Pink Tutu Prague: Post #897 - A Whirl Through History and a Tutu-ful Evening!

Hello my dearest tutu-loving lovelies! It's Emma here, back from the beautiful, cobbled streets of Prague, and ready to share my latest adventures with you! This week's post, arriving as always on Wednesday, is a real treat. It’s all about my latest travel escapades, historical insights (and tutu insights!), and a spectacular ballet performance that left me starry-eyed (and twirling on air, as per usual!)

The journey itself was a fairytale in itself. As usual, I packed my trusty, pink-hued steamer trunk with an abundance of tutus, as well as some charmingly vintage dresses perfect for wandering through Prague's ancient, romantic streets. The train ride from Derbyshire to the Czech capital was bliss, punctuated by dreamy views of rolling countryside and quiet contemplation (though I admit I was humming 'The Nutcracker' under my breath… it's a force of habit, you know!).

Arriving in Prague was like stepping back in time, and of course, the first order of business was a visit to the exquisite National Theatre. Imagine, ladies, my delight when I discovered that the very first performance at the National Theatre back in 1881 was none other than ‘The Brandenburgers in Bohemia' (with a libretto based on a French fairy tale, of course!). How fitting! It was at this very theatre, amidst gilded walls and grand staircases, that I found my inspiration for this week's tutus!

Speaking of tutus, I couldn't resist popping into the local vintage shop. There, amongst a charming array of antique jewellery and Victorian lace, was a treasure trove of theatrical memorabilia! I snagged a delicate, 1920s tutu, fashioned from the finest lace and a blush-pink satin. It’s the perfect tutu for twirling through Prague’s Old Town Square!

Prague’s Charm – History, Fashion and All That Glitters!

Prague itself was a wonder! The cobbled streets, quaint cafés, and captivating architecture truly captured my imagination. Each turn in the city reveals another story, each building whispers of ancient royalty and the tales of bygone days. Of course, I couldn't leave without indulging in a little local shopping! A boutique called “The Little Bird" sold the most charming dresses and accessories. I left with a gorgeous, lavender-toned, vintage skirt that will go perfectly with my pink ballet slippers (it was fate!).

As a seasoned traveller and seasoned ballerina, I know the secret to a perfect travelling wardrobe. It’s about layering and adaptability! That vintage skirt I bought will go just as well with my everyday essentials as with my go-to pink tutu (because what’s an outfit without a tutu? It just isn't complete, darlings!). You’ll see these two making a dazzling duo in my next photo post. Stay tuned!

And speaking of dazzling duos… let's talk about the main event! My evening concluded with a performance by the Prague National Ballet. On the evening of the 4th of July, they performed the enchanting 'Giselle' in the grand setting of the National Theatre itself.

It was a mesmerising experience. The dancing was exquisite, the costumes were breathtakingly elaborate (all of the ballerina’s tutus, you guessed it, were a heavenly shade of pink! Who would have thought!), and the emotions conveyed through movement were truly captivating. Giselle's sorrow, Albrecht's treachery, the ethereal beauty of the Wilis… it was a feast for the eyes and a treat for the soul!

Dancing the Night Away and Sharing the Love of Tutu!

I could practically feel the history of ballet whispering through the theatre walls. I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of connection to the generations of ballerinas who had graced that same stage before me. As the final curtain fell and the audience erupted in thunderous applause, I felt the joy of shared passion coursing through me. It's moments like this that remind me why I do what I do. Sharing this art form with others, witnessing the magic of ballet ignite hearts and inspire dreams... it's truly what makes it all worthwhile.

From Prague, the city that echoes with the footsteps of countless graceful dancers, I send you all my love, with the sweetest wishes for a tutu-ful week!
