Wednesday 22nd December, 2027
Good morning, darlings! Emma here, signing in from the glorious city of Prague, where I'm currently basking in a swirl of pastel hues, baroque beauty, and an insatiable craving for all things pink. The air is crisp and tinged with the promise of a Christmas wonderland, and as I type this, snowflakes are pirouetting delicately down, creating a whimsical, balletic scene right outside my window.
Today marks my fourth week in this enchanting city, and already, I feel a profound connection with its rich history, charming cobblestone streets, and the whispers of fairytale magic that seem to linger around every corner. But let's be honest, what really drew me here, beyond the undeniable allure of the city itself, was the promise of ballet. Prague boasts a vibrant ballet scene, with an impressive roster of world-class performances and venues like the Prague National Theatre, known for its exceptional acoustics and stunning neo-renaissance architecture.
My arrival in Prague was, as usual, an elegant affair. I made my grand entrance on the "Pink Panther" express train (which, of course, was an adorable little pink-themed train!), travelling directly from Salzburg, where I performed a rather successful Sleeping Beauty excerpt at the Festspielhaus. (More on that exciting experience next week, darling!). Prague station was awash with a delightful Christmas atmosphere. I found myself quite literally transported into a world of sparkling lights, twinkling decorations, and the heady scent of roasted chestnuts and gingerbread. And, to top it all off, a mischievous street performer was juggling colourful pinwheels, adding another layer of whimsy to the occasion.
Ballet on my mind (and in my heart!)
Before even settling into my charming boutique hotel (imagine plush velvet armchairs, crystal chandeliers, and pink-hued roses adorning every nook and cranny – I am a woman of exquisite tastes, after all), I was off to a ballet class at the Dance Theatre Prague. You see, I never truly leave the world of ballet, even when I’m not performing. These classes allow me to stay in top shape and tap into my inner ballerina. Plus, there is no better way to discover the magic of a new city than through its ballet community. The class, held in a studio bathed in soft candlelight, was full of energy and passion, with talented instructors and friendly students. As the barre vibrated under our nimble fingers, and our legs effortlessly floated into perfect fifth positions, I couldn't help but feel the warmth of the community, even amongst a sea of strangers. The shared language of ballet unites us all.

Afterwards, I decided to take advantage of my pink-loving soul and embark on a delightful spree through Prague’s antique and vintage boutiques, on the hunt for a truly special, one-of-a-kind tutu for my performance tonight. (Don't worry, darling, I'm saving all the juicy details for tomorrow's blog!) My shopping adventure led me to a hidden gem in the heart of Old Town – a vintage store filled with dazzling garments from the Art Deco era. The shopkeeper, a sweet old lady with eyes that twinkled like stars, helped me navigate through rows of velvet gowns, feathers, and exquisite hand-painted silks, offering insights into each piece’s unique history.
Prague Ballet Experience - The Main Event
Tonight's show will be the highlight of my entire trip: The Nutcracker at the magical Prague State Opera. I must say, the anticipation for this event is running high! I’ve already seen countless stunning photographs and read enthusiastic reviews about this particular production. They promise a truly captivating spectacle with breathtaking costumes, innovative choreography, and a charmingly original take on the classic story. Oh, and to top it all off, the theatre’s famed crystal chandeliers and stained-glass windows create a mesmerizing setting. I'm practically giddy with excitement, darling. And who knows, maybe this magical evening will inspire me to whip up my very own rendition of the "Sugar Plum Fairy" in pink, for my upcoming ballet competition in Derbyshire!

Well, I better go and get myself ready! My little black cocktail dress is waiting for me (with a playful hint of pink, of course!), and tonight, the world of Prague awaits!

PPS I must also tell you about this lovely little boutique that I stumbled upon called “Prague Princess,” which stocks the most delightful ballet-inspired dresses! The shop itself looks like a miniature fairytale castle with a whimsical facade and window displays filled with tulle skirts, pink satin slippers, and sequined headbands. I can't resist the charm!
PPS (yes, I have more!) Oh, how I love to wander through this city's charming streets, finding hidden squares and whimsical fountains tucked away behind ancient buildings! For a delightful surprise, be sure to visit the astronomical clock in the Old Town Square – its magical movement and intricate details never fail to amaze!
P.S. One of the most charming ways to get around Prague is via pony. They call them "Prag ponies!" (Although they may not wear tutus, darling, it seems!) The pony ride through the Prague Old Town is not only fun and easy-going but also a wonderful opportunity to admire the stunning architectural highlights at a leisurely pace. Just be warned, they are very playful, and there's a high risk of getting an adorable pink feather tied to your ponytail. (Don’t worry, darling, I found it very flattering.)
