Pink Tutu Prague: Post 1530 - The Enchanting Elegance of the City of a Hundred Spires 🩰🇨🇿
Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu-wearing ballerina extraordinaire, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be back in Prague, the magical city of a hundred spires. As you all know, I absolutely adore exploring new places, and Prague is a haven for a tutu-loving traveller like myself!
This week's adventures take us right into the heart of Prague's cultural scene – to the glorious ballet performances at the historic National Theatre. As an avid ballerina, I've been dreaming of visiting Prague and seeing its world-renowned ballet since I was a little girl. Finally, after weeks of meticulous planning (and hours spent admiring beautiful tutu-clad dancers in London's Covent Garden!), my dream has become reality!
Let me tell you, dear readers, arriving in Prague by train is pure fairytale magic. The plush red velvet seats, the clatter of the wheels, the breathtaking countryside whizzing past - it's all so utterly romantic! And to add a touch of whimsy, I arrived in my most glamorous pink tutu and feather boa, which caused quite a stir on the platform! 😉 I believe it's important to embrace life's moments with flair and grace - who needs a boring train journey, right?
Now, Prague is absolutely brimming with charming shops and boutiques - my kind of wonderland! I've already discovered a hidden treasure trove of vintage shops near the Charles Bridge where I found the most exquisite velvet coat and a pair of pearl-encrusted ballet shoes. Let me tell you, Prague is an absolute dream for vintage clothing fanatics like me! I’ve got a shopping spree planned for the weekend – with my tutu, of course, because, as always, there's no such thing as overdressing for a city like Prague.
But this trip isn’t all about fashion, darling! This Wednesday, the 2nd of October, I'm treating myself to an exquisite ballet performance at the stunning National Theatre. It's a double bill featuring Giselle, the quintessential romantic ballet, and The Nutcracker, a truly magical performance that always takes me right back to my childhood. The grandeur of the theatre is simply awe-inspiring - the magnificent architecture, the breathtaking chandelier, and of course, the magnificent dancers. It's going to be an absolute feast for the eyes, and my camera will be ready to capture every elegant step!
Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without indulging in a truly magnificent horse-drawn carriage ride! As a passionate lover of ponies (and a huge fan of all things equestrian, you already know that! 🐎), there’s no better way to explore the enchanting streets and cobbled squares than from a gentle horse-drawn carriage. I’ve been practicing my most graceful wave for all the photographers, you know.
I'm absolutely in love with the vibrant, fairytale charm of Prague, and I'm confident you'll all fall under its spell, too! This city breathes a romantic history with a hint of whimsical elegance. And who knows, maybe I'll even manage to convince some locals to embrace their inner ballerina by wearing a tutu with me. After all, it’s a goal of mine to bring joy and elegance to every corner of the globe, one pink tutu at a time!
Until next week, darlings! Don't forget to keep an eye out for new blog posts on www.pink-tutu.com, every Wednesday!
Always be fashionable,
Emma.

Prague: An Enchanting Journey Through TimeTo be completely honest, my initial attraction to Prague stemmed from its incredible beauty, which reminded me of my own hometown, Derby, with its lovely winding streets, cobbled alleyways, and ancient architecture. However, it wasn’t just about beauty. It was the historical allure that truly sparked my fascination with this captivating city. Prague's history is rich and intricate, and walking through its medieval streets and grand squares is like stepping into a time capsule.
My fascination with history extends far beyond Prague, you know. I absolutely adore delving into the fascinating world of ballet history, and of course, learning about the historical roots of my favourite garment, the tutu. Let’s be honest, what else could an ambitious young ballerina obsessed with the elegance of tutus focus her research on?! 😉
Just thinking about tutus evokes such happy thoughts, wouldn't you say? The billowing layers of tulle, the meticulously crafted embellishments, the history behind them - it all fascinates me so deeply.
When I’m exploring a new city like Prague, I always find myself drawn to the local museums and art galleries, and it seems the universe was listening, because this week, I discovered a treasure trove in the Museum of Decorative Arts dedicated to the history of costume and fashion. Talk about serendipity! This museum had a stunning exhibition on ballet costume history, which truly captured my attention. It was a fantastic exploration of the evolution of the tutu through the ages - from its humble beginnings as a simple short skirt to its magnificent transformation into a powerful symbol of dance and elegance.
