Winter Ballet Season in Marseille

Tutu Time in Marseille! 🩰❄️

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, and I'm positively buzzing about the winter ballet season in Marseille. This city just knows how to throw a fabulous winter party. From the moment I arrived in this beautiful, bustling port city, it felt like the whole place had been dusted with magic.

Let me tell you, the crisp air, the scent of orange blossom, and the stunning backdrop of the Mediterranean are just the perfect ingredients for a truly special winter. And when you throw some utterly divine ballet into the mix – well, it’s pretty much impossible not to be in love. 💖

This year's programme is just brimming with exciting performances, from the breathtaking grandeur of Ballet National de Marseille to the wonderfully playful Compagnie Chassé Croisé. The range of talent and choreography is simply divine, making me wish I could see everything all at once. But fear not, fellow ballet lovers, for Emma will be sharing her personal highlights – and a few secret tips – for a truly memorable experience.

First stop, Ballet National de Marseille – a true titan of the ballet world. Their rendition of "The Nutcracker" was absolutely stunning. As I watched those gorgeous dancers flit across the stage, I was transported straight to a wintry wonderland. Their grace, the perfectly executed turns, the sheer passion… It really left me feeling utterly mesmerized!

And, let’s not forget those stunning costumes! Pink tutus. Sparkling slippers. Exquisite, hand-sewn details… I swear, it felt like a dream come true. Every movement felt infused with pure magic. ✨

And to top it off, they held a fantastic “Disco Night” themed evening for the performance! Think glitter cannons, sparkly ballgowns, and the most dazzling choreography you’ve ever seen set to some of our favourite disco anthems. The energy was electrifying! Seriously, if you only go to see one ballet during the winter, make it “Disco Nutcracker!” – it's sure to have you dancing all night long! 🪩

Now, on to something a little more contemporary – Compagnie Chassé Croisé’s performance of "Urban Echoes" was a complete revelation. Think intricate, captivating routines, powerful emotions, and a truly innovative interpretation of street dance. It was just SO captivating! The way they seamlessly blended ballet with modern elements left me feeling like I was witnessing a whole new world of movement.

But it's not just about the performances – Marseille itself is brimming with character. Imagine wandering cobblestone streets adorned with twinkling lights, savouring steaming mugs of hot chocolate, and perhaps indulging in a little bit of chocolat chaud aux marrons (trust me, this is essential!) Then there are the incredible restaurants! A symphony of flavour awaits! Be sure to make time to savor some classic Bouillabaisse, perhaps washed down with a glass of pastis. And to really get into the mood for the performances, I recommend some of their delightful, handmade chocolats en forme de danseuses - a treat so beautiful, it’s almost a shame to eat! 😉

Oh, and let's not forget those cosy café corners! Imagine reading a book, basking in the golden light, while the sound of an old gramophone fills the air. You’ll feel instantly transported to a bygone era. Or if you're feeling particularly adventurous, explore one of their bustling markets, pick up a vibrant scarf for warmth, and grab some fresh croissants for a decadent treat!

Honestly, my darling, it feels like you can practically taste the magic of the season just being here in Marseille. And I haven't even touched upon the art galleries, the breathtaking architecture, the ancient Roman ruins, or the charming cobbled alleyways that all come together to make this a truly captivating city!

There's really something for everyone during this enchanting season – the energy is simply irresistible.

So grab your favourite pair of sparkly tights (pink is always a good idea!), your warmest coat, and get ready for a whole lot of tutu magic! ❄️💖
