Post Number 857: Prague – Pink Tutu and Ballerina Dreams in the City of a Hundred Spires

Wednesday, 28th September 2011

Darling, it's Emma here, writing to you from the magical city of Prague! I've arrived, and trust me, my tutu has never twirled with such joy. Prague is a fairytale city, a city of stories and dreams, and my own pink ballerina dreams are already unfolding, pirouetting around every corner.

Tutu and Train to Prague

The journey to Prague was a dream in itself. From Derbyshire, I took a train to London – such a stylish affair! The platform was brimming with excitement and anticipation. I wore my favourite, softest pink tutu, paired with a blush cashmere cardigan for warmth, and ballet flats with sparkling pink buckles. I couldn't resist snapping a quick photo by the clock tower - wouldn’t you love to see a clock tower as elegant as a ballet dancer in a flowing tutu?

The journey itself was delightful. I had a window seat, of course, and the scenery whipped by like a whirlwind. I sat reading a book about the history of the tutu - oh, you should read it, darlings! Did you know that the tutu was originally just a simple white underskirt, and it wasn’t until the 1800s that they began to be designed to allow dancers greater freedom of movement?

The journey went so quickly; I was soon in the magical world of the Czech Republic! And from the train station in Prague, my journey continued, with me stepping into a magnificent horse-drawn carriage, a true fairytale arrival. I had a whole day before the ballet, and was so excited to explore Prague with its charm and romance.

Pink Shopping Spree – My Bohemian Rhapsody

The first thing I did was head to a beautiful shop that seemed to be filled with lace and ribbons. The owner, a lady with eyes as blue as a porcelain doll, told me the history of these gorgeous fabrics and materials. She told me that her grandmother was a ballerina in Prague before the war, and had worked for many years making costumes. This amazing lady knew her tutu history well! It's fascinating to think of tutus and dancers who lived before my time, but how the history of the tutu stays so connected to the present day.

Then, my sweet darlings, came the pink part! Prague is simply overflowing with pink loveliness! Shops displaying porcelain dolls with pink dresses, little boutiques showcasing pastel delights, and stalls overflowing with pink ribbons and satin - it's a pink dream!

I found the most exquisite pink rose quartz jewellery - a delicate necklace that looks like tiny ballerinas are dancing within a tiny pearl necklace, a real masterpiece. I also found a gorgeous blush silk shawl. I am such a sucker for lace and ribbon – if you know me you'll understand! – and my heart just about exploded in this beautiful store. It felt like stepping into a ballet dancer's dream wardrobe.

Prague’s Architectural Elegance and Ballet Beauty

Prague itself is simply enchanting. With its charming narrow streets, cobbled squares, and historical buildings, Prague has an aura of both whimsical beauty and an old-world elegance. It truly does deserve to be called "the city of a hundred spires". They're like elegant ballerinas in stone, each one reaching towards the sky, like a delicate tutu lifting a dancer. And then, you see a beautiful building and suddenly feel like you're inside a beautiful theatrical set! The architecture in this city just captivates. It feels like every building has been designed with the graceful lines and flowing beauty of a ballet dancer in mind. Oh darling, Prague is truly captivating!

Tonight’s Ballet at the Estates Theatre – Pink Tutus Take the Stage!

Tonight, my darling, I'm attending a ballet at the Estates Theatre. The Estates Theatre – the Theatre of the Estates, its original Czech name, is a real beauty. The building has a gorgeous Renaissance Revival style architecture. Oh darling, this theatre is simply amazing, it’s as pretty as a ballet dancer, like a gorgeous pastel-coloured, elegant confection. Oh, the anticipation. I have purchased the most perfect blush pink tutu for tonight’s ballet!

But there is so much more to share. Prague is so full of charm, wonder, and ballerina magic! I'll be writing more soon. For now, I must go and practice some pirouettes, prepare myself for the show, and maybe grab some delicious Prague sweets and chocolate – yes, darling, it must be a good day for pink desserts, and pink, well, everything!

Come back next Wednesday, darlings, and I'll fill you in on all the exciting pink moments in Prague. Do let me know about your own tutu adventures and any amazing pink finds in your world!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
