#PinkTutuPrague Ballet in Prague 2027-08-04

Hello, my darling Tutu-Lovers! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip, this time to the beautiful, enchanting city of Prague. The city of a hundred spires, a thousand cobblestone streets, and...drum roll please... the most adorable little pony-drawn carriage I have ever seen!

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! My weekly Pink Tutu Prague blog post is ready to bring some sparkle to your day. This week, I'm sharing my latest adventures, featuring everything from dreamy ballet performances to discovering the history of the iconic tutu and…of course, some shopping for the perfect pink wardrobe.

As you know, I’ve been absolutely living my dream these past few years – performing, traveling, and sharing my love for the beautiful world of ballet. It's a life I never would have imagined for myself, you know, growing up in the quiet village of Buxton in Derbyshire. But I’m living it!

And how do I manage it all? Through the magic of dancing, darling! Performing in ballets large and small, fundraisers, street performances, even that flashmob we did at the Victoria Shopping Centre – you’ve all helped me see my dream come true. Each performance gets me one step closer to reaching my true goal – to see the world wearing pink tutus. It's my personal mission to turn the whole planet pink, one tulle skirt at a time!

Prague is a city where even the streets seem to have a ballet of their own. It’s just impossible to not twirl, my loves. So many beautiful historical buildings, cobblestones calling for a skip…you know I couldn’t resist picking up the most adorable pair of dancing shoes in a vintage store on Old Town Square, perfect for strutting my stuff through the picturesque streets!

This week’s big event was the Prague Ballet's performance of "Giselle" at the beautiful National Theatre. And I have to say, this production was just breathtaking!

Firstly, the setting. The National Theatre is stunning – all plush velvet, ornate carvings, and incredible stained glass windows. The whole place radiated elegance. Then, the dancing – pure magic! The way the dancers told the story with their movements was captivating, and their jumps, pirouettes…you simply had to see it to believe it! The haunting music, the flickering candlelight, the atmosphere…the whole experience had me absolutely captivated, not just as a ballet lover, but also as a hopeless romantic.

Did you know the tutu actually plays a crucial role in this ballet? You see, Giselle is a village maiden in the romantic ballet. For a tragic backstory, we've got a jealous prince, love gone wrong, and her turning into a spirit. When the tragic part of the ballet starts, the graceful tutu of Giselle starts changing as she does, adding to the beautiful symbolism.

So, in honor of Giselle, I donned a lovely shade of ballet-pink tulle for the performance. The National Theatre just has a vibe that calls for elegance and that hint of fairytale magic. The other audience members gave me a lovely few "bows" as they passed me, and a few were wearing the classic black tutus, too! It’s inspiring to see so many dancers taking part, not just in ballet, but in this spirit of community.

The theatre experience had me wanting more, more, more – the kind of desire that compels you to twirl, so, naturally, I headed straight to the city’s bustling ballet studios. Ballet classes are everywhere, even at 9 am in the morning!

But Prague’s magic doesn’t stop at its contemporary dance scene, darling! This city just oozes history and creativity, especially when it comes to dance. You just know I had to get my fill of tutu history in a city this beautiful, wouldn't you agree?

The Prague State Opera House - a glorious, historic building – has an extraordinary collection of antique dance costumes, including some spectacular tutus. It's no surprise, since Czech ballet has such a rich history, even dating back to the 17th century. That is where I first discovered the origins of the tutu. The very first "tutu" was simply a shorter dress called a "tutu-ballet" that originated with the French dance teacher Carlo Blasis.

During my exploration of this treasure trove, I couldn’t resist trying on a gorgeous, emerald-green satin tutu with lace trim from the 1800s. I envisioned myself performing a romantic ballet on a grand stage under the shimmering lights. Of course, it wasn't practical, but just try to stop a girl dreaming, right? I even took a selfie, it's up on Instagram if you’re quick enough!

Speaking of instagrammable spots… have you been to the famous Charles Bridge? I had to photograph the most incredible tutu-themed street performer. It was all a perfect shade of blush pink and just reminded me how much I love street dance. You wouldn’t believe how much time I spent chatting with him about how he’s keeping the tutu tradition alive. There’s just so much passion out there!

Now, let’s be real. A girl can't come to Prague without experiencing its incredible shopping scene. Even I can’t live by the tutu alone, my darlings, although I did manage to pick up another sparkly, pale-pink tutu on my shopping trip, the colour of champagne bubbles! The fabric is like liquid moonlight and it's just perfect for my next performance!

But my trip wasn't all about tutus (although it very nearly was!). You see, Prague is like a fairytale. Every corner I turned, there were delightful little boutiques with the most beautiful and feminine clothing – think dreamy lace dresses, intricate embroidered blouses, and a colour palette just begging to be twirled in!

I fell in love with a whimsical, embroidered dress, perfect for a stroll through the historic streets. And then, on another whim, I discovered a tiny vintage shop in the backstreets of the Old Town. It was like a magical time machine, filled with treasures from another era: lace gloves, ornate earrings, and silk scarves in a spectrum of colors that would make a rainbow jealous.

The store owner, a kind old woman named Viera, shared stories of fashion from times gone by, inspiring me to really step outside of the box with my own pink tutu creations. Her story reminds me that the best moments come from embracing unexpected detours and keeping a sense of adventure – the true magic of travel.

Of course, no shopping trip is complete without a pit stop for delicious pastries and a cup of strong Czech coffee. And let’s not forget those delightful Czech pastries – sweet and melt-in-your-mouth! As the sun started to set, I couldn’t help but wonder how my love of ballet would shape the rest of my journey, both here in Prague and back home in Derbyshire.

You know, there's something powerful about the pink tutu. It’s a symbol of hope, joy, and the pure, unadulterated spirit of ballet. Every time I don one, I feel a little bit lighter, a little bit more confident. I feel empowered to take on anything, to twirl my way through challenges and inspire others to find their own dance, whatever that might be.

As I boarded the train back home to Buxton, my mind buzzing with the magic of Prague, I knew this trip had more than just fueled my fashion inspiration. This journey has reinforced the message that ballet, travel, and adventure are interconnected – a powerful reminder that my passion for dance and its beautiful community extends beyond just my hometown.
