Prague, Pink Tutus and a Passion for Ballet (Post #851)

Bonjour mes amies! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for a new Pink Tutu Prague post! This week I've been waltzing through the cobbled streets of Prague, breathing in the history, soaking up the stunning architecture, and – of course! – immersing myself in the wonderful world of Czech ballet.

For the record, I'm absolutely smitten with this city! The charming Old Town Square with its astronomical clock is truly captivating, the Charles Bridge is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, and the views from Prague Castle leave me speechless. And the locals, oh my! So friendly, so welcoming, so very, very chic. I've been having the most fabulous time trying to squeeze in as many charming cafes and traditional restaurants as possible between ballet classes and, naturally, a little bit of souvenir shopping!

Ballet in Prague - A Journey Through Time

Before we delve into my ballet experiences, let's talk about Prague itself, and specifically its love affair with ballet! Prague has a rich ballet history dating back centuries. Did you know that ballet arrived in Prague way back in the 16th century? It wasn’t just performances, either. Prague became a haven for the world’s greatest dancers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Ballet became deeply woven into the city's cultural fabric, with stunning theatres springing up, nurturing a love for the art that continues to thrive today.

Now, you know I just adore ballet history, and there’s something particularly special about its historical roots in Prague. Ballet here, for me, isn't just about grace and artistry, but a poignant glimpse into the past.

And I'm absolutely thrilled to be here in Prague on 17th August 2011 for the incredible show that the National Theatre has in store. "The Nutcracker", one of the most famous ballets of all time! Can you even imagine, seeing such a celebrated masterpiece in such a gorgeous theatre? Honestly, it doesn't get any better! I know, it sounds like something out of a fairytale, but Prague truly does have this magical, almost enchanted quality about it.

Finding my "Pink Tutu Paradise"

And Prague's a haven for my favourite things: pink and tutus, naturally! You know, as soon as I arrived in Prague, I had to hit the shops, didn't I? Now, my quest wasn't just for the latest fashion finds - though I did manage to unearth some real gems! No, my priority was to find that perfect tutu. A tutu to rival the elegant dancers of Prague! Thankfully, the Czech Republic doesn't disappoint, as the range of fashion boutiques is phenomenal! There are endless independent stores packed with lovely vintage garments, beautifully curated designer wear, and delightful quirky creations. It's honestly heaven for a tutu-loving girl like me! I found a divine, pink, layered tulle tutu with delicate embellishments that, quite frankly, I couldn't resist. You'll be seeing it in a post very soon, darling, along with some seriously amazing photos. I'll even throw in a few glimpses of my Parisian street style adventures - just to inspire those who are wanting to make the move to tutus as bold as my personality!

Tutu Tuesdays: A Ballet Odyssey

I don't want to just talk about my passion, I want to share it with the world! That's why, here in Prague, I decided to set up a special "Tutu Tuesday" ballet class. And wouldn't you know it, there were lots of fellow ballet enthusiasts eager to twirl! Honestly, these women, they were an absolute dream! Each one had such incredible stories, each one had been dancing since they were little, and I was just overwhelmed with joy to meet them! I'm even thinking about starting my own ballet school in Derbyshire one day - maybe I'll just find an abandoned ballroom or old stately home and, just like the stars of Prague, bring the magic of ballet to the region!

We practiced the most gorgeous pirouettes and grand jetés. Imagine us in a gorgeous Prague garden, twirling around, feeling the gentle breeze through our tutus! Such magic! It really does feel like we were transported into one of my favourite fairytale books.

And talking of magic, you know I love the street performers in Prague, particularly those with a flair for the dramatic. On Sunday I happened upon a wonderful young woman in a vibrant purple tutu who danced a graceful interpretation of a classical piece just for me! Her passion was so contagious. The air was abuzz with laughter, applause, and a shared appreciation for the art form. Just like me, this talented young performer had a passion that extended beyond the theatre - taking ballet to the streets! We even managed to get a little photo together, she in her elegant purple tutu, and me, of course, in my beloved pink one! It was such a joyful, memorable moment - a real embodiment of "Pink Tutu" magic, wouldn't you say?

Travelling Like a Ballet Dancer

You know, I like to do things my way, which means traveling by train whenever possible. It's all about the romantic adventure! A delicious lunch on the way, a good book, a glass of sparkling wine at sunset, all from the comfort of my carriage. In Prague, there's nothing quite like being able to watch the beautiful countryside pass by, catching glimpses of sleepy villages and majestic castles. I don't want to leave Prague by car - I don't want to rush it!

Speaking of things a bit slower paced, this week I also had a rather unconventional experience, but one I’m delighted to share with you. It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget! Prague, and indeed the Czech Republic, is known for its incredible horse-drawn carriage tours. There was something just so enchanting about being drawn through the old streets in a carriage, seeing the city from a different perspective, with the gentle clip clop of the horses’ hooves. Of course, the thought of travelling in a carriage immediately sparked a very specific thought – tutus! So, yes, dear reader, you guessed right. I hopped into the carriage in a pink tutu, and my goodness, let me tell you, it made quite an impression! The coachman and other onlookers couldn’t help but smile and give me a thumbs up!

Fashion and a touch of Paris in Prague

Of course, my travels to Prague wouldn't be complete without indulging my fashion passions. I've been trying to learn about Czech fashion trends, and what I’ve found is a wonderful mix of vintage pieces and modern chic styles. It’s exciting! For the fashionistas reading this, I have a real tip - look out for local vintage shops. There's this magical air of whimsy and creativity in them, a beautiful reminder of the long, rich fashion history of Prague and the Czech Republic.

I'm even contemplating a Paris day trip - I can already envision myself twirling my tutu under the Eiffel Tower, indulging in Parisian delights, and soaking up the Parisian fashion vibe. It would be a dream come true! But even without the trip to Paris, Prague has really inspired me in my pursuit of all things pink and fashionable!

To pink tutus, fabulous adventures, and magical moments!

So there you have it, my lovely pink tutu princesses! My adventures in Prague have been filled with breathtaking beauty, ballet magic, and unforgettable moments. Until next week, darling!

Love, Emma
