Pink Tutu Prague: A Ballerina's Whirlwind Tour - Post 1406
Hello my lovely tutu twirlers! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back from another whirlwind adventure. This week, I've landed in the magical city of Prague, a place that has stolen my heart with its stunning architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and of course, a thriving ballet scene!
This week, it’s all about the magical history of the ballet, its elegant choreography and exquisite costumes. Prague really is a city of stories. Oh, and did I mention that it’s beautiful, even with a bit of grey, rain, or fog? Prague really does offer something for everyone - a fabulous mix of history, beauty, music and… tutuland!
As always, you can find my weekly post every Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com - so, if you're feeling a bit inspired for a pink tutu adventure yourself, you’re in the right place. I like to use pink, as the colour is universally considered to be charming, pretty, elegant, sweet and, of course, super girly!
So, grab a cuppa (or a pink prosecco, why not!), snuggle up, and join me on a tutu-tastic adventure. Buckle up, darling! We're off to the land of magical stories and swirling tutus.
A Trip to the Czech RepublicAs a pink tutu loving, ballet besotted girl from Derbyshire, England, Prague was on my list. What a beautiful, unique, magical place to enjoy the beauty of dance. This journey started at the start of May with a wonderful, relaxing train ride - a classic adventure!
It really is important to mention how vital it is for all ballet dancers to have fun, enjoy their lives and stay safe and healthy.
To help finance my little tutu adventures, I give a few ballet performances (usually in parks or by the seaside, where the light and sound are amazing) to earn enough to keep my pink tutu journey alive! For a lucky few, a spot of teaching or some charity performances always help me achieve my mission of promoting pink tutu culture.
I know a few of you are in a similar position - the struggle is real! So, remember, we are all in this together!
A Trip to The Magical World of Ballet and Tutu HistoryAnd speaking of history… what could be better than spending some time in a place that is literally soaked in magic, fairytale and tradition? Prague truly has it all, a unique sense of charm and, dare I say it, a sense of fun!
I took a tour of the magnificent, fairytale Prague Castle which was as magical as I’d hoped and a lovely place to explore, soak in the history, the views and the gorgeous buildings, whilst dreaming of what it must have been like to perform here, centuries ago! The views are breathtaking and inspiring, but of course I was hoping for the chance to visit a few famous historical shops that once sold the famous Czech tutu, to help dancers perform gracefully and enchantingly, and of course with panache, and maybe the possibility of a spot of Tutu history for this pink-tutu loving adventurer.
However, when I made it to the Old Town Square, I saw some extraordinary sights which had to take top priority - I loved the astronomical clock and enjoyed soaking in the history and spectacle of Prague’s iconic monument, complete with the striking and rather wonderful gothic architecture and its charming, detailed art work, I'm happy to report that my love of tutus grew even stronger and I started to daydream about a little, very pink, ballet performance in the Old Town Square one day! I must say I have been feeling so inspired ever since.
It’s quite true, some things, for a ballet girl like me, are a dream, and this place makes the magic and the romance of life truly magical!
On with the Prague ballet adventures!I knew that on my trip, I would get the chance to explore the history of Prague ballet and learn all about how it blossomed to make this unique art form so integral to the character of this gorgeous city.
The National Theatre in Prague, what a beautiful theatre! It had me feeling like a young, budding dancer, back in a charming and iconic, 19th century setting and, at the same time, felt ultra-modern.
Oh! I saw an extraordinary performance that completely captivated me, The Sleeping Beauty. Of course I felt compelled to snap some photos of my favourite ballet shoes and have them alongside some beautiful ballet costumes, all displayed to perfection in the magnificent, and opulent theatre lobby and the magnificent art nouveau style theatre building which simply oozed class and grace. I just have to say it, a perfect choice for a city known for its theatrical past and its incredible performance heritage.
As the story unfolds on the stage, the elegant dancers captivate me with their elegant movements and intricate costumes!
Oh, you simply must see the fabulous ballet outfits they used - simply elegant, feminine and stylish!
And to think that, some of those costumes must have had a magical connection to a bygone era! I just know that in 19th century Bohemia, tutus and fashion had to be the ultimate statement. A ballerina of this period would be incredibly glamorous in a bright, pink, tulle tutu, dancing under the spotlight - just imagine it. It's this image that takes me to the world of pink tulle magic - the essence of my love for ballet.
The costumes are incredible - it's this connection that links me to this extraordinary heritage! So much romance, glamour and theatrical spectacle, so very elegant. And Prague’s beautiful theatre and artistic heritage brought that history to life in a fabulous way.
I couldn’t resist making my way back to Prague’s Old Town to admire some of the fabulous window displays in the chic boutiques I saw during my exploration, just to capture a few shots to keep my fashion blog going!
Oh, what an amazing mix of shops - every imaginable boutique - with its own magical stories of creativity, style and trends and its fabulous stories of couture.
For this trip I bought a truly beautiful, pink floral, bohemian, ruffled dress. You can see it on my Instagram page: PinkTutuEmma - my fashion blog.
Fashion and tutus - The ultimate combination!I had to visit the Dancing House. Oh my, such a striking architectural icon, completely stunning. You see it from miles away! This unusual, artistic space brought the spirit of Prague to life. You feel its unique energy as soon as you arrive, with a magical touch that I could not describe if I tried.
It's just like something straight from my tutu daydreams, a must-see spot for any pink tutu-loving traveller. I must say that this spot inspired a whole bunch of new content for my ballet-themed fashion blog: www.pink-tutu.com - watch out for more ideas there - I'm bursting with ideas!
You simply must visit the Czech Museum of Music in Prague, and maybe take some time to pop into the Dancing House to absorb some fabulous, creative art inspiration - the most stunning place! I felt quite inspired and, of course, felt very, very creative myself, once I’d spent some time watching all those beautiful musicians perform and see their awesome music collection. What a fantastic and inspiring spot to soak in all the sights, sounds, stories, emotions, and of course to experience more tutu-tastic inspiration for my pink tutu website, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube channels - everything's going pink!
Where's my pink tutu, darling? It wouldn’t be a real trip for your favourite pink tutu-loving girl without a ballet performance. On this occasion I treated myself to the ballet extravaganza of the “National Theatre ballet” . This production was captivating and simply sublime!
The magnificent music was simply superb and, for an evening of sophisticated grace and elegance, I think it’s hard to beat the stunning experience of a classical ballet performance at the Prague National Theatre. So many stories and history!
The most beautiful outfits in this production are in beautiful pastel colours - all colours to adore! I think it is worth saying that, Prague National Theatre was a fabulous stage for the National Ballet. Every part of the production really did showcase ballet as an art form - a visual delight that never loses its appeal. A fabulous dance and an incredibly creative performance by the company and the soloists!
Oh, what a dream, an ultimate ballerina dream to be transported to a ballet-themed fairy tale for an unforgettable night out. I fell head over heels for Prague!
I hope you have enjoyed a trip with me, to beautiful Prague.
