Hello, my gorgeous darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means a fresh post from your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel blogger! This week, I’m in Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires! As a seasoned ballerina, I have to admit, there’s just something magical about a city steeped in history and charm – and Prague delivers on both counts, with its cobbled streets, Baroque architecture, and, of course, the magnificent Prague State Opera.
I know what you’re thinking – Prague and a pink tutu? Absolutely, darling! As a lifelong lover of the art of dance, a visit to a city renowned for its musical heritage was a no-brainer. It’s the perfect setting for a ballet enthusiast like myself to soak in the ambiance, indulge in some serious shopping (because who doesn’t need a new tutu to go with every destination, right?), and explore the city in all its glorious, fairytale-esque wonder.
Prague: Where Romance Meets Culture
Stepping off the train, I was greeted by a blast of festive Christmas cheer. Prague’s wintertime charm was already captivating – twinkling lights, cosy markets, and a fairytale atmosphere in every corner.
As always, my arrival in a new city wouldn’t be complete without a celebratory photoshoot in a strategically chosen spot. And for this stop, darling, it had to be the iconic Charles Bridge, all lit up for Christmas! Just me, my signature pink tutu (a blush-pink, velvet beauty from the latest Parisian collection, darling!), and the Prague skyline behind me. I might have squealed a bit when I saw how the bridge sparkled with the reflection of the Vltava River. Honestly, this city already felt like a dream!
The Majesty of the Prague State Opera
Speaking of dreams, my visit to the Prague State Opera was an absolute masterpiece. The grandeur of the architecture, the opulent decorations, and the sheer magic of the performance itself, I was speechless, darling! It felt like I’d been transported to a different time. It reminded me so much of the Grand Theatre in Derbyshire where I spent my childhood attending ballets. There's a history to this artform, a romance to the architecture. It's not just about dancing, darling. It's about the experience, the magic in the air.
The ballet, “Sleeping Beauty,” was pure delight, full of intricate choreography, dazzling costumes, and passionate performances. My inner ballerina practically danced in my seat! I almost had to jump on stage and take a bow, you know I love a classic! But my little feet stayed glued to my chair this time, in a perfectly pink ballet flat, of course.
Exploring the Charming Old Town
After the performance, we – and I'm using 'we' because darling, I've found the most delightful company in this city: a sweet group of artists and ballet dancers all dressed in a palette of delicious colours - decided to stroll through the Old Town Square.
The square was magical, decorated with a magnificent Christmas tree that reached right into the clouds. There were beautiful shops filled with local handicrafts and crafts, where I just had to indulge in some shopping for new tutus and some exquisite silk gloves. I adore silk and you know what they say - "there's never a wrong time to wear a statement silk glove!"
Ballet Bliss and Pastry Perfection
No trip to Prague would be complete without experiencing a little taste of local ballet history. The city, believe it or not, has its own distinct ballet legacy. I couldn't help myself, I had to visit the National Theatre - it’s where a lot of ballet stars were born, or so my research revealed! The architecture was absolutely breath-taking! The interiors are just as amazing as the outside, a truly captivating setting.
And what’s a trip to a new city without some local culinary indulgence, darlings? It’s tradition for me to always visit the most elegant cafes! Prague, it turns out, has some absolute gems in this category, and I couldn’t resist sampling their delicious cakes and pastries. You know I love a good sweet treat, and to top it off I had to pick up some authentic local Prague ham to take home.
The Perfect Tutu-Centric Christmas
Christmas Eve in Prague! That means it’s time to put on my most festive tutu, one with snowflakes and a touch of sparkle. Prague at Christmas is, to put it simply, an absolute delight, from the market stalls to the fairytale charm, the lights, and the cheerful music in every corner.
Tutu Tips for your Prague Adventures
For my fellow ballerina travellers, I've gathered a few tutu tips for a magical Prague adventure:
- Embrace the pink: The city is full of pink tones, and it truly enhances those picture-perfect Instagram moments. Think rose-gold, blush, flamingo…
- The tutu’s the thing: A light, whimsical tutu, something that flutters and twirls gracefully is perfect for the cobblestone streets. It’s an easy way to stand out in this city and add a splash of fairytale magic to your trip.
Dance in the streets: Prague has such a festive vibe that you'll be inclined to let loose! Take the opportunity to twirl and practice some of your favourite moves. And if you spot a fellow dancer in the crowd – don’t hesitate to ask them for a quick waltz or tango! It's an excellent way to connect with others.
Next Week:
As we are so close to the start of the New Year I will be back next week to tell you about how I celebrated the beginning of 2028, darling. I might have even ended up in the most exciting New Year’s party of them all...
Until then, keep your toes tappin' and your spirits bright!
Lots of love and twirls, Emma
