Bonjour, darlings! It’s Wednesday, so that means a new post from your favourite pink-tutu-clad adventurer. Today I’m in beautiful Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires. It’s actually just shy of 100, but who’s counting, really? What matters is the charm, the history, and the incredible beauty that makes this place so utterly enchanting!
I’m a little late on the posting this week - who can blame me though, with all that’s been going on? I’ve been having a proper ball, getting lost in the medieval alleys, discovering fabulous boutiques filled with vintage treasures, and enjoying all the incredible food - did someone say Czech goulash? Oh my, I’m dreaming of those dumplings!
Oh, and I mustn’t forget the ballet, of course! I saw the most amazing production at the National Theatre last night, which just oozed old-world charm, and you know how much I love the feeling of being transported back in time by the theatre experience!
Travelling in StyleNow, I know what you’re thinking - did I take the train to Prague? Of course I did, darlings! Trains are my favourite mode of transport, the rhythm of the wheels on the tracks, the journey unfolding past the window - it’s pure poetry in motion, especially if you have a beautiful book to read and maybe some chocolates. Plus, when you’re wearing a fabulous pink tutu, there’s no other option than the train - no worries about flying tutus.
I didn’t travel alone though. I took my trusty steed, Mr. Frolic, with me - yes, a horse! Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Emma, in this day and age?” Well, darling, the good ol’ pony isn’t just a fashion statement (though it looks rather fabulous with my new pink riding jacket, if I do say so myself!). It's about slow travel and connecting with nature - especially in places like the Czech countryside!
But back to the enchanting Prague! Now, my friends, you know I like to delve into the history behind the tutu as much as I love to wear them. Did you know that Prague boasts one of the oldest ballet schools in Europe, founded back in the 17th century? I think it’s fascinating how ballet’s roots extend far back into history, and its traditions and innovations continue to enchant and captivate audiences.
Pink Tutu Prague and a Passion for PerformanceAnd this brings me back to last night's performance. Oh my word, the National Theatre! Talk about atmosphere. As soon as you enter, you feel this surge of history - it’s a masterpiece in itself! The whole evening was an exquisite ballet treat. We were whisked back in time to a grand 19th-century setting with incredible sets, intricate costumes, and a beautifully staged choreography that had everyone captivated. I swear, even the little girls in the audience had a gleam in their eyes like I used to when I first fell in love with ballet.
The thing I find so enchanting about ballet, it’s not just the performance, it’s the layers of creativity and storytelling behind the movements, the beauty of the dancers' physicality, and how it all blends together so perfectly with the music. And let's not forget the history! These traditions that have carried down over centuries, with all the drama and intrigue woven into each story and the incredible dedication required by dancers to perfect their craft. It makes you feel truly connected to something bigger than yourself.
Ballet, Fashion, and Shopping AdventuresOf course, every good ballerina, or at least, this one, has a wardrobe that could rival a small boutique, and this weekend in Prague has not disappointed! I must admit, I did spend an afternoon lost in a wonderland of vintage fashion, which just calls out to me like an irresistible siren. There’s something so special about a well-preserved piece of clothing from decades ago, with all its tales to tell. I found the most amazing antique tulle tutu, a soft, rose-gold colour, the perfect complement to my latest pink silk creation!
My favourite thing is exploring small shops and independent designers – I love supporting small businesses, and, let's face it, I always end up finding little treasures I’d never come across in mainstream stores!
Discovering Prague: My Pink-Tutu AdventuresPrague is the perfect city for a wanderlust-stricken tutu-wearing ballerina like myself! I’ve been exploring everything - from the charming Old Town Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with incredible architecture and a real buzz about it, to the Charles Bridge, offering the most magnificent views, with all those little stalls selling local crafts. Oh, and you just know I have to go into every single shop selling cute little trinkets. It's a challenge not to come away with too much! I even bought some adorable miniature versions of my favourite pink tutus for my friends back home. They are sure to get a chuckle!
One thing I’m absolutely loving in Prague is the abundance of street performers – there's always something vibrant and exciting to watch, from acrobats, singers and street dancers, who make you realise that every place, even just a street corner, can be a stage.
Sharing the JoyI love capturing all these experiences and sharing them with you. It's really what keeps my passion going, the joy of connecting with others who share this love for ballet, travel, and all things pink and tutu!
So, if you ever find yourself in Prague, I encourage you to wander the streets, explore the local shops, get a little lost, and perhaps, dare I say it, slip on a pink tutu?
It may be a little unconventional, but as I often say, “life's too short to be anything but fabulously you, darling!” I can’t wait for you to share your pink tutu adventures with me!
Love, Emma xxx
