Hello darlings! ?✨
It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing ballerina extraordinaire, and I’m positively giddy to be back on the blog, fresh from my trip to the most magical city: Prague! I simply had to share every gorgeous detail with you, from the fairytale castles to the cobbled streets to the utterly fabulous ballet performances that have filled my heart with joy.
Before I tell you all about Prague’s breathtaking ballet scene, let me take you on a whirlwind tour of my own journey. You see, this week’s adventure started right back in Derbyshire, my dear homeland, where I traded in my comfy car for something a bit more whimsical – a horse, my dear. Yes, a horse! He was the most magnificent chestnut with the kindest eyes and a gentle, gliding gait that made the journey truly unforgettable. The air was crisp, the autumn leaves were swirling around us, and the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves against the pavement had me humming my favourite ballet melodies. Honestly, there's no better way to feel utterly fabulous and transported to another world than by pony! ?
Reaching Prague by Train
Once in London, I swapped the hooves for train tracks. This time, I travelled in style, boarding a sleeper train bound for the Czech Republic. Oh, the romance of it all! Waking up to a breathtaking sunrise, with the smell of coffee and the gentle rhythm of the wheels lulling me into a blissful dreamlike state – it felt like I was starring in my very own ballet storybook! ?
First Impressions of Prague
Prague, oh Prague! You are so picturesque! It's like a fairytale come to life, all winding streets and stunning architecture that takes you back in time. The first sight that greeted me as I disembarked was the iconic Charles Bridge, bustling with life and history. Every building seemed to have a story to tell, each detail a testament to the city’s rich heritage. I felt a strong pull to wander and explore, and that's exactly what I did. The narrow cobbled streets, charming cafés, and captivating views of the Vltava River all blended seamlessly into one magical symphony of sensory delight!
Ballet in Prague – A City of Grace
Now, on to the heart of my Prague adventure: the ballet! I absolutely adore ballet, and this city certainly didn’t disappoint. It was time for a visit to Prague’s exquisite National Theatre. It's an iconic architectural beauty, nestled on the banks of the Vltava, radiating history and culture. The moment I stepped inside, my heart skipped a beat. The grandeur, the intricate ornamentation, the very air itself hummed with anticipation for a magical evening. I felt the history of every ballerina who graced this stage before me, all those grand jetés and soaring arabesques swirling around me. I was captivated!
Performances
This time, the Prague Ballet had a double bill – one new, one old – so I knew I was in for a treat. The first was L’après-midi d’un faune by Debussy. What an incredible piece! So passionate, evocative, and the music perfectly mirrored the movements of the dancers, so beautiful! My breath hitched, my heart soared, my soul felt uplifted by their grace and elegance! I can’t say enough about the detail and fluidity of the movements, so truly captivating.
The second was a familiar friend, the timeless Giselle. My goodness! The performance was exquisite, from the sheer drama of the plot to the breathtaking choreography that truly brought Giselle’s story to life. Every step, every arabesque, every pose told a story of love, loss, and heartbreak.
And let me tell you, darling, the audience here is truly passionate about ballet! You could feel the energy and the love in the air, just as tangible as the aroma of coffee and pastries that wafted through the theatre during intermission. It's a delight to share these experiences with like-minded individuals, everyone there to simply lose themselves in the art of ballet.
Beyond the Stage
Now, no trip to Prague would be complete without a spot of fashion. You know how much I love me some sparkly, fun fashion, so Prague was a paradise for my pink-loving heart! I visited the most amazing vintage shops, filled with unique pieces and gorgeous accessories. I even found the most perfect pastel-pink hat with a delicate feather plume, perfect for pairing with my tulle skirt, naturally! ?
And speaking of tulle, did I tell you about the incredible tulle-filled shop I stumbled upon? A wonderland of pastel shades and flowing fabrics, it felt like a dream. I swear, it was like entering the very wardrobe that leads to Narnia, but instead of snow and woodland creatures, it was just fluffy clouds of tulle and countless sewing machines buzzing away, crafting delicate gowns for a new generation of ballet lovers. You simply HAVE to see it! I could barely tear myself away.
