Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballet-Lover's Dream Come True! (Blog Post #1339)

Wednesday, 2nd February 2021

Bonjour, my lovely Tutu Twirlers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad ballet enthusiast, beaming at you from the charming cobbled streets of Prague.

This week, I'm bursting with excitement about my first-ever trip to this fairytale-esque city. It's like stepping into a beautifully painted storybook, full of whimsical architecture, romantic canals, and, most importantly, a vibrant ballet scene that I can't wait to explore!

Remember how I told you about my quest to bring pink tutus to the world? Well, I believe Prague is going to be my newest weapon in this battle.

My journey started in Derbyshire, England. The crisp morning air had a certain bite to it, but nothing could dampen my excitement about this adventure. It wasn't the first time I'd taken a train across Europe - it's actually my favourite way to travel. The swaying rhythm of the tracks seems to seep into my bones and create a little ballet in my heart.

I always pack a tutu, just in case a ballet opportunity presents itself. You never know when a random train journey will inspire impromptu twirls in the aisle, particularly with a fellow tutu lover onboard! Thankfully, no impromptu performances arose on this journey, leaving me with more energy to marvel at the sprawling fields and idyllic towns zipping by the window.

By the time I arrived at the glorious, grand Prague train station, the sun was setting, painting the sky with streaks of pink and orange. I gasped as I caught a glimpse of the iconic Charles Bridge – its towers illuminated against the fading light, a scene straight out of a fairytale.

Finding my charming hotel – a whimsical haven with chandeliers and flower boxes bursting with vibrant blossoms – was pure delight. I flung open the windows, letting the fresh air and sounds of the city wash over me. My little pink heart felt as full and fluttering as a hummingbird’s wings!

The city truly has a unique magic to it. It's a symphony of stunning architecture and art – Baroque cathedrals with glittering spires piercing the sky, fairytale castles on towering hills, colourful medieval streetscapes buzzing with life. There's a fairytale charm around every corner!

But enough about the scenery! What are the Prague Ballet highlights for a pink tutu-obsessed traveller?

  • The Prague National Theatre: This architectural beauty boasts the National Ballet Company – a prestigious company known for its breathtaking performances. Their repertoire features classics like Swan Lake and Giselle, as well as contemporary masterpieces. You bet I'll be experiencing all of them!
  • The State Opera: With its plush red velvet interiors and gilded ceiling, the State Opera transports you to a different time. It offers a chance to see the crème de la crème of Czech and international opera and ballet talent.
  • Dancing Prague: This annual festival celebrating dance and movement brings world-class dancers and performers to Prague every May. It's the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in a world of ballet, from classical performances to modern and experimental pieces.
  • Prague’s Dance Festivals: From classical ballet to modern and contemporary dance, there are numerous festivals showcasing a wide range of styles.

My itinerary for this trip is overflowing with dance! This week, I'll be catching a mesmerizing performance by the National Ballet at the State Opera, a magical performance I can't wait to share with you all.

Speaking of magical performances, what do I always have packed with me for a trip to any ballet city? You guessed it!

My personal collection of tutus, of course! A pink feather boa, sparkling hair clips and a collection of elegant vintage ballet shoes. They’re perfect for taking spontaneous photos amongst the enchanting Prague streets. I already know a few places where the light makes for incredible photo-ops – but let's not give away all my secrets just yet!

Of course, a tutu-obsessed ballerina like myself simply cannot visit Prague without venturing into the world of shopping! From bohemian vintage stores bursting with chic finds to modern boutiques with cutting-edge designs, Prague has something for everyone!

Tomorrow, I'm going to be exploring the enchanting Old Town Square, a vibrant heart of Prague's history, followed by a detour into the beautiful, bohemian Letna Park. I hear that its leafy walkways and stunning views of the city are a true Prague secret! I'm thinking a romantic walk to find the perfect vintage shop where I'll be looking for new tutu inspirations.

Oh, I’ve already found an amazing shop – a veritable paradise for everything pink! Fluffy pink scarves, lacey pink gloves, vintage pink tutus! Let’s just say I had a major wardrobe splurge! But hey, you’re worth it, my fellow tutu-enthusiast. And so are these beautiful pink outfits.

As for you lovely tutu-loving souls back in Derbyshire, keep those tutus twirling and your ballet dreams shining! I’m going to be blogging daily with loads of photos and updates – don’t miss it! See you next Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com

Au revoir from Prague!

Emma, The Pink Tutu Ballerina.
