Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It’s me, your very own ballet-loving, pink-tutu-wearing fashionista, Emma, coming to you live from the enchanting city of Prague. I know, I know - you're all probably thinking “Emma, Prague? That sounds right up your alley!" Well, you wouldn't be wrong! This beautiful city has been calling to me for ages, with its historic architecture, cobbled streets, and (of course) the iconic National Theatre, home to some of the most exquisite ballet performances in the world.
This week, darling, is all about Tutus! I'm talking swirling tulle, perfectly pleated layers, and the most glorious shades of pink - the colour of my soul! Now, Prague isn’t just about the ballet for me; it's also about the sheer pleasure of wandering through quaint boutiques, discovering unique fashion finds, and treating myself to some delightfully decadent Czech pastries (those strudels, oh my!). And don't even get me started on the delicious coffee!
Let me tell you, Prague truly embraces the artistry of ballet. The National Theatre’s history is deeply woven with the performance of the dance. I actually discovered, while reading my ballet history books in my quaint little Derbyshire cottage, that the theatre was founded back in 1881 with a grand ballet production that sent waves of excitement throughout Europe! Isn’t that divine? The Theatre even had a lovely period of opulent restoration in the 20th century and I have to tell you, its intricate gilded detailing makes me feel as though I’ve travelled back to the most magical of times! It’s almost enough to make a girl weep (almost!)!
Of course, when you think ballet in Prague, one name springs immediately to mind: the Czech National Ballet. They have such an incredible history, with generations of talent building upon a legacy of superb performance. I had the sheer delight of seeing their most recent production - the majestic Sleeping Beauty last night! Now, let me tell you, it was nothing short of an exquisite ballet experience! The costumes - I’ve never seen so much pink! The choreography, an absolute dream. The dancers were simply incredible! I spent half the show weeping with sheer joy (but no tears on my pink mascara - promise!), and the other half scribbling notes in my tiny notebook!
Today, darling, I’m taking a stroll around the old town - such a romantic walk! And then it’s on to the National Theatre again, for their annual "Tutus Through Time" exhibition. They have the most fantastic collection of original costumes dating all the way back to the 19th century, showcasing the changing styles and artistry throughout the ages. Imagine - real tulle and lace, just begging to be admired! It’s enough to send a girl’s heart soaring! They even have a few tutu reconstructions based on those of the early Czech dancers - something you don't often find! I’ll definitely be snapping photos galore and maybe even posting some stories for those of you following along on my Instagram - @EmmaPinkTutu.
Speaking of history, dear reader, do you know why pink tutus are the most iconic of them all? It all comes down to tradition! Did you know that pink was initially associated with the graceful movements of ballet and that, even centuries ago, it represented innocence, youthfulness, and beauty - all qualities that make up a perfect ballerina! It even made its way onto the stage, becoming synonymous with ballet dancers and the very heart of the genre, in those first early ballet schools of Paris and even made its way onto the elegant stage of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden! How marvelous! I feel quite proud to be upholding that history, don't you think? You’ll see me prancing around Prague, a bright splash of pink in the grand old city! I can’t promise I won’t attract attention with my flamboyant pink ensembles, but after all, life’s too short to blend in, darling!
I do want to share a few style tips with you! Prague has this magical way of drawing inspiration from different historical eras, and there’s definitely a whimsical flair that translates so beautifully to ballet. So, why not experiment? Pair a classic pink tutu with a bohemian blouse for a modern twist on timeless elegance, or perhaps add a chunky knit cardigan for that perfect touch of Parisian chic. Don't forget those fabulous ballet flats – I love the way they play with textures and colors!
And the best thing, darlings? Prague is as walkable as can be! I’ve been taking the lovely little horse-drawn carriages! It's quite the magical way to explore, and so charming! The horses even seem to like a little pink too! It's an excellent alternative for getting around without compromising the feminine fashion. Speaking of getting around, let’s talk travel. My journey was so romantic! It all began on a grand, steamy train carriage back in dear old Derbyshire, a most magical carriage indeed. I took a trip on the historic 'Golden Express', the ultimate in glamour! All dark wood panels and plush seating! They even have delicious pastries onboard!
However, don’t forget my ballet performance fund. All those delicious meals, those darling boutiques, that magical trip to the theatre! Don’t fret, darling, my love for the stage is truly unyielding. I do a lot of private performances! I often play for elegant charity balls, fundraising galas for museums and art galleries - you’d be amazed what you can achieve when a ballet performance goes hand-in-hand with a pink tutu and a beautiful melody!
Don't be a stranger, darlings. Make sure you're following along on Pink-Tutu.com for the latest fashion inspiration, travel tips and maybe a glimpse of Prague! And remember, it’s never too late to rock your own pink tutu, and share a little ballerina magic with the world. Until next week, keep it fabulous! 🩰💖
