Prague: A Whirlwind of Pink and Pirouettes (Blog Post #1420)

Hello darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the heart of Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires! As you know, my darling readers, Wednesdays are dedicated to my travels and my weekly blog, www.pink-tutu.com, and today's adventure is oh-so-special! It's been a while since I’ve ventured outside my usual UK travels, but the allure of Prague was too strong to resist!

Just picturing those cobblestone streets, those fairytale castles, those magnificent bridges - all sprinkled with my favourite colour, pink! And with the opportunity to experience Prague’s vibrant ballet scene, this trip was simply irresistible! And of course, a new city means new tutus!

The Journey Begins: Derbyshire to Prague

The journey, of course, had to be a stylish affair. My new pastel-pink, frilled, polka-dotted suitcase (that, coincidentally, I discovered on a trip to Nottingham just last week) held everything a girl needs for a fashionable escapade – several pairs of pink ballet shoes (essential, darlings!), a handful of twirly tulle tutus, and enough pink lip gloss to last a lifetime.

Leaving my darling home in Derbyshire was always a little bittersweet. But I love to travel by train! There's just something magical about chugging along, watching the landscape blur by, feeling the rhythm of the tracks under my feet – it's almost like an impromptu ballet! This time, though, the train ride took a rather unusual twist!

Adventures on Four Legs

For a good chunk of the journey, I shared a carriage with… a pony! Now, you might be wondering what a pony was doing on a train. It seems there was a horse-themed exhibition at a village station nearby, and the owner had opted to take his steed for a day out, as it was feeling a bit “stagnant”, he explained. He even brought a saddle and bridle! This unusual travel companion, let's call him Prince, made the journey both unique and hilarious. We were both captivated by each other. He was mesmerized by my frilled tulle tutu, and I must confess, his charmingly dishevelled mane, held by a simple blue ribbon, was irresistible.

Prague - A Ballet Lover’s Dream

Prague welcomed me with open arms – or rather, a gentle breeze whispering through the willow trees bordering the beautiful Charles Bridge. A soft melody of a street performer played in the distance, and a young girl, adorned in a vibrant red dress, twirled effortlessly, her long curls flying in the wind. It was like stepping into a ballet performance!

My hotel, nestled amongst cobbled alleyways in the heart of Old Town Square, felt like something out of a storybook. It was pink, of course – a pale, dusky rose, the colour of a blooming garden rose, perfect for dreaming of ballerinas. And it had the most exquisite chandelier hanging in the lobby!

The first order of business was to explore. I had already planned to see several performances – after all, Prague’s ballet scene is renowned for its exquisite elegance and history. But first, it was shopping time! Prague's fashion is eclectic and whimsical – there are so many quirky boutiques hidden away in those quaint, winding alleys. I found some delightful pieces: a pink polka dot fascinator for the theatre, and a pair of sparkling ballet flats to complete my ballet-themed look!

Pink Tutu Ballet Performance: Prague's Ballet Symphony

My biggest highlight in Prague had to be attending the Pink Tutu Ballet. A unique, intimate performance in a charming 19th-century theatre, it brought together classical ballet, modern interpretations, and a little bit of fairytale magic! This one-of-a-kind event, an absolute must-see for any tutu-lover, showcased the exquisite artistry of local and international dancers. It was the perfect balance of elegance and playful passion!

And of course, every performer – male and female, had a beautiful pink tutu for their final performance. Some even wore more than one, transitioning their costumes, like magic!

The Ballet is Just the Beginning...

Prague is not just about ballet – though the ballet is quite magnificent! But you can’t just go to a city like Prague and not see the castle! The Prague Castle is simply breath-taking! I had a beautiful day walking around this UNESCO World Heritage Site – strolling past ornate churches, admiring breathtaking architecture, and just soaking up the enchanting atmosphere. I even picked up a couple of traditional pink porcelain dolls at the ‘Gingerbread Houses’ souvenir stalls – a wonderful souvenir for my home in Derbyshire!

And Prague is a city alive with history, too! The Old Town Square is home to the iconic Astronomical Clock – it chimes, it whirls, it surprises! A magical testament to Prague’s rich past, and just across the street from my favourite cafe for their pink velvet hot chocolate (seriously – try it!)

Prague is a truly beautiful, artistic city. And for a ballet lover like me, there is no place quite like it. It’s so whimsical, so historical, so breathtakingly pretty, it just sparks that spark of pure, unadulterated joy in my heart! And the pink tutu… it just adds another layer of wonder to it all.

And it has me longing to see what the next stage of this magical journey brings! So, until next time, keep twirling, keep smiling, and above all, embrace your inner ballerina. And don’t be afraid to put on a pink tutu!

And darlings, as I love to end my posts, I can’t resist reminding you, pink is more than just a colour, it’s a state of mind, it’s a philosophy of life! So, stay happy, stay twirling, and don’t be afraid to wear a pink tutu to a ballet!

Until next week, lovelies!

Yours twirlingly,

Emma
