Bonjour, my dearest tutu-loving readers! I'm Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, writing to you from the heart of Prague, a city brimming with cobblestones, stunning architecture, and enough historical intrigue to send any tutu twirling into a spin!
This week marks the culmination of my grand European train adventure. Yes, you heard that right! I arrived here in Prague by train, all 1300 km from Derbyshire, after my enchanting sojourn in Berlin. And just to make it a little extra exciting, I decided to add a touch of equestrian elegance to my travel plans - I took a horse-drawn carriage from the station to my hotel! A perfect way to truly absorb the charm of this magnificent city.
The moment I stepped into the grand foyer of my hotel, the old world magic of Prague began to enchant me. The high ceilings, adorned with intricate murals, whispered tales of grand balls and waltz-filled nights. A crystal chandelier sparkled like a thousand twinkling stars, casting a luminous glow across the opulent room. Oh, to imagine all the glamorous ladies who’ve graced this very spot in their magnificent gowns! My inner tutu-loving historian was in utter heaven.
But of course, Prague isn't just about historic grandeur. The streets are vibrant, alive with laughter, street musicians, and bustling markets filled with Czech delights. It’s the perfect place to hunt for hidden treasures for my wardrobe - and let me tell you, the vintage clothing scene here is simply divine!
Now, let's talk about my favourite part of this week’s Prague escapades: The Ballet! This is a special occasion – The Pink Tutu Prague Ballet, a world-renowned ballet company is performing Swan Lake on Tuesday, and I'm beyond excited to see it!
For those who don't know, "Swan Lake" is one of the most celebrated ballets in the world. The story, with its haunting tale of love, betrayal, and transformation, has captured audiences for generations. The original choreography by Marius Petipa (yes, he of tutu fame! A very important name in ballet history!) was groundbreaking in its day, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in ballet technique.
I’m still bubbling with excitement for the show - I have a feeling I’m going to be speechless, mesmerized by the sheer grace and skill of these phenomenal dancers. And, of course, I’ll be looking out for those beautiful white tutus - always a spectacle to behold!
My trip wouldn’t be complete without exploring the rich history of dance in Prague. After the show, I plan to visit the National Theatre, one of the most iconic buildings in the city and the centre of Prague’s artistic heritage. Imagine all the legendary ballerinas who've graced those stages! It's hard to believe I'll be walking the same corridors as some of the biggest names in ballet history.
Speaking of history, did you know that ballet has deep roots in Czech history? Ballet arrived in Bohemia, which is now part of the Czech Republic, in the 16th century, brought over by the Habsburg monarchs. Over time, Czech ballet developed its own unique style and flavour, marked by an emphasis on artistry and emotion. I’m absolutely smitten with it!
My quest to inspire everyone to wear a pink tutu extends beyond London’s streets, my dear readers. I’ve already spotted a couple of charming ladies rocking their own pink tutus around Prague! They even gave me the best recommendations for the best “Tutu Shops” to buy some vintage tutus. I plan to dedicate a whole post to the most spectacular finds, because darling, a girl can never have too many tutus, right?!
While I love a good Tutu Shopping Spree, let’s not forget the amazing fashion scene in Prague. The bohemian spirit of this city is woven into every aspect of style - from vintage fashion to designer boutiques, Prague has it all! I've found myself drawn to the colours and textures found in local designers - intricate beading, bold prints, and a whimsical air that reminds me of those Parisian flea markets I love so much!
I have so much to tell you about all the delightful sights, sounds, and smells of this magnificent city. But for now, my dears, I must say au revoir and wish you all the happiest of twirls!
