Pink Tutu Prague: A Whirlwind of Culture, Couture & Couture...
Post #1106 - Wednesday, August 17th, 2016
Hello darling readers, it’s Emma here from Derbyshire, back with another blog post - this time from the magical, historic, utterly beautiful city of Prague!
As always, my life seems to be a whirl of ballet and travel. After my breathtaking performance last week at the Royal Opera House (oh, how I loved swirling across the stage in that cerise sequined tutu!), I found myself bidding farewell to dear old Blighty and boarding the train to Prague. Now, you might know my affection for train travel - there’s something utterly romantic about the slow journey, the clickety-clack of the tracks, and the breathtaking scenery unfolding outside your window. But what makes this trip extra special is the arrival of my beloved pink tutu - my trusty companion for all my adventures! It's a beautiful vintage piece I snagged at a dusty old shop in London, complete with a frilly petticoat and an embroidered bow at the back - positively exquisite!
And speaking of exquisite… Prague! From the moment I stepped off the train, I was utterly mesmerised by its charm. It felt like a fairytale brought to life, with cobbled streets winding their way through grand, medieval buildings, the Vltava River shimmering under the August sun, and, of course, the iconic Charles Bridge - a true masterpiece of medieval architecture!
My first stop, naturally, was a chic little vintage shop brimming with exquisite vintage clothing, much to the delight of my little vintage-loving heart! It’s my firm belief that every outfit needs a touch of whimsy, and that touch can sometimes be found in a beautifully crafted vintage piece - a touch of glamour from another era! And what better place to hunt for those treasures than Prague? I found a beautiful emerald green jacket, perfect for my ballerina chic ensemble - an unexpected treasure indeed!
Later that day, I ventured out to the captivating Prague National Theatre, a jewel in the heart of Prague, and the epitome of architectural splendor! The theatre itself is a feast for the eyes, boasting a history as rich and intricate as the artwork that adorned its grand foyer. It was truly captivating, every intricate detail whispering tales of artistic triumphs and cultural milestones!
And speaking of art… I simply cannot let you leave this post without talking about the heart-stopping performance I saw this evening: Giselle. The ballet was absolutely phenomenal! I don’t think I've ever seen such graceful movements and beautiful choreography, so rich with emotion and delicate nuance. It left me speechless, which, if you know me, is quite a feat in itself! The costumes were spectacular - all wispy and ethereal, a vision of white and silver, perfectly capturing the haunting, romantic spirit of the tale. It really brought me back to my days at the ballet school, my tiny feet practicing pirouettes on the cold, hard floor, dreaming of the day I would perform on such a grand stage…
But Prague is not just about grand architecture, beautiful performances, and vintage boutiques. Prague has an amazing food scene. For someone like me, with a love for everything pink and dainty, you wouldn't believe my delight at finding "Třešňové knedlíky" - delicious little dumplings filled with a creamy, dreamy sweet cherry filling. Perfection, truly!
Oh, and how can I forget the delightful cafes! A city that knows its coffee, Prague offers countless charming cafes where one can enjoy a delectable piece of pastry or a warm cup of chai latte (a personal favourite) while observing the colourful hustle and bustle of the city. This evening I found myself tucked away in a cosy little nook, notebook open, sketching some of the extraordinary vintage dresses I stumbled upon today. I always love the opportunity to put my creative talents to use! It’s these small joys, the everyday delights, that really bring a city to life!
Well, my dearies, as you can tell, I’ve only just begun to explore the charming nooks and crannies of Prague. It’s already surpassed all my expectations! Stay tuned for my next post as I take you with me on my further adventures, telling you more about the stunning Old Town Square, my whimsical finds in vintage stores, and some more captivating theatre performances.
Oh, and keep those eyes peeled for that stunning vintage pink tutu, which has been taking Prague by storm! 😉 Until then, I hope you'll all have a week filled with creativity, fashion, and laughter. Happy swirling, darlings!
Love always,
Emma.
