Prague: A Ballet Dream Come True (Post #1207)

Bonjour, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the magical city of Prague! As you know, Wednesday is Pink Tutu day, and today I'm bringing you all the latest from my European ballet adventure. I've just spent a gloriously sunny morning exploring Prague's cobblestone streets in my signature pink tutu, feeling like a fairytale princess in a scene straight out of Swan Lake. 🦢💖

Last week, I bid adieu to the quaint countryside of Derbyshire and hopped aboard a charming little train to Prague. A trip on a train is always a delightful experience, particularly in the gorgeous setting of Europe. I love watching the landscape unfold from my window – the green fields, the bustling cities, and the little villages nestled between. This trip, however, had a particular magical element – I actually traveled by pony for a few hours of the journey. Now, don't picture a dusty trail, think of an elegant carriage pulled by a stunning white horse. We rode through the rolling hills, feeling like characters from a romantic novel!

I knew Prague would be special, but the city is exceeding all my expectations! This old, medieval town oozes with character and history. The cobbled streets, the charming little cafes, the soaring spires, the grand castles, and the majestic architecture – it's absolutely stunning! I feel as though I've stepped into a living, breathing fairy tale!

Speaking of fairy tales, one of the primary reasons I chose Prague was the sheer volume of incredible ballet history here! Did you know Prague is one of the oldest ballet centres in the world, with a history stretching back to the 16th century? I'm itching to delve into Prague's rich ballet heritage, and what better way to do it than to visit the magnificent National Theatre, where ballet performances have graced the stage since 1881.

Now, today’s a very special day – it's ballet day, darlings! And it wouldn't be a ballet trip without attending a performance, so naturally, I've snagged a prime seat at the National Theatre for the legendary Ballet Nacional de Cuba! I simply couldn't resist! Cuban dancers are known for their raw energy, fiery passion, and exceptional skill – I'm absolutely brimming with excitement. Later, I’ll write a full review of the show for you, but I'll just give you a little teaser for now - it promises to be an explosion of beauty and grace! I'm just thrilled to be witnessing such an internationally renowned company in such a magical location. The programme features a medley of famous ballet works - 'La Esmeralda', 'Carmen Suite', 'Tchaikovsky Suite' - pure, unadulterated, heart-pumping ballet magic!

I'm staying in a little boutique hotel with views of the Charles Bridge and a breathtaking terrace – perfect for savoring the delicious pastries from the local patisserie and writing in my journal with a hot chocolate. Of course, every evening, I've been indulging in delightful explorations of Prague’s most captivating spots – each little alley, every grand cathedral, every twinkling lamppost a treasure just waiting to be discovered.

Yesterday, I treated myself to an impromptu fashion photoshoot, naturally! I found a little vintage shop hidden amongst the bustling crowds where I stumbled upon the most stunning turquoise ballgown – think velvet, shimmering embellishments, and layers of ruffles, all tied together with a dazzling ribbon! It felt like I was stepping straight out of a film, and with my pink tutu and sparkling heels, I absolutely knew this was the dress for a ballet-inspired Parisian-style photoshoot! I can't wait to show you all the results in my next post!

Shopping is, of course, one of my absolute favourite things to do on any trip, but it’s even more exciting in Prague! I’m absolutely besotted with the exquisite porcelain dolls, hand-painted silk scarves, and handcrafted Czech crystal that decorate the shop windows – all just waiting for me to take them home with me! And naturally, I couldn't resist adding some more pink tutus to my ever-growing collection – because a ballerina never has enough pink tutus, right?

And oh! Let’s not forget Prague’s amazing street performers! I had the chance to catch an incredible mime show yesterday, where I witnessed pure artistry brought to life using nothing but gestures, expression, and dramatic flair! I've also spotted buskers playing everything from traditional folk music to jazzy tunes, with an energy that captivates every passer-by. I absolutely adore seeing these performances come to life in such a vibrant atmosphere, showcasing a unique talent with raw passion – it's simply beautiful.

One thing that I must absolutely do in Prague is join in with the many workshops and ballet classes that grace this city! This magical place is overflowing with dancing opportunities, and it would be a sin not to! So, tomorrow morning, I’m indulging in a classic ballet lesson with the most charming ballet instructor! You know how I adore trying different styles of dance – from modern and jazz to traditional classical, so I'm sure this will be an experience I won’t forget. I can't wait to share my new dance moves and ballet knowledge with all of you!

And you, my dear readers, have a wonderful Wednesday, enjoy the ballet bliss! Remember, pink tutus bring sunshine and magic to every life! So, spread the joy and go out and put on your favourite tutu, darling, even if it's just to take the rubbish out! And I'll leave you with my top three must-do things in Prague so far:

  1. Get lost in the maze of cobblestone streets, embracing the beauty of this medieval city. You'll find yourself wandering through charming alleyways with historical charm around every corner, leading to hidden courtyards with bustling cafés and a sense of magical wonder.
  2. Enjoy the exquisite culinary treats Prague offers. Forget those bland burgers! Indulge in local delights - flavourful Czech beers, mouth-watering roast pork, creamy potato dumplings, delicious smoked meats, and melt-in-your-mouth desserts. Be sure to order a traditional sweet treat, such as trdelník - a crispy cinnamon roll - for a taste of authentic Prague.
  3. Embrace the romantic atmosphere of this city – every view, every building, every café, every park seems to radiate an undeniable charm! I just feel as though I could fall in love in this magical place, and everyone else here seems to feel it too!

That’s all for this week! Stay tuned for my next post on Wednesday where I'll be bringing you a delicious, Prague-inspired recipe, as well as a full review of the National Ballet of Cuba performance.

Until then, keep those pink tutus twirling, darlings! 💋
