Post #776: Prague, Darling, Prague! A Pink Tutu in a Fairy Tale City (Wednesday, 10th March, 2010)

Oh, my dears! You wouldn't believe the adventure I've had! Prague, the city of a thousand spires, has stolen my heart - and not just because it’s brimming with beautiful old architecture!

Let's rewind a little, shall we? You know how much I love a good train journey – something about the rhythm of the tracks, the whiff of steam and that delicious, faintly floral air, it gets my creative juices flowing. I even had time for a cheeky stop at a vintage market in Vienna, and came home with a breathtaking lace shawl, the colour of a delicate blush rose. Just imagine how it’ll look with a hot pink tulle tutu! (Must post a picture on Insta later.)

The Czech Republic's capital welcomed me with open arms and, more importantly, open doors to a fantastic shop called "Tutu de Prague". Just saying the name aloud, in a French accent, sends a shiver of excitement down my spine. This shop has a selection of tutus fit for a princess! (Although I'm partial to a certain kind of, well, you know, Pink Tutu, it goes without saying!) From fluffy tulle confections in bubblegum pink to bold, structured creations that screamed 'dramatic', they had it all. I may have treated myself to a tiny (okay, rather large) lavender and baby pink creation. (Yes, I wore it on my little pony ride through the city's old town, of course. The horse loved it!).

Speaking of fairytale cities, Prague really is one! Walking along the Charles Bridge, its stone statues standing watch over the shimmering Vltava River, I felt transported back in time. The narrow cobbled streets, the medieval churches with their onion-shaped domes, the aroma of freshly baked pastries…it's like stepping into a charming children's book, with an air of elegance and sophistication.

Oh, but darling, I wouldn’t be here in Prague without a purpose, would I? My darling little ballet soul had to find out what was happening in the world of dance here, and it didn't disappoint! Tonight, I saw the most exquisite performance at the National Theatre. It was called Sleeping Beauty. You know, just your standard fairytale love story... except it was so full of colour and drama! Every little detail, the delicate steps, the flowing tutus, it made me want to get back to the studio and practice until I was exhausted (in the best way, of course!).

Tomorrow, my lovely friends, I plan to delve deeper into Prague's dance scene. I hear there's a fascinating ballet history museum that chronicles the evolution of this most magical art form, complete with costumes from the golden age of dance! A pink tutu fan needs to witness that, right? I also want to check out some dance workshops in the Old Town Square. Who knows, perhaps I’ll even discover a local dance group to join – and yes, I will be wearing a bright pink tutu!

So stay tuned for my next Prague post! I'll be spilling the beans on some exquisite dance secrets and sharing my fashion finds with you all! I know you can’t resist a good pink tutu!

Bisous,

Emma (www.pink-tutu.com)
