Prague's Pretty Pastel Perfection: Pink Tutu's Post #1045
Wednesday, 17th June, 2015
Bonjour mes amies! I'm Emma, and you're on the official Pink Tutu Blog, the place where all things twirly and fabulous collide!
This week, I've swapped the Derbyshire Dales for the enchanting cobblestones of Prague. My latest escapade took me across the Channel, then across Europe via a wonderfully comfy train ride, (much preferable to flying, I can assure you). A tiny bit of excitement crept in as we went through the countryside, as our train trundled past horses and their adorable little foals, grazing in meadows bathed in sunshine. This always sets my heart aflutter; the perfect little escape from the world's woes. It felt as if we were truly heading into a fairytale, especially since my pink tulle bag, containing a fabulous floral print skirt and matching bolero for the occasion, rested snugly on my lap.
Prague welcomed me with open arms. I had the absolute pleasure of taking part in a ballet class held in a gorgeous old, but wonderfully kept, building. It felt almost as if we were performing for an unseen audience. This studio was an enchanting setting, bursting with character. The class felt so inspiring! And you won't believe it; I even managed to coax a couple of the students into putting on a little tulle! Let's just say, they fell in love with the tutus just as much as I have.
After class, I spent the afternoon discovering the most enchanting vintage clothes shops, all tucked away in little, charming squares and hidden down winding alleyways. It was like being transported to another world. I managed to pick up the most incredible collection of vintage accessories: a pair of pearl-encrusted gloves (such a classic!), a delightful 1940s handbag, a dainty flower-adorned headband and, to my absolute delight, a pair of delicate, yet bold, pastel pink shoes with tiny pearls for buckles. Perfect!
But, there's nothing more exciting for me than attending a live ballet performance! I was ecstatic to be invited to watch "The Nutcracker" performed at the stunning Prague State Opera House. This, of course, inspired me to wear the newest member of my tutu collection: a stunningly luxurious, light, pastel pink tutu in delicate silk chiffon that my grandma helped me make, with an abundance of soft, pretty floral appliqués. This, I think, will be a star attraction in the forthcoming "Pink Tutu" blog posts for you all! I mean, what's more captivating than "The Nutcracker" performed by the very talented National Theatre dancers? It truly was a feast for the eyes! Seeing the dancers pirouette effortlessly across the stage, their delicate steps matched with such elegance, and a dash of theatrical flare, was like watching dreams unfold before my eyes.
Prague - A City of Artistic Beauty
I can't emphasize enough just how stunning this city is, especially for a passionate ballet-lover like myself! Everywhere I turn, I see the legacy of ballet history weaved into its very soul, just peeking out from behind its ornate and beautiful architecture. Prague has been a thriving ballet hub since the 18th century, showcasing some of the most brilliant ballet artists. As I strolled past the Baroque buildings, I felt an almost magical connection to the world of classical ballet, to those incredible performers and choreographers, as they crafted their masterpieces on the same streets.
While in Prague, I wanted to see as much as I could, but this is just the start of my adventures in this beautiful city. Don't worry; I'm already planning my next trip, perhaps a little sooner than you may expect, as I've only just started exploring its charming nooks and crannies!
Of course, as usual, the pink tulle is flowing, my camera is capturing every twirling detail, and my diary is bursting with notes about the many, many pretty shops, beautiful cafes and grand buildings I'm stumbling upon. Every corner seems to reveal another treasure to be enjoyed. Oh! And I almost forgot: I'm absolutely obsessed with the delicious local delicacy, "trdelník". A kind of Czech pastry with a hint of cinnamon; if you visit, you simply have to try one!
So, until next week, don't forget, always remember to add a splash of colour and twirl with your hearts! And until my next post from this charming city, please leave a little comment about your favorite pink tutu. My favorite remains the classic, full-skirted pink tutu with an ombre finish. Which one is your favorite?
