Prague, Darling! My Tutu Travels, Post 1646 ??

Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, so that means another fabulous week of Pink Tutu Prague for you! Grab your fanciest pink lipstick and settle in, because we're off on an adventure, a ballet-tastic, tutu-filled, fairytale journey to… Prague! ✨

This magnificent city, steeped in history and romance, just oozes magic. Think cobblestone streets, twinkling lights, gothic architecture that whispers stories of forgotten queens and kings, and… (you guessed it!) breathtaking ballet.

It's a tutu-tastic wonderland for a girl like me! And I'm already on my way, aboard the Orient Express – a dreamy train journey that transports you straight back to a time of glamorous grand dames and dapper gentlemen.

From Derbyshire to Prague!

It seems a world away from my little cottage in Derbyshire, surrounded by rolling hills and the scent of freshly baked scones. But then, my journey wouldn't be complete without the Pink Tutu Train – my custom-made carriage, of course. Covered in blush pink velvet, with ballet slippers embossed on every window pane, it's the epitome of my whimsical, fabulous style.

My darling, you should have seen the stares! (They all want to be me, I can tell.) I even have a darling pony called 'Tutu' who travels with me, perfectly outfitted in a miniature, velvet pink riding hat.

Let’s talk Prague – Tutu Style

This is a city of castles and bridges, of ancient secrets and bustling markets, of enchanting tales woven into every cobbled street. As soon as I arrive, I’ll be waltzing into a whirl of fashion!

I’m already dreaming of finding the perfect antique brooch for my new blush pink ballgown – a masterpiece I plan to debut at the opera! Speaking of ballgowns, Prague has some of the most delightful shops. I'm on the lookout for exquisitely-embroidered velvet fabric and the perfect pair of ballet flats with a touch of je ne sais quoi to complete my Parisian chic.

Of course, no trip to Prague would be complete without a trip to the legendary Tutu Emporium. You see, darlings, Prague holds a special place in the heart of every tutu lover, as it's considered the "Birthplace of the Tutu!" Legend says a dancer named Anna (whose surname remains a mystery!) invented the very first tulle skirt here – oh, how the world would be different without this magnificent invention!

But back to me and the Pink Tutu!

My schedule is jam-packed! This week, I’ll be immersing myself in the world of Prague ballet – the history, the current performances, even the history of the tutus! Imagine, a Pink Tutu History Tour, darlings, just for you! I’ve already secured tickets to a performance of "Swan Lake" – nothing quite beats the emotion and beauty of that classic. It’s ballet at its finest, with tutus twirling with every pirouette and every pas de deux.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a real Pink Tutu Prague trip without some ballet class! (Oh, my darling, my limbs feel like they need a good stretch already!) The National Theatre Ballet School here is world-renowned, with students who've clearly had a spoonful of magic in their morning tea! I’ll be sharing the experience with you all, of course, complete with pictures and behind-the-scenes tidbits. I even found the most charming café nearby, The Pink Swan. Can you even? The perfect place for a pre-class latte! ☕

And that's not all, darling! I have so much planned. Imagine… strolling across the Charles Bridge, its beauty reflected in the Vltava River, with my trusty tutu swirling around me like a ballerina’s dream. Oh, and how could I forget a night at the Tivoli Opera House, indulging in opulent architecture, sparkling chandeliers, and an evening of stunning opera performances. This, darlings, is life lived to the fullest!

The Beauty of Sharing the Pink Tutu World

The whole idea behind Pink Tutu Prague, you see, isn’t just about my adventures (although they are fabulously fun). It’s about sharing my passion – a love of ballet, tutus, the enchantment of a beautiful city. But it’s also about inspiration – a reminder to embrace your individuality and dance to the rhythm of your own heart. It’s about the magic of pink tutus, about embracing life’s beauty, and about a touch of whimsy sprinkled over every single day.

Remember, darling, you can wear your own pink tutu anywhere, even just to the corner shop! My goal is for the world to be awash in pink tutus, with everyone celebrating their unique charm and their own special flair! It’s time for everyone to be a bit more fabulous, wouldn't you say?

So, stay tuned, my darlings, and get ready for another week of pink tutus, ballet magic, and Prague charm. It's going to be a wonderful week of fun, laughter, and, of course, a sprinkle of pink! ?

XOXO, Emma

(Now, let’s get a little deeper into Prague’s Ballet History…)

It's no secret that Prague has a rich ballet history! The first ballet performance was in the 15th century, so it’s safe to say it’s a long-standing ballet-loving tradition! For centuries, Prague witnessed magnificent royal ballets. King Rudolph II, an absolute monarch who reigned from 1576 to 1611, played a vital role in establishing ballet at court.

While a certain “Anna” may be a mythical figure (sorry to break your heart!) we can pinpoint a definitive turning point in Prague's ballet scene, and the story of the tutu itself. This moment arose with the 19th-century “Ballet Prague”, when a true sense of artistic collaboration grew, bringing in famed choreographers and musicians, further developing the ballet aesthetic. It was then that the tutu truly made its impact.

The story of Anna, the first tutu-maker (maybe!)

Let’s rewind back to that legend for a moment, the tale of a young dancer named Anna (with an unnamed surname, sadly!). We imagine her a whimsical sprite with dreams of waltzing under crystal chandeliers. She believed, however, that ballet costumes restricted the movement of the dancers. To this, we must raise our champagne glasses!

There's so much joy to be found in the story of how she started with the most simple fabric of all – tulle. She designed this short, gauzy skirt (likely a modified variation of the contemporary “tutu,” if it wasn’t exactly it). This was an invention that gave ballerinas the freedom of motion they craved! The light and airy tulle floated beautifully, and gave her the freedom to create the beautiful dancing figures, arabesques, and jumps that ballet is famous for.

Even though we can’t verify if she was a real person, what we can know is that Prague’s role in ballet is beyond enchanting! It's no wonder this city is my home away from home – so full of history and ballet magic!
