Bonjour mes chères ballerinas! It’s Emma here, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be back with you all for this week’s Pink Tutu Prague adventure. Today marks a particularly exciting day, because, well, just look at the date on this post! It’s the day I’m seeing the Ballet Nacional de Cuba at the National Theatre. I’ve heard wonderful things about them - apparently they’ve been described as 'haunting and graceful', 'powerful yet delicate'. Ooh, I do love a good descriptive! The best thing about ballet is that it can evoke so many feelings, it really is the most expressive art form. Anyway, enough of the pre-show rambling from me, it’s time for this week's Pink Tutu Prague post!
This week's Prague itinerary has been jam-packed with girly delights, pink explorations, and of course, more than a little bit of ballet! From the charming streets of the Old Town to the decadent shopping boulevards, Prague has been a feast for the senses and, most importantly, the eyes. Let’s be honest, sometimes we all just need a little escape, and I think I can safely say that Prague is the ultimate escape for any ballerina who appreciates stunning architecture, delicious food, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped straight into a fairytale!
The Pink-hued History of Prague
We kicked off the week in style, darling. After hopping off the Eurostar and straight onto a tram into the heart of Prague (did I tell you I love travelling by train? It’s so glamorous!) we settled into a charming little hotel overlooking the Charles Bridge. Yes, yes, I know, a little cliché perhaps, but how could I resist such a stunning vista? Every time I looked out the window, it was as though I’d stepped straight onto a stage, ready to dance my way into a scene. Of course, I'm never one to just stand and stare. I always find it so much more engaging to be involved, don’t you think? So, after a quick change (my darling, pink, floral embroidered skirt was calling my name!), we set off to explore the old town, soaking in the rich history of the place. It's quite unbelievable that a city so full of stunning architecture was nearly obliterated in the 15th century. The devastating events during the Hussite Wars nearly eradicated Prague’s beauty but miraculously the heart of the city - Old Town Square, was spared. It’s been through a lot and I can see its resilience just by looking at it. I mean, you know me, I'm drawn to strong, graceful, feminine energy wherever I go, but sometimes even that strong energy needs a little help! So, to truly embody that pink, bubbly, feminine power that's Prague’s trademark, we headed straight to the Pink House. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a stunning Art Nouveau building, its delicate façade beautifully decorated with playful floral motifs, like a tutu woven from stone. Ahem.
* Ballet Beauty in Prague: Ballet, Shopping and a Touch of Magic*
But, enough of the historic musings - we've got a ballet to see! A girl’s gotta make time for a spot of pre-ballet shopping and you’d be surprised how easily you can blend a good shop with some architectural wonders. Prague’s Parizska Street - or “Parisian Street”, as we would call it - is simply divine! So, after a morning exploring Old Town, we made our way down Parizska Street, window shopping with a smile as big as my tulle skirt, of course! From vintage boutiques to high-end designers, there were treasures everywhere. It was a true delight, and you can imagine what a thrill it was to see so many fashionistas with their tutus out, embracing the graceful, feminine side of Prague. Of course, as much as I loved gazing upon all the pink and fluffy tulle on offer, my pink heart was yearning for the ballet.
I couldn’t be more excited about tonight’s ballet! It's one of my all-time favourite things to do on a trip. So, of course, I decided to go all out in a perfectly pink and ruffled outfit (did you see the photo on Instagram? I know it's so cliché to mention a photo from Insta on your blog, but you guys are my little angels! Thank you all for being so sweet!). I’m always happy to embrace a little bit of theatre in any city I visit - and there's just something special about the combination of dance, fashion, and beautiful theatre stages. The National Theatre itself, darling, is an absolute dream! Think rich red velvet seats, glittering chandeliers, and a stage just begging for the beautiful artistry of dance. And I know I am a ballerina, and probably sound a little biased, but trust me, there is truly magic in every performance. That's why I work so hard to ensure every show I go to, be it ballet, street dance, contemporary, or a theatrical performance, is the perfect mix of fashion and fun, grace and beauty.
* A Pink Pony Ride for the Soul: A Romantic Interlude*
Prague wouldn't be Prague without its magical architecture and cobblestone streets. It’s as if the history of the place is imprinted on the stones, every little crevice a story waiting to be uncovered. As it’s a little too far to wear my pink tutus around all day and it’s getting chilly at night, we hopped on a lovely pony carriage to experience the magic of this city from a new perspective. The charming, old world-style carriages were all dressed in beautiful, polished wood, as though made of mahogany and romance. Oh my, darling, this city really knows how to take you on a magical journey. A slow, leisurely trot along the bank of the Vltava river - with all the gorgeous Prague castles, old churches and the dramatic Charles Bridge framing the landscape made me feel as though I'd stepped straight into a fairytales!
You really do get to feel the heart of Prague in a pony carriage ride. We just felt so relaxed as the horses clumped and clip-clopped through the historic city. It was so much fun watching the city’s characters pass us by. But perhaps the highlight was being offered a bouquet of lavender from a local artisan when we stopped for a quick chat and a picture at one of Prague's beautiful river bridges! What a way to start the day! Of course, we weren’t able to resist a little treat, and we decided to pick up a fresh hot chocolate with a mountain of cream, straight out of one of the city's many quaint little cafes. Oh darling, don’t forget to pop on those thick, knitted woolen socks too. It's all about layers - a bit of comfort with a touch of stylish chic - that’s the key to getting through any weather and keeping a graceful demeanour at all times!
* The Pink Tutu Travels Onwards: Prague is Only the Beginning*
There's nothing like experiencing a new city with the Pink Tutu spirit, is there? With the beauty of the Charles Bridge in my memory and a handful of stories ready to be told from my enchanting carriage ride (Oh yes, we even bumped into an impromptu group of ballet dancers from the Prague Ballet in the main square. Who knew, you really do meet amazing people in Prague - a total testament to how vibrant and alive this place is). And we all know, the journey is the best part. So, darling, stay tuned because, like every other week, we'll have more pinky, tutu-filled, Prague fun for you next week! But for now, I must go, I have a very important dance performance to go to - oh! And just to make things a little extra magical - I am actually going to try out a Prague ballet studio this week while I’m here! I promise to tell you all about it. What are you waiting for? Hop on board, this pink tutu is heading for new horizons - because as you know, ballet isn't just for a day at the theatre. It's a journey, a way of life! Until next week my beautiful angels, take care!
Love and pink,
Emma.
