Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballet-tastic Whirlwind (Blog Post #1326)

Wednesday 4th November, 2020

Darling readers!

Hello from Prague! This dazzling city is pulsating with energy, just like the rhythmic thrum of a perfect pirouette. This week, I've been completely enveloped in the magic of the Czech Republic – the architecture, the cobbled streets, the rich history, and, of course, the fabulous ballet! Oh, and I've found the most exquisite pink tutu, darling, the perfect shade for exploring the historical beauty of this captivating city. It's the kind of pink tutu that makes even the greyest cobblestone twinkle!

My journey here was just as charming as Prague itself. It was a picture-perfect, vintage train ride from Derbyshire. I love the quiet rumble of the wheels, the steamy, romantic aura of the train carriages, and the thrill of the vast landscapes that rush by as I sit enthralled in my tutu, enjoying the rhythmic rocking of the train. As we trundled through the countryside, I dreamt of what Prague would be like. A kaleidoscope of pastel hues, a stage set for a fairytale.

Arriving in the heart of Prague, I found myself swept away by the fairytale ambience. The architecture here is pure delight – graceful gothic spires pointing towards the heavens, vibrant pastel-coloured houses bursting with life. I've been flitting from one magical building to another, imagining a world where every window housed a dancer's silhouette practicing an arabesque.

But it wasn't just the enchanting cityscape that captured my heart. Prague is a ballet lover's paradise! My pink tutu, ever-present and perfect for dancing through Prague's winding lanes, became my guide, leading me to some incredible discoveries. I learned that Prague has a rich ballet tradition. Even during its time as the seat of the Holy Roman Empire, dance performances were staged, even during the infamous period of The Thirty Years' War. Imagine – the dancers twirling, their elegant figures shimmering with grace, amidst the tumult and the echoes of cannons. Now, that's a true testament to the resilience of art!

My explorations culminated in a breathtaking ballet performance. The theatre was steeped in a historical grandeur – intricate plasterwork, deep red velvet seats, and the soft hush of an audience about to be transported to a world of magic. The music swirled, captivating my heart, and then the dancers appeared. Oh my goodness! The sheer grace, the precision of their movements, the way they soared through the air, their tutus twirling – it was simply breathtaking. It was almost as if I could feel the stories etched onto the velvet seats themselves, stories of dancing, dreams, and, most importantly, pink tutus!

But before I bore you with all the ballet talk, darling, let me tell you a bit more about my pink tutu and how it has taken over my Prague journey. It's a glorious, vibrant pink, the colour of a summer sunrise. Its layers are voluminous, reminding me of a vintage ballerina's skirt. Its airy grace has already won over the locals. A few curious souls have even asked where I bought it! (My lovely Derbyshire tailor, of course.) It makes me feel a little like a princess dancing through this historic wonderland. It's made even more fabulous by the elegant blush of pink nail polish and sparkling blush that perfectly match my tutu. And naturally, my trusty pink feather boa and pink handbag (also vintage) complement this glorious masterpiece, my pink tutu!

While it’s been hard to tear myself away from the captivating stage, the pink tutu and I haven’t forgotten to explore Prague’s charms beyond the ballet. The architecture here is as mesmerizing as the dancing itself. The Prague Astronomical Clock, an elaborate clock-cum-mechanical marvel that brings a crowd to a standstill every hour, is a true marvel, a symbol of ingenuity that matches the grace of any ballet performance. The grand architecture of Prague Castle, the historical Old Town Square, the enchanting Charles Bridge – they each offered a distinct architectural poetry, echoing a story untold, yet present.

Of course, any trip wouldn't be complete without some exquisite shopping! Prague's shops have a charm of their own. I've discovered quaint boutiques selling the most beautiful vintage clothing – think delicate lace, silk fabrics, and fabulous hats, the perfect addition to any ballet enthusiast's wardrobe. A perfect outfit, in fact, would be an opulent silk dress, perhaps a velvet jacket with the sweetest feather boa and of course, a gloriously pink tutu! Oh, the endless possibilities, darling! I found a delightful shop full of vintage fabrics and delicate lace - a veritable treasure trove for a pink tutu fanatic like myself! Imagine, a ballet outfit, complete with layers of lace, designed by myself, and worn to my next ballet performance! Now wouldn't that be something!

Of course, food in Prague has also been a highlight. Prague has a reputation for excellent cuisine, but I find the street food scene just as delightful. You can find delicious little stalls tucked away on side streets, each offering its own specialty – mouth-watering pastries, fluffy dumplings, and rich goulash – all perfect after a long day of exploring. Of course, the little stalls offer delicious delicacies, and Prague does the tastiest hot chocolate. After a visit to the National Theatre, we sat by the Vltava river, watching the sparkling water. A perfectly frothy hot chocolate was perfect, darling!

As I write this, the sunset is painting the Prague sky with a palette of oranges and reds – a reflection of my pink tutu. And as the twilight descends, I know that this week in Prague will forever be a treasured memory – a dance of elegance, romance, and the pink-hued joy that only a true ballet-lover like me could experience!

Next week, I’ll be embarking on another adventure, a journey that’s bound to be filled with more ballet performances, more pink tutus, and more exciting discoveries. But for now, I bid you adieu! Until next Wednesday, darling, when I'll tell you all about my next journey!

Always twirling in pink,

Emma
