Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement to tell you all about my recent adventure in Prague! Oh my goodness, it’s such a magical city! As soon as I stepped off the train, I knew it was going to be a fabulous time.
Now, before we get to the dancing and the dreamy Czech capital, I just had to tell you about my travel. I have a slight confession: I journeyed here via a most peculiar means of transport… a pony! Don’t worry, darling, not just any pony. This one is called Percy, and he's as fabulous as his name. My good friend Jessica owns him, and we often travel to nearby shows and festivals by his gentle side, especially when the train journey takes longer than a few hours! Percy might not have been strictly necessary for my trip to Prague (the train is actually quite nice), but I can’t help but think he deserves his little moment of fame. Besides, I needed a photogenic companion for my Instagram feed!
Okay, back to the magic of Prague! I arrived on a Thursday evening, and let me tell you, my dear, the energy of the city is absolutely electric! There were musicians serenading outside the stunning gothic architecture, buskers doing elaborate street dances with their dancing partners, and laughter echoing through the cobbled streets. It was a joyous spectacle! Prague simply bursts with history, beauty, and vibrant life. I couldn’t wait to dive into this charming metropolis!
Tutu Shopping: A Parisian Boutique
Of course, the first thing on my agenda was finding a fabulous tutu! Thankfully, I found a little hidden gem in the heart of the old town, called "La Ballerina" - oh, the irony! It’s the most exquisite Parisian-inspired boutique, stocked with delicate silks, satins, and tulle, and I even found the most delightful pair of feather-trimmed gloves – perfect for adding a dash of whimsy to my evenings! My search was made even more enchanting by the soft tinkling of the grand piano that sat in the corner, playing graceful melodies. I couldn’t resist adding a touch of Parisian romance to my Prague wardrobe – the new tulle is going to be simply heavenly!
A Day at the Opera House
Saturday night was a whirlwind of musical splendour! We went to the Prague State Opera House, a masterpiece of architectural beauty! I felt like I’d stepped into a fairy tale, with intricate chandeliers illuminating the grandeur of the main hall. And oh, the performance! The Prague Ballet, the Czech Republic’s renowned company, graced the stage with their unparalleled grace and breathtaking athleticism! It was a powerful rendition of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, and I felt the magic of the ballet fill my very being. The costumes were a dream - glittering tutus adorned with Swarovski crystals, soft and airy velvet gowns that whispered in the moonlight, and handsome uniforms adorned with sparkling braid. I can still see those swans floating with the most delicate elegance – I simply fell in love with it!
A History Lesson & a Pint of Pilsner
Sunday afternoon took us to the charming district of Mala Strana, where I discovered an unexpected treat. Nestled amongst quaint cobblestone streets and baroque buildings was a museum dedicated to the history of dance – particularly ballet. Oh, how I love learning about the evolution of the tutu! The museum had incredible period costumes on display, complete with descriptions and historical facts. It's amazing to see how the ballet style and the tutus have evolved throughout the years, right up to the modern tutu styles used by today’s ballets. The detail was captivating, and the information gave me a deep appreciation for the artistry and historical significance of ballet, especially the design and construction of a perfect tutu. My afternoon wouldn’t be complete without a pint of locally brewed Pilsner in the nearby Staroměstské náměstí (the Old Town Square)! I enjoyed it alongside the famous Astronomický hodin (Astronomical Clock), which mesmerizes you with its beautiful chimes.
Exploring the Hidden Corners of Prague
But my exploration of this city was far from over! The week ahead promised a whirlwind of art, architecture, and delicious food! My good friend and I took a beautiful boat tour on the Vltava River and gazed in awe at the magnificent Prague Castle, illuminated by the setting sun. The Charles Bridge was a sight to behold, overflowing with street art, and it simply charmed me!
A Chance Encounter on the Charles Bridge
Speaking of the Charles Bridge, we had the most incredible chance encounter while strolling along this landmark! I saw the most captivating dancer – he was wearing a costume, beautifully adorned with feathers and sequins, and moving to the enchanting tunes played by a group of musicians nearby. I immediately felt a connection to him - we shared a smile, and even shared a dance! I've been telling everyone that the whole scene was the perfect "out-of-a-movie" moment, a beautifully spontaneous dance beneath the stars in Prague.
Ballet Performances and Food!
On Friday, the week was complete with a captivating dance performance in the Prague Dance Center. It’s a beautifully-designed space, tucked away within the city's old town, that boasts a very diverse and thrilling performance schedule, This was truly a magical night filled with modern choreography and expressive dance. The audience’s enthusiasm was contagious, and I was blown away by the talents I witnessed that night! Following this beautiful spectacle, we enjoyed the local Czech fare - we ate so much, I’m practically a new woman! The pork schnitzels, potato salad and Pilsner was just the icing on the cake!
