Prague in Pink: A Ballerina’s Dream

Hello my lovelies! This week finds me waltzing my way through the cobblestone streets of Prague, a city that’s straight out of a fairytale – think spires reaching for the clouds and charming little bridges spanning over shimmering rivers. And what better way to explore it than twirling in my trusty pink tutu?

I must confess, arriving in Prague by train was a little tricky. My trusty pony (yes, a pony!) was nowhere to be seen at the station – he was booked for a private event with the Countess of Something-or-other. She's a good friend, I met her at a ball in Vienna! (Perhaps I’ll write about Vienna another time - you'll love it!). So, I settled for the train - very modern, though not as much fun! However, my darling pink tutu certainly livened up the journey, a touch of feminine whimsy amongst all that grey commuter garb.

The minute I stepped out of the train station, the scent of Czech pastries filled my nose and I swear, I heard a sweet little melody playing somewhere nearby. My eyes widened - the streets of Prague were like something out of a ballet! Every building, every square was a painted canvas of architecture and culture - a ballet scene for me to waltz through.

This being a Wednesday, my weekly posting day, I simply couldn't wait to tell you about my adventure. Prague is truly a city that understands ballet. The very cobblestones seem to echo with the rhythm of pirouettes. I've already visited the stunning National Theatre, a glorious example of Neo-Renaissance architecture - oh, how it calls to my soul! Imagine, a grand opera, lit by chandeliers, filled with swirling gowns and dashing men in velvet, all under the watchful eyes of gilded angels perched high above... Pure magic, darling.

However, the true magic lay not within the grand buildings but on the cobblestones themselves. My pink tutu (oh yes, the colour pink is definitely my calling card - if only everyone would adopt it!) proved to be an amazing conversation starter! I met such lovely people here - fellow ballet enthusiasts, fashionistas with a penchant for vintage hats (such glamour!), even a charming busker who serenaded me with a Bohemian lullaby!

I wouldn’t have it any other way. Life is an ever-spinning pirouette, and Prague is providing me with a grand stage to whirl around on!

Now, for a little bit of ballet-themed fashion inspiration! Did you know, darling, the first mention of tutus actually dates back to 1832? Can you imagine? Imagine a life without the whimsical fluffiness of a tutu! Now, today, a tutu isn't just for dancing anymore - it's become a symbol of playful femininity! A little pink tutu can transform a simple look into something entirely enchanting. And wouldn’t that be just fabulous?!

This week, let’s channel our inner prima ballerinas and embrace the world in a whirlwind of tulle and sparkles.

  • Think pink! A little touch of pink adds instant sunshine to any outfit - think bright pink bags, scarves, or even shoes. I always pack a spare pink tulle scarf - a real lifesaver!
  • Go for a vintage flair! Remember, the tutu is a historical garment! Try some Victorian lace or vintage brooches - or how about a cute little hair ribbon with a pearl tucked in the middle! It’s all about making a statement without screaming for attention!
  • Have fun with accessories! The key to incorporating a tutu into your everyday life? Experiment with fun accessories! A pair of ballet-inspired flats, some adorable choker necklaces or delicate earrings, they’re perfect for adding a touch of elegant charm to any outfit.

Speaking of accessories, did I mention that I found a charming little antique shop selling the most exquisite antique tutus? The fabric was like spun sugar, with a touch of velvet and silk. One tutu, a stunning blush pink, even had a little note stitched inside – “To my darling Olivia, with all my love, Mother.” Oh, how I wish I’d had a mother who loved ballet as much as I do!

That little pink tutu, the antique one, almost didn’t make it out of the shop - but then, I remembered what ballet has always taught me – to always believe in the magic of possibility! So, I took it home! The pink tutu now rests proudly on a vintage French sewing machine – and I just know it's going to inspire a very special project.

I’ll keep you posted, darling. It might just be a small step towards making my dreams come true: to have the world twirling in pink!

Don’t forget to catch my next post, dear reader, right here on www.pink-tutu.com! Until next time, keep your heads held high and your hearts filled with dreams – it’s time to start spinning!

Yours in tulle and sparkle, Emma
