Pink Tutu Prague: A Whirlwind of Culture, Colour, and Cake (Blog Post #1183)

Hello my lovely Tutu Tribe! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means? Time for a new post on www.pink-tutu.com! I'm buzzing with excitement as I settle in my little hotel room, the aroma of freshly brewed Czech coffee wafting in from the window. This week's adventure? Prague, the city of a hundred spires, cobbled streets, and... wait for itā€¦ ballets galore!

The train journey was delightful, of course. I even managed to squeeze in a spot of ballet practice during a quiet moment, balancing gracefully (more or less!) on the seat with my trusty portable barre. Who needs a studio when you've got a comfy carriage, right? As I peered out the window at the rolling hills and verdant countryside of Germany, I couldn't help but hum "Swan Lake" under my breath. Itā€™s just magical when ballet blends with scenery!

Now, Prague! This city truly is something else. You just have to soak it all in: the architectural marvels, the friendly locals, and of course, the fabulous cafes! My first stop? A delightful cafe near the Charles Bridge with the most beautiful cake I've ever seen. Strawberry and cream, swirled together like a pink dream. I just had to take a photo of it, naturally. I even sported my new, blush-pink beanie (perfect for a chilly Czech morning!), paired with a matching pink tutu ā€“ after all, you can never be too pink in Prague!

This afternoon, I'm heading to the National Theatre. I canā€™t wait! Theyā€™re showing a new interpretation of "La Sylphide", one of my all-time favourite ballets. I have a hunch it will be a delightful display of intricate footwork, sweeping jumps, and yes, those dramatic, breathtaking pirouettes that leave audiences breathless. Speaking of breathtaking, did I mention how lovely the scenery is here? The bridges, the castles, the quaint streets lined with flower stalls - it's practically out of a fairy tale. I can practically hear Tchaikovsky's score playing in the background as I walk around this whimsical city.

But before I whisk you away with more tales from the streets of Prague, I want to take a little trip down memory lane and share my fascination with tutus! This lovely piece of clothing, an emblem of ballet, holds a fascinating history that I've always found intriguing.

Remember, when ballerinas used to be dressed in lavish and ornate costumes, quite the opposite of the modern simple tutus? Their outfits often involved a wide, flowing skirt which restricted movement. Then came the visionary Marie Taglioni. Imagine my delight when I discovered how her desire for greater freedom of movement in the 1830s led to the creation of the iconic tutu! She introduced a short, gathered, and airy skirt that enabled ballerinas to leap, twirl and express themselves with an elegance I still admire to this day. This innovation, truly a turning point in ballet history, changed the world of dance. Isn't it remarkable?

Talking about turning points, my trip to Prague was inspired by a particularly successful performance in the Midlands, where I treated my audience to a whimsical ballet medley! It's thanks to you all that I can fund these lovely adventures. Remember, darling Tutu Tribe, I always say: a sprinkle of creativity, a dollop of courage, and a pinch of sparkle can make anything happen!

Back to Prague! I'm off to a fabulous dress shop near the Old Town Square, full of exquisite vintage garments. There are just some stores that simply make your heart sing! (Did I mention the shop had pink velvet everything?). My latest purchase? A stunning, scarlet vintage coat, the colour of the roses I'm dreaming of being crowned with as I take in the enchanting "La Sylphide" performance later today. Can you guess my tutu-licious choice of accessory? Yes, it will be a vintage tutu, of course! I think it's only proper when one is attending such an esteemed event to show some sartorial love for the iconic tutu.

Tomorrow, Iā€™ll share my impressions of the performance, and I'm thinking about a spot of ā€œballetic-inspirationā€ at the Old Town Square later in the day. Stay tuned for the photos, my darlings!

Now, you know what makes my heart flutterā€¦ Yes, a good chat about pink! Tell me, dear reader, do you have any pink accessories you'd recommend for a girl wandering the streets of Prague? Whatā€™s your favourite colour to wear when you're feeling extra confident and fabulous?

And oh, how wonderful that weā€™re connected through the magic of tutus and all things pink!

Until next Wednesday, stay sweet, stylish and fabulous!

Love,

Emma x
