Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from Prague! Yes, I finally made it to the City of a Hundred Spires and it was utterly divine.
This week's blog is all about pink tutus and Prague, and it was pure enchantment.
This was actually a very special trip, my first to Prague, and my 1684th blog post, a very special milestone for my dear little pink-tutu corner of the internet! You'd never guess it from the vibrant, pulsating city that is Prague, but there's a rather charming history of tutus here, stretching right back to the early 19th century!
Now, I’ll admit, the thought of getting to Prague, a place I've dreamt about for years, made me do a little twirl! This was definitely a trip I'd been planning for ages and funding with the grace of my tutu performances.
This time, I packed my favourite pink suitcase - it really is the perfect colour, darling - and hopped on a train for my adventures in this beautiful city. Prague by train is a dream, the views are truly beautiful, and with a nice glass of sparkling wine (pink, naturally!), the journey flies by! I might add a mention here for the wonderful railway stations in Prague, they are absolutely gorgeous. The neo-renaissance arches of Praha hl.n. and the fairy-tale architecture of Masaryk station both made me wish I was a real life Disney princess!
And now, dear readers, it’s time for the main event! The Pink Tutu Ballet, and I can confidently say it's definitely one for the books, and certainly one of my absolute favourites. Held in the magnificent National Theatre (the interiors are truly jaw-dropping, darlings!), it was a spectacularly staged, emotionally powerful, and utterly breathtaking production.
Let me tell you, dear readers, the costumes! chefs kiss. They were all shades of delicate pinks and blushing reds, the tutus… divine. I could have stayed there for hours, lost in the exquisite detail, and the intricate choreography was truly a feast for the eyes. My pink tulle skirt had a lovely little shimmy to it while I watched! The choreography itself felt fresh and exciting, so dynamic, a gorgeous mix of classic and modern with just the right dash of playful drama.
Afterwards, it was time for a spot of shopping, which is practically mandatory for any ballet enthusiast, or for any self-respecting pink-tutu lover. This beautiful city is an absolute haven for elegant, timeless style and classic, beautiful, chic designs... and did I mention the fantastic shoe shops?! sigh. Prague really is the most amazing mix of historical architecture, fascinating museums and an unbelievably sophisticated fashion scene, and if there’s one thing that will get me excited, it’s beautiful, fashionable items that evoke history and have the capacity to make you feel beautiful. I'll post about the fabulous boutiques I found later in the week - some true gems - trust me, they deserve their own special mention.
But first, I wanted to dive deeper into tutu history, especially in Prague, because, let's face it, tutus are, in many ways, synonymous with ballet, so when you are talking about ballet history, it feels completely natural to bring them into the equation! And guess what, darling, Prague’s own ballet story actually dates back to 1812, long before you had those tutus we see in Swan Lake or Giselle. A ballerina, Mademoiselle Bourgeois, was visiting from Vienna and started a dance school which became The Bourgeois Dance Academy, teaching in French and in a room in the National Theatre. Talk about tutu beginnings!
So the whole point is, my dear readers, Prague is full of stories, especially about ballet! If you want to learn more about Prague's ballet scene, its captivating past, or just feel that irresistible allure of its majestic atmosphere, then this really is the city for you. I suggest heading to the National Theatre. If you're lucky you might catch a performance there, like I did - my trip to Prague, which culminated in my very special pink tutu moment!
For those of you thinking about getting your very own pink tutu (ahem darling, it is a lovely, happy way to show off that beautiful, sassy and colourful part of your personality ahem), well, there are so many amazing vintage shops here! I picked up the cutest pink ribbon and feathers for my new project. There are so many little details here - hidden gem shops tucked away on back streets, market stalls and tiny studios all dedicated to art and crafts. I can’t wait to put this gorgeous little detail together for my latest pink creation - the colour combination is divine.
Prague was truly a magical trip, a real pink tutu fairytale! If you want to see more of this wonderful city - it truly deserves its name ‘The City of a Hundred Spires!’, come and check out my Instagram Stories, there are all sorts of glimpses into my Prague adventures. I promise to upload my outfit photos soon, they are all divine - the gorgeous new pink tutu-inspired piece I just bought is featured in a number of these photos… and I’m certain it will get all my darling followers feeling the pink tutu spirit.
Don't forget to check in again next Wednesday for more from me. Until then, twirl with joy! ?❤️