There I stood, gazing at some of the most exquisite and historical ballet costumes, and my heart skipped a beat, darling! The intricate details, the vibrant colours, and the sheer elegance of those creations. The collection brought to life the stories behind these remarkable designs and illustrated how ballet costume has reflected the changing styles, aesthetics and even political currents throughout history.
In fact, I was completely captivated by the exhibition. My fascination with ballet, history, and the magic of the tutu went through the roof. This trip was certainly giving me all the inspiration and creative sparks a girl could ask for! 💖 It felt so exciting to learn about these fascinating creations - and their evolution throughout history.
I feel like my fascination with tutus comes from somewhere deeper, from my childhood fascination with fairytales and my love of stories. I often picture myself as a delicate and graceful ballerina performing in a world of imagination and dreams, all while twirling in my beautiful, fluffy tutu!
Perhaps I should spend some time delving into the early ballet schools and their influence on the early tutu design, perhaps in my next post?! What do you think?
Stepping onto the Ballet Stage: A Dance Through the AgesI truly believe ballet offers an undeniable form of escapism and a uniquely beautiful expression of emotion. I mean, who hasn't found themselves transported to a realm of wonder by the graceful movements, the enchanting music, and the beautiful stories brought to life through dance?
That said, let's get a little historical, shall we? Ballet history is deeply rooted in the Renaissance, with roots that go all the way back to the courtly dances of the 15th and 16th centuries. This, my darlings, is when ballet truly began its beautiful journey, with elaborate choreographed dances that entertained the court and celebrated grand events!
And you won't believe how significant France was in the early stages of ballet's development! I'm absolutely obsessed with this historical period! It saw the emergence of Louis XIV, known as "Le Roi Soleil" (The Sun King!), who made ballet an integral part of the French Court, leading to the establishment of a formal dance structure with intricate steps and sophisticated costumes.
By the 18th century, ballet took a grand leap into professionalism with the establishment of ballet schools that trained dancers in technical excellence. The emphasis on elegance, precision, and a deep connection with the music became the hallmarks of this evolving dance form, and this era is particularly dear to my heart. This is also when the "tutu" was born, darling! 😉
Imagine it, elegant ladies, with their elaborate gowns and skirts, and suddenly there is this completely innovative way of dressing for dance! This spark of genius transformed the way ballerinas looked on stage, creating the dazzling and ethereal look that continues to captivate us today.
I must confess that as I explore the streets of Prague, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stepped back into a bygone era, surrounded by this captivating sense of history!
Twirling through Prague: A Celebration of Fashion and CultureI've found Prague is the perfect place to showcase my love of fashion and style! Honestly, I think Prague is absolutely bursting with beauty, whether you're discovering the architectural masterpieces of the Charles Bridge, exploring the intricate cobblestone alleys, or finding yourself lost in a delightful boutique. The energy here is impeccably stylish and so much fun!
I absolutely love how Prague blends old-world charm with a contemporary vibe, offering something for everyone. Whether it's finding the most luxurious boutiques on Parízská street or discovering vintage treasures hidden in a secret alleyway, this city just has this undeniable allure.
Naturally, as a devoted tutu aficionado, I couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to take advantage of the unique opportunities Prague has to offer! From discovering vintage clothing gems to picking up new fabrics at the charming stalls along the Charles Bridge, Prague really does have a magical quality when it comes to fashion.
For those of you who don't know, my mission, my absolute goal, is to inspire the world to embrace a touch of elegance and playfulness by wearing a tutu. Every city I visit, I aim to find unique shops that offer fabrics and inspiration for the most stunning tutus, and you'll never believe what I found in Prague!
This time I found myself at a little shop tucked away in a hidden courtyard. As I entered the shop, I was immediately transported into a haven of colourful and textured fabrics! The shop was overflowing with silk, satin, lace, velvet - you name it. I found the most exquisite shades of pink, blush, and champagne! You wouldn’t believe the delicate floral prints, sparkling sequined embellishments and even some beautiful feathers that were perfect for a glamorous ballet performance. Honestly, darlings, this little shop was an absolute treasure! 💖
Of course, I bought a few beautiful fabric scraps, ready to create some dazzling new tutus that will perfectly capture the spirit of Prague and, naturally, share it with all of you in my next blog post.
