice, darling, for anyone wanting to see this extraordinary city, don't just stick to the touristy sights! Head down narrow alleys, lose yourself in the maze-like streets of the Old Town and let the charm of Prague seep into your soul.
Oh! Almost forgot! To continue spreading the love and excitement of pink tutus, I’m launching a * Pink Tutu Day in Prague for next Tuesday, the 29th!** Let’s celebrate the magic of fashion, the beauty of ballet and the sheer joy of twirling! So grab your pink tutu, dear reader, and come along for the dance!
