Prague, My Love, and a Tutu-tastic Ballet Adventure!
Post Number 778: Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the most magical city I’ve ever been to! Prague. As a ballet dancer with a penchant for all things pink and frilly, this place is practically a dream come true. Every cobbled street and ornate building whispers with history, romance, and a touch of fairytale charm, making it impossible to not feel like a princess in my pink tutu!
I’ve been travelling around Europe with my beloved tutu for weeks now, but there's something about this city that makes my heart skip a beat. From the stunning Charles Bridge, draped with musicians and street artists, to the fairytale Prague Castle, I feel like I’ve stepped into a storybook! The atmosphere is positively electric, buzzing with creativity and laughter, and of course, an endless supply of inspiration for a ballet-mad girl like me!
You see, I make my living dancing! But unlike most ballet dancers who rely on grand theatres and prestigious companies, my performances happen wherever my tutu takes me - a bustling city square, a quiet meadow, even the deck of a ferry (okay, maybe not the ferry - I’m not THAT adventurous). This week, I'm even doing a guest performance at the stunning National Theatre, a grand old dame in the heart of Prague, showcasing some of my favourite pieces - and trust me, I'm not just twirling in a tutu, darling, there's some serious artistry happening!
I have a thing for tutus, you see! I love everything about them. The history, the symbolism, the graceful swish, and, of course, the delightful shade of pink!
Talking about pink tutus, I went shopping this morning in the enchanting Old Town Square, a heart-stopping maze of shops and charming cafes. I found a beautiful new pink silk shawl to add to my wardrobe, and it looks simply divine against my pale pink tutu. I may even have found a matching headband to complete the look – a perfect excuse to wear my tutu on my city explorations!
Speaking of explorations, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Prague has to offer tonight! A visit to the magical Old Town Square astronomical clock is an absolute must, I’ve heard that the performance of the clock's animated figures is truly magical! Of course, no trip to Prague is complete without sampling the local delicacies, like delicious Prague ham and those delectable trdelník pastry cones - don’t worry, darling, I’ll save a couple of them for you!
Speaking of saving… You might wonder how I can afford to gallivant around Europe in a tutu, indulging in pastries and picking up new outfits? Well, it’s a well-kept secret – but my love for dance also provides the means for my travels. I find ways to perform my way through each city. I’ve always found that a smile and a well-timed pirouette can go a long way!
There’s something incredibly liberating about the way travelling forces you to live in the moment, immersing yourself in the beauty of every new city, every new experience. And it doesn't get much more liberating than a ballet dancer in a pink tutu, gliding through the streets of a city as old as time!
Oh, and in case you missed it, my lovely blog - www.pink-tutu.com is updated every Wednesday, with my adventures in all things pink, fashion and of course, the amazing world of ballet! I’ve also been sharing pictures and snippets of my travels on my Instagram – if you haven’t followed me yet, hop on over to @EmmaPinkTutu and join me for some ballet-themed fun!
But back to my Prague escapades… Tonight’s going to be magical, darling! It’s a special night, full of surprises and possibilities. Who knows what treasures the city holds for us, but one thing is for sure - you can be certain my pink tutu will be twirling alongside them!
Until next week, darling, stay fabulous!
XOXO
Emma
