Hello, darling tutu-lovers! ??
Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina blogger, reporting live from the glorious city of Prague! This week, we're taking a whimsical journey through the cobbled streets, past towering spires and ancient castles, all while keeping my eye out for the perfect pastel pink ensemble. Oh, and naturally, we'll be indulging in some of the most stunning ballet performances Prague has to offer!
After a picturesque train journey from my dear Derbyshire, I arrived in this enchanting city, feeling like I'd stepped straight into a fairy tale. Prague's architecture is just breathtaking – imagine pastel-hued buildings adorned with intricate details, cascading balconies draped in blooming flowers, and churches that reach for the heavens like ethereal whispers. Every corner feels like a page from a storybook, just waiting to be explored!
Speaking of fairytale vibes, this week, I’m sharing with you, my darling readers, my love for the ballet, my obsession with tutus (pink, obviously!), and my latest adventures here in Prague, the ‘City of a Hundred Spires’. This beautiful city has always had a special place in my heart for its incredible ballet history. After all, the famous Czech choreographer, Václav Nižinsky, was born right here in Prague in 1889! His legacy, filled with beautiful and passionate movement, lives on in the many ballets and dance schools of the city. And let’s not forget the Prague National Theatre, where they still put on magnificent productions, enchanting audiences with stories told through dance.
This Wednesday, I am attending the Czech National Ballet’s production of ‘Giselle’. Oh, how I have been looking forward to this show! ‘Giselle’ is such a classic tale of heartbreak and betrayal, and the costumes are, of course, magnificent, but what I am most looking forward to, however, is seeing the ethereal choreography and the expressive performances. If you haven't experienced ‘Giselle’, you must, my dear tutu-lovers! It is a true masterclass in dance storytelling.
But before I dive headfirst into the magic of the ballet, let's talk fashion!
Prague is an absolute dream for a pink-tutu-loving shopaholic like myself. Every vintage boutique, every market stall, is overflowing with exquisite treasures, and the local designers are crafting the most beautiful garments – I'm simply in heaven!
Today, I was tempted by a darling pale-pink tutu with exquisite layers of lace, a vintage pearl necklace, and a blush-toned bolero with intricate embroidery – absolutely perfect for an evening at the opera, or even a moonlight stroll along the banks of the Vltava River. My trusty pony (he really is a very patient steed!) even allowed me to try it out at the Petřín Hill Lookout Tower. What a glorious setting to wear my latest find!
Speaking of glorious settings, I am quite certain this city’s historic architecture provides the perfect backdrop for my pink tutu – all those pastel colours really enhance its beauty, don't you think? I am thinking of having a photoshoot with a local artist, so I can share those with you soon – but you’ll have to wait for that treat, my loves.
Of course, a trip to Prague isn’t just about tutus and shopping! This city is also brimming with rich history and culture. I’ve been taking some ballet classes at the Czech Dance Academy, trying to learn a few local steps. It is so exciting to dance in a school with so much history behind it. Plus, my instructors are incredibly passionate about sharing the joy of movement with anyone, from beginner to pro. They're incredibly talented, but they're so patient and enthusiastic. We laughed a lot during the class and even learned about how the locals here believe ballet is a great way to express their feelings and share their love of the art form with each other.
And, for a change of pace from my tutu-loving endeavours, I spent the afternoon strolling through the historic Old Town Square, marvelling at the majestic Astronomical Clock and its animated figures, soaking in the vibrant energy of the market, and tasting local delicacies, which I must say were quite delightful. Prague is a true feast for the senses!
But even amongst the bustling markets and lively performances, the one thing that truly captivated my heart is the enchanting Charles Bridge. As I walked across its cobbled surface, bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, I felt a deep sense of awe and tranquility. This bridge is an architectural masterpiece, a historical monument that speaks to the city's rich and varied past.
Tonight, I will continue my adventure, exploring the bohemian spirit of Prague. I will be checking out the city’s 'Ballet Street' performances – an energetic and spontaneous showcase of dance on the streets. This street performance is a fusion of street dancing, acrobatics, and circus arts. It’s definitely a must-see for any dance lover visiting the city!
And of course, I wouldn't miss a delicious meal at one of Prague’s quaint restaurants, accompanied by a glass of Czech beer.
You know what I always say, my darling tutu-lovers:
"Every day is a dance, a beautiful ballet of life, and every place is a stage."
So let's twirl through Prague together, let's embrace the beauty of this magnificent city, and most importantly, let's inspire the world to embrace its own inner ballerina!
Don't forget to check back next Wednesday for more updates from Prague and all my sartorial discoveries! And in the meantime, keep dancing and spreading the love of pink tutus! ?
Yours in twirling,
Emma x
