Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! #20
Wednesday 25th October 1995
Buongiorno from the Eternal City! It's Wednesday, which means a brand new post for my Pink Tutu Rome adventure! This week has been an absolute whirlwind of sights, smells, and, of course, pink! And yes, my dear readers, you guessed it - my trusty pink tutu is right here by my side, ready to twirl amongst the cobbled streets and ancient ruins!
Rome is a symphony of the senses. From the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread wafting from every bakery to the vibrant hues of the Renaissance masterpieces gracing the city's walls, it's an assault of beauty on every level. And honestly, my little pink tutu just adds to the joyous chaos of it all!
The Joy of Train Travel
This week I embraced the charming chaos of travelling by train. Leaving the crisp Derbyshire air behind, I embarked on my Italian escapade. As the train hurtled through the English countryside, I watched in awe as the green fields gave way to rolling hills dotted with quaint villages. Then, finally, we arrived in Paris - my favourite pit stop for some serious shopping therapy. Who can resist a little Parisian flair, even with a pink tutu in tow? I indulged in a little "moi-time" in the fashion houses, and my suitcase is bursting with the most divine little silk scarves and an oh-so- chic Parisian beret (I even found one with pink stitching!).
From Paris, I hopped onto a sleeper train bound for the heart of Italy, Rome. The journey was magical. The moon painted a silver sheen on the sleeping landscape as the train chugged along, and I caught myself staring out the window, captivated by the slow passing scenery. It felt like a dream, like one of those fairytale journeys, a fitting beginning to this enchanting week.
The Roman Circus & a Spot of Tutu Magic
I've been dancing on the streets of Rome! Not literally, though the idea is utterly delightful! My adventures today took me to the ancient Roman Circus Maximus - once the scene of chariot races and gladiatorial contests. Standing there, surrounded by the ruins of this historic marvel, I could almost imagine the roars of the crowds and the thunder of hooves.
Naturally, I decided to make my own "pink tutu" circus performance, a mini one, right there amongst the ancient ruins! Picture it, my tutu billowing in the soft Roman breeze, me twirling to an imaginary beat, surrounded by the echoing silence of a bygone era. It was a truly magical moment!
A Slice of Roman Life: The Gelateria
No trip to Italy is complete without a visit to a traditional "Gelateria." Imagine, the most glorious, colorful concoctions made of the freshest, most delicious ingredients imaginable, piled high in a cone! Today, I sampled a divine symphony of flavors: creamy hazelnut, tangy lemon sorbet, and, of course, a scoop of decadent strawberry gelato! My little tutu got a tiny taste too, because sharing is caring!
Roman Delights & A Hint of Pink
This evening, I dined on the most enchanting Roman delicacy: Spaghetti alla Carbonara! Picture this, creamy egg-based sauce, pancetta, pecorino cheese, and a sprinkling of black pepper, a truly divine taste sensation! And of course, I did a little impromptu pink tutu dance at the restaurant. People stopped and smiled. I think my little twirls added some pink charm to their evening!
Tonight's Show - The Magic of Ballet in Rome
The pinnacle of my Rome experience will be tonight's ballet performance. The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma will be hosting the renowned Bolshoi Ballet. I am completely thrilled! Imagine me, with my pink tutu, surrounded by such artistic grandeur. I'll be sure to post photos, of course, and hopefully a few little videos for you all to enjoy.
Until next week, my darlings! Ciao for now, and remember, every day is a chance to embrace your inner ballerina, pink tutu or not!
