Hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, back from a whirlwind adventure in Prague, the city of a hundred spires and just as many breathtaking moments. This week's blog is extra special because it's dedicated to one of the most magical experiences I've had in recent months – a night at the National Theatre watching the most spectacular ballet production I've ever seen!
Prague has been on my list of dream destinations for ages, ever since I saw photos of the beautiful architecture, the charming cobbled streets, and the romantic ambiance. So, you can imagine how excited I was to finally make it here, especially for a show like this!
Pink Tutu TravelsGetting to Prague was a charming adventure in itself. From my cosy little cottage in Derbyshire, I hopped on the Eurostar to Paris, where I enjoyed a leisurely lunch and window-shopping session before boarding another train for Prague. Trains are my absolute favourite way to travel. They allow me to relax, enjoy the scenery, and immerse myself in a good book or, even better, a book about the history of tutus – oh, the incredible fashion stories they tell!
But of course, it wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu adventure without a touch of whimsy. Instead of hopping on a boring old taxi from the train station to my hotel, I treated myself to a unique experience – a horse-drawn carriage! Picture me, a vision in my favourite pink tutu (this one was adorned with tiny delicate lace roses, perfect for a romantic journey!), being whisked away through the picturesque streets of Prague. It was a fairytale moment, complete with cobblestones and quaint cafes.
Prague’s Pink ParadiseThe hotel I chose, a quaint boutique gem nestled in the heart of the Old Town, was an absolute dream. Not only was it a beautifully restored building with charm oozing from every nook and cranny, it even had a courtyard garden where I could sit and enjoy my morning tea while dreaming about the ballet performance.
You can’t walk through Prague without being captivated by the city’s timeless beauty. The streets are alive with history and vibrant culture, from the imposing Prague Castle towering over the city to the charming Charles Bridge with its intricate sculptures and bustling street artists. Everywhere I looked, there were incredible sights, the city just pulsating with creativity! I have to say, this city is definitely becoming a new favourite on my travel list, just a little touch of romance is what I need sometimes!
Finding my Inner Swan: The Prague National TheatreBut the main reason I came to Prague was for the ballet! It’s always an amazing experience, seeing these beautiful graceful dancers and all the drama of a show unfold, it truly makes me feel alive. This night, it was an even more profound experience, it’s as if the stage was brought to life through sheer magical power. The Prague National Theatre, an iconic masterpiece of architectural elegance, became the stage for an evening of sheer artistry. I've never seen a ballet performance that felt so immersive and profound, it was pure joy and spectacle in a magnificent setting.
The show itself was a breathtaking interpretation of Swan Lake, a ballet that always touches me in ways that words simply cannot express. Every move, every gesture, every costume, even every single flicker of light onstage was infused with grace, a powerful feeling of passion, and a subtle elegance that I cannot describe, you truly need to experience it to fully understand!
I confess, as the first delicate notes of the music floated across the theatre, I almost let out a tear! Swan Lake is so romantic, even in the grandest setting, it makes me swoon! It felt like an invitation into a world of pure beauty and elegance.
Watching these talented dancers soar across the stage with such precision and elegance, I found myself captivated, enthralled, and just a little bit jealous! Afterward, as the curtain fell to rapturous applause, I was transported, filled with a sense of peace and awe that can only come from experiencing a perfect performance.
But this wasn't just any Swan Lake! In fact, there was a fun twist on this iconic story. I won't reveal all the secrets because I want you to be surprised! Let’s just say that it wasn't your typical, "Prince-and-princess" version. It was much more nuanced, more evocative, and more thought-provoking.
A Touch of Pink ParadiseAnd speaking of "twists", I couldn't resist injecting a touch of Pink Tutu magic into this ballet-filled evening. After all, it's a universal truth that everything looks better in pink, don’t you agree? So, I slipped on a particularly fabulous pink tutu – it had layers of delicate tulle with an enchanting silver embroidery. It just screamed Prague to me!
I knew the ballet wasn’t expecting a tutu-clad guest, so I chose to sit at a bar right near the stage. There I had a wonderful view, with the grand performance unfolding in front of me, the amazing theatre space, and a lovely glass of pink champagne. It was just perfect!
A Taste of Prague’s DelightsAnd what would a journey to Prague be without indulging in its culinary delights? It was an explosion of flavour with everything I tried. I found a delicious little bistro tucked away in a cobbled street with some divine truffle pasta and traditional Czech pastries – I still dream of those flavours!
But no foodie journey in Prague is complete without indulging in one of their iconic desserts - the Trdelník! These sweet chimney cakes, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, were pure bliss!
I simply had to try it while I was there, even with all the amazing pastries around! Oh, and don't forget the delicious Czech beer - so smooth and refreshing!
I am such a sucker for local treats when travelling. There's nothing quite like tasting something truly unique and discovering a local favourite. I mean, a journey is incomplete without tasting its history and culture on your palate!
Pink Tutu MemoriesI savoured every moment of my journey through Prague. From strolling through its beautiful gardens, exploring the medieval streets, admiring the magnificent churches and breathtaking architecture, I truly felt at home in this vibrant and enchanting city. The whole journey made me feel like I'd stepped into a magical fairytale - and, of course, I wouldn't be caught dead without my perfectly pink tutu!
It truly was a Pink Tutu dream, and one that will stay with me forever.
