It's Emma, your pink tutu-clad travel companion, reporting live from the utterly charming city of Prague! As the saying goes, "A week's too long to be away from your favourite tutu", but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do! And for me, that means chasing my ballet dreams across the globe, tutu in tow, of course!
From Derbyshire to Prague by Pony (Well, Almost!)
This week, my ballet shoes have taken me on a truly whimsical journey. My trusty steed ā actually a rather lovely, albeit slightly slower than usual, train carriage ā carried me across the beautiful landscapes of Europe, leaving Derbyshire's rolling hills behind. Let's be honest, travelling by train isn't as magical as galloping across fields on a white pony (though it would be delightful if it were), but it certainly has its charms! I managed to catch a glimpse of snow-capped mountains as we rumbled through Germany ā it was positively cinematic, you know? The whole experience filled me with so much creative energy, I just had to jot down some ballet choreography for my next performance.
Prague: A City For Tutu-Wearers (and Tutu-Lovers!)
Prague itself is a dream come true! Itās like a fairy tale, honestly. I couldnāt help but twirl my way through the cobbled streets, my pink tutu fluttering with each spin. The medieval architecture is breathtaking ā picture towering cathedrals, graceful bridges spanning the Vltava River, and the iconic Prague Castle, with its dramatic spires reaching for the sky. This place oozes history and romance.
Pink-hued Parisian Fashion
Now, I just can't travel without a little fashion adventure, can I? Luckily, Prague is a shopaholic's paradise! Iāve been spending my time discovering hidden gems amongst the cityās vintage boutiques. You know Iām a fan of all things pink, but Iāve been drawn to bold, contrasting colours and patterns - a real Parisian vibe, but with a little pink twist. Imagine a floral pink dress with a beautiful blue brocade jacket, paired with elegant knee-high boots! I'll be sure to post some of my favourite finds on my social media, keep an eye out!
A Night at the Opera (and a Touch of Tutu History!)
This week, my itinerary took me to Prague's glorious Estates Theatre for a truly unforgettable ballet experience. We are talking true history, darlings! The Estates Theatre is one of Europe's oldest opera houses, a venue steeped in the traditions of opera and ballet. It was here, in 1787, that Mozartās masterpiece āDon Giovanniā received its world premiere. As the opening bars of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake resonated through the theatre, a little shiver ran down my spine. It felt as though time itself had stood still for a few moments.
The performance was sensational! The dancers were exquisite - each pirouette, arabesque, and jetĆ© a feast for the eyes. They wore the most exquisite tutus ā some flowing, billowing with gossamer tulle, others crisp and geometric, like elegant origami. It made me realise, that tutus arenāt just about fashion; they're a testament to the evolution of artistry, blending tradition with innovative designs.
My Pink Tutu Musings: Finding Ballet's Magic in Everyday Moments
Prague has reminded me that ballet isn't just confined to stages or theatres, it's a way of life. Watching a street performer in Old Town Square perform a perfectly timed arabesque penchĆ©, or witnessing the graceful sway of a young couple waltzing across a bridgeā¦ It's like every single moment here holds a tiny, dancing seed waiting to blossom.
To my dear readers, I challenge you this week to find a little bit of ballet magic in your own lives. Maybe a graceful pigeon in the park, or a perfectly synchronized flock of birds taking flightā¦ Whatever you discover, I know it will be as breathtaking as the ballet itself!
