Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, and I’m back from a whirlwind trip to the absolutely breathtaking Prague! As a self-proclaimed Tutu Princess, there's no better city in the world to lose yourself in than Prague, a city with fairytale architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and a vibrant cultural scene - it’s practically made for a ballet enthusiast like myself!
This week’s blog post is coming to you from my delightful little pink-tutu-laden suitcase, and I am absolutely bursting with excitement to share my experiences with you all! After all, sharing my love of ballet, travel, and of course, the perfect pink tutu, is what keeps this little pink-tutu-clad dream alive.
From Derbyshire to Prague: A Whirlwind Train Journey
My journey began at the bustling station in Derby. You wouldn’t believe the number of envious stares I received as I hopped on the train in my fabulous pink tutu! It’s all about embracing your inner ballerina wherever you go, right? I’m all about travelling in style and I always try to bring a touch of my personal style into everything I do, so, of course, I had my trusty pink travel tutu on for the ride to Prague!
As I journeyed through the rolling hills and quaint villages of Europe, my imagination ran wild with thoughts of ballet and all things pink! The world seemed to blend seamlessly into a romantic and elegant dream as the scenery rolled past my window. The rhythm of the train wheels echoed a soft, melodious ballet as I enjoyed the view from my window - It truly was a ballerinas dream, especially since my fellow passengers on this little adventure had to look out from their seats at the sight of the pink tutu dancing up the train aisle, the ever-so-slightly ridiculous train carriage ballet I spontaneously put on.
Prague: A Fairytale City
Upon arrival in Prague, my jaw dropped! This magical city seemed to have sprung straight out of a fairytale book. The medieval architecture with its pastel coloured houses, graceful spires, and bridges over the Vltava River were all stunning!
The very first thing I did after a swift visit to my pink-tutu-worthy hotel, of course, was visit the Charles Bridge. This historical gem with its iconic statues seemed to vibrate with stories of the past and whispers of ancient ballet. It’s certainly one of Prague’s must-see sites and a photographer’s dream!
Of course, a tutu clad adventure requires some pink attire! You might be thinking ‘Tutu? Prague? In March?’ And the answer is an unequivocal YES. No place is unsuitable for a ballerina with the right accessories and layers and yes, darling, even a good pair of knee high pink boots and my new (and absolutely beautiful) cashmere pink coat did wonders! The shops here have everything to fulfill your dreams - particularly those of the tutu kind, because oh, how I wanted every single tulle and sequined dress I saw!
Prague is also home to the National Theatre and many other theatres, each holding the stage for incredible ballet performances. I’m absolutely in my element here - not to mention I had my eye on one particular beautiful pink tutu (from the fabulous boutique of Mrs Zilla, in case you’re looking for me!), just waiting for me! I certainly couldn’t leave without it!
The Magic of Ballet in Prague
And then there was the Ballet, oh the glorious, breath-taking, tutu-tastic ballet. The first performance I attended was a mesmerising production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. It felt as though I was transported to another realm; I sat in my own little pink tutu bubble and was lost in the world of the dancers’ elegant moves, delicate tutus, and passionate emotions!
You know I can’t resist a good dance myself, so naturally, I had to join a ballet class! After a little searching, I found a beautiful dance studio in the heart of Old Town - The Prague Dance Centre! Imagine my delight when the dance studio had its own private dressing room complete with an impressive mirror and dressing table where I could showcase my finest ballet attire!
Oh, but don’t you just adore this pink tutu and the cute little ballet shoes! I got them for an absolute steal at the wonderful local market - I can never resist a good bargain when it comes to my ballet wardrobe, my darlings! And don’t forget about the vintage book of Ballet history that I found! Now, my tutu has a touch of Prague magic to it!
Prague Through the Lens of Pink
This amazing city is alive with magic, history, and a certain ethereal charm that captures the spirit of a true tutu enthusiast like myself. Every cobblestone street, every ancient bridge, every vibrant café, every elegant boutique - it all seemed to sing a delightful, pink-tinged ballet song!
I have a special thing for finding those ‘only I could see’ photo opportunities and I couldn’t wait to show the world Prague’s beauty, the magic and how to find those perfect photo spots, in true Tutu fashion. Imagine the perfect blend of modern day, tutu and the romance of a cobblestone European street, the possibilities for the perfect photo op were endless. I’ve done a small shoot here just to share it with all of you - there’s a wonderful small park near the bridge which is my personal favourite photo-spot. Here are a couple of my favourites:
Tutu Tips for Prague:
If you’re planning a trip to Prague (and you really should!), here are a few Tutu Tips from this Pink Tutu Princess:
Bring your pinkest tutu: There's no such thing as being "too pink" in Prague, darling! Embrace the fairytale charm and let your inner tutu shine!
Embrace the cobblestones: You might have to wear your ballet shoes on your own shoes when walking, because cobblestones are the ultimate ballet dancer's secret weapon.
Indulge in a Pink Latte: This is my signature travel order! I love a latte and of course a bright pink colour makes me even happier. You'll find plenty of charming cafes serving delicious, pink delights.
Seek out Ballet Performances: This city truly lives and breathes ballet! If you are anything like me, be sure to see a show or two!
Take a Dance Class: Learn a few new steps, or just have fun at a local ballet class.
Shop for vintage tutus: One of my favourite finds in Prague was this exquisite vintage tutu - oh, so fabulous!
My Pink Tutu Verdict
Prague, I simply adore you! You are truly a fairytale come to life! It’s a must-visit destination for any ballerina at heart and it has already earned a place on my 'most favourite city in the world' list. The beauty of the city is so evocative, just imagine it all bathed in the soft pink hues of dawn as the city begins its day and every beautiful corner makes me smile and think about all the ballet moves I can use to show you its amazing spirit.
If you need some tutu inspiration to embrace your inner ballet goddess or if you are seeking a destination to travel to, do make sure to visit Prague. I’m already planning my next trip here (don't worry, it won't be too long!). And for my lovely readers, let me know your favourite pink tutu looks for your next big trip to a big city.
Until next time, darlings!
