Prague, Prague, Oh Prague! Post 1474: A Tutu-tiful Adventure in the City of a Hundred Spires!

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's your girl, Emma, bringing you another dose of tutu-filled brilliance straight from the heart of Prague! It's Wednesday, and that means another fabulously fabulous fashion blog post just for you, my sweet subscribers. Today, we're diving headfirst into the captivating culture, stunning sights, and enchanting ballet world of Prague!

So, I've just had a fabulously divine week whizzing around Prague - and, wouldn't you know it, I just have to share it all with you lovely lot. This week, my fabulous travels have included everything you could imagine; cobbled streets and pastel houses, delicious cakes and exquisite shopping - even a delightful carriage ride in a beautiful, open-topped carriage through the Old Town Square, pulled by two handsome chestnut ponies!

Of course, no Emma blog post is complete without a proper tutu, so I decided on the perfect choice - a bubblegum pink tutu with layers and layers of shimmering pink tulle. I thought it would be a proper spectacle in all the amazing picture spots Prague has, and oh boy, it was. This magnificent tutu is simply made for twirling, and in amongst all the impressive historical sites in Prague, it just set my heart alight!

Speaking of delightful sites, let me tell you, this city has stolen my heart! From the gothic towers of the Prague Castle and the historic astronomical clock that makes a show every hour, to the stunning views over the Vltava river - everything just feels like stepping straight out of a fairytale.

Fashion Frenzy in Prague

My darling readers, I cannot tell you enough how much I loved the shopping here! Of course, Prague has all the international brands and labels - everything a shopaholic could dream of! But you know I adore all the cute little independent boutiques, the quirky fashion finds, the handmade jewellery, the little stalls on the Old Town Square... This city is full of surprises - just wait until you see what I've found for my latest collection!

A Romantic Dinner and A Little Bit of Ballet

As usual, when I'm away, my travel diary is jam packed full of food, fun and fabulous finds. You know how much I love a romantic dinner - and this week, Prague gave me the most spectacular experience. I dined at a quaint little bistro by the Charles Bridge, the city lights twinkling in the background. Everything felt so very magical - and who could forget the stunning, handmade Czech crystal chandelier glistening above me!

But it wouldn't be a trip for Emma without at least one ballet performance! I just can't help it, lovelies, it's in my blood! This week, I had the pleasure of seeing "The Sleeping Beauty" at the National Theatre, right here in Prague. It was truly something special, you guys! You know how much I love classical ballet, and it was beautifully danced by the National Theatre Ballet company. I had tears in my eyes, my dear ones - it really is the most emotional art form. And oh, how I wish I could twirl just as elegantly as those fabulous dancers!

But enough about my experiences - we've got to talk tutus, right?! Because as all of you know, a trip like this wouldn't be complete without a little tutu exploration.

The History of Prague Tutus - A Dance Through Time!

We've all seen the amazing tutus at the opera and the ballet - and you just know I adore this graceful piece of fashion. They are the embodiment of movement, the lightness of dancing. But where did this piece of iconic ballet wear come from?

Now, a little bit of tutu history for you, lovelies.

Believe it or not, the very first tutu was not the poofy, romantic piece we're all so familiar with today! You see, the tutu's history goes all the way back to the 15th Century - can you imagine?! The earliest version was nothing like we see on stage now. In the court of Catherine de' Medici, it was all about long skirts and lavish garments, but back then the main goal was elegance. And it was the men who first donned the early version of the tutu - called "Le Houppelande" in the 17th Century!

Think about that - tutus have a royal history, lovelies. Imagine a dance floor of long, flowing fabrics and flowing robes, all trimmed with exquisite ribbons and embroidery... I can just imagine how amazing it looked back then!

It wasn't until 1832 that a new tutu evolved! It was a revolutionary piece designed for one of the leading ballerinas of the time, Marie Taglioni. It was created to help showcase the dancer's elegant movement - the graceful curves and shapes of the dancers' legs. The skirts were so short! Just imagine, a ballet performance without the flow of the long skirts! This change really started the modern trend of the ballet tutu.

I've seen some beautiful versions in museums in Paris and Vienna - the incredible details and the stunning creativity! It’s truly remarkable how much the tutu has evolved, and you just know I love it for that!

It’s More than Just a Dress, Darling

The tutu isn't just a garment; it’s an integral part of the magic of ballet, an element that brings the story to life, symbolising the freedom, the elegance, and the artistry that's always been at the heart of the art of ballet. It's a testament to human expression and beauty!
