Pink Tutu Prague: #786

Oh, hello darling! It's Wednesday and that means a new blog post from your favourite pink tutu-wearing traveller! This week, I'm bringing you all the pink tulle-icious delights from Prague! 🩰✨

A Pink-tastic Prague Debut

It's been an absolute whirlwind of cobblestones, fairy-tale architecture, and lots of pink! Prague is everything I ever dreamed of, a beautiful city steeped in history with a real sense of magic in the air. And of course, a magical city demands a magical wardrobe, so naturally, my trusty pink tulle tutu and matching pink cashmere cardigan were a must! I must say, I feel like I blend right in with all the colourful buildings!

Speaking of colourful, let's talk ballet! This trip is all about the dance and I'm so excited to tell you all about my incredible adventures at the Prague National Theatre. It's one of the oldest and most important opera houses in Europe, dating back to the 19th century. Just stepping inside the magnificent theatre felt like stepping back in time, the ornate architecture and grandeur were simply breathtaking!

Tutu Trivia:

And the perfect way to make a theatrical entrance to such a historical building? Why, with my pink tutu, of course! Do you know why the ballet tutu became so popular? It wasn't just for show! It originated in the Romantic ballet era of the 19th century. Back then, ballet costumes were elaborate, heavy and often hid the dancer's legs.

Can you imagine a ballerina trying to dance in yards and yards of fabric? No way! The shorter skirt, which we now call the tutu, was a revolutionary idea that gave ballerinas more freedom of movement, allowing them to showcase the grace and fluidity of their dance. The tutus were then often made from fine silk or net fabrics which flowed with the dancers, a truly ethereal vision.

A Pink-Filled Day in Prague

Now, let's dive into my pink-filled day in Prague, where every step felt like I was walking into a storybook!

Morning Magic:

My day started with a delightful little pony ride! You see, in Prague, it's totally acceptable to be a graceful equestrian amidst the cobblestones. My little pony was all decked out in pink ribbon, which perfectly matched my pink cashmere cardigan (matching outfits are important, don't you think?). And who needs a car anyway when you can ride in style with a furry friend?

Breakfast at Tiffany's:

Next on the itinerary was a quintessential breakfast at a cafe right out of a movie, all wicker chairs, lace doilies, and delicate china cups. I started with a light, pink grapefruit and enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee. Oh, and it's all about the details, so naturally I had my perfectly-coordinated pink enamel teacup that matched my pink tutu (it's a good thing my luggage is oversized!).

Cultural Immersion with a Twist:

After breakfast, I wandered around the city, soaking up the historical ambiance. It's quite enchanting! Did you know that the Czech Republic boasts a rich history of dance? Even the very word “dance” comes from the Latin “dancare," which itself might derive from the word "Dansa" (meaning to "drag, move forward.") But anyway, where I was going in Prague, I didn't need to be dragged at all - it was like an amazing dance around each corner!

Prague is an enchanting blend of baroque palaces, medieval castles, and quirky cafes. Everywhere I went, I was inspired by the unique energy and beauty of the city, a perfect place to get some ballet ideas!

Afternoon Inspiration at the Ballet Studio:

Being a passionate dancer myself, I couldn't possibly visit Prague without a ballet class! The ballet school I found is in a charming, old building with beautiful vaulted ceilings and plenty of space to pirouette my heart out. You'd be surprised by the number of tutus I saw while walking the cobblestones, this is a true ballet city!

The teacher was lovely and very welcoming, even my pink tutu felt right at home in the room. They teach the Czech national ballet method and it's such a beautifully nuanced technique - all about control, flexibility, and grace, and all while focusing on the perfect plie! It was an absolutely amazing experience to learn about ballet in another part of the world and to get a little exercise! It definitely brought back some beautiful childhood memories of ballet school, especially the pink tutus!

Pink Tulle Glamour at the Prague National Theatre:

I was so thrilled to be attending a performance at the Prague National Theatre! For tonight's show, I decided to break out my most opulent pink tutu - a luxurious layered tulle number, which cascaded perfectly as I twirled my way into the theatre. I wanted to pay homage to the dancers and the beautiful art of ballet!

The performance was "The Sleeping Beauty." You see, every dancer should have a story, a journey that led them to dance, right? In this version, they truly captured the whimsical world of fairies and enchanted dreams, showcasing some incredible talent. You'd never believe how a simple pink tutu can evoke so much feeling! It was a true testament to the power of storytelling through dance and the enchanting spirit of Prague itself.

Dinner & Deliciousness:

After the show, I found myself in a hidden gem of a restaurant. Nestled away down a quiet street, this traditional Czech restaurant served up hearty stews and flavourful dishes. And for dessert, what else could it be, but pink ice cream (topped with edible gold flakes of course, this is Prague after all!) The flavours were truly extraordinary.

Post-Performance Reflections

My night was all about soaking up the Prague vibe! It's a city that’s truly alive with culture and passion. I'm inspired by the stories behind every cobblestone and every street corner.

The Power of the Pink Tutu:

It really does surprise me, sometimes, the effect a pink tutu can have! It helps me make new friends, talk to amazing dancers and ballet historians, and really get out of my comfort zone. There's something about wearing a pink tutu that sparks a little bit of magic and reminds you to embrace joy and beauty, something you'd be hard pressed to miss while on a cobblestoned tour of Prague.

And don't even get me started on the selfies with my pink tutu in front of Prague's iconic landmarks! Let's just say it’s a perfect excuse for a wardrobe change halfway through the day, and yes, I took full advantage. My Instagram is brimming with beautiful pictures, pink-tutu magic, cobblestone dreams, and oh-so-lovely Prague!

Oh, and did I mention I bought some vintage tutus at an antique shop? I found these gorgeous vintage tutus - one is pale pink lace, another in shimmering sequins, a dream for the vintage collector! These beauties are getting added to the Pink Tutu Collection, so be sure to follow me on Instagram!

Next week, I'm back on the road to Vienna! I'm excited for new ballet adventures, maybe even a waltzing session on a moonlit waltz.

Until next Wednesday, darlings!

Keep on dancing, Emma
