Post Number 28: My Roman Adventure Continues!

Well, darling readers, I'm absolutely thrilled to be writing this week's post from the heart of Rome! Rome - the Eternal City! 🏛️ I finally arrived on Monday after a whirlwind train journey from Paris (which was simply divine, full of handsome Frenchmen!). My suitcase was overflowing with a bevy of pink delights – my trusty travel tutu, naturally, and enough tulle to grace a dozen ballets.

From Eiffel Tower to Colosseum

The past couple of days have been a whirl of history, culture, and breathtaking sights!

Firstly, let's talk about the Colosseum! A simply majestic structure that transports you straight to gladiatorial battles, chariots racing, and a glorious history. It's so easy to see why it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. It truly is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, isn't it? Of course, I couldn't resist a twirl or two for a fabulous photo in front of this magnificent piece of ancient architecture. 😉 My pink tutu perfectly complemented the colours of the setting sun, casting long shadows against the ancient stones – pure magic!

Then, a visit to the Pantheon! This astonishing monument - built as a temple dedicated to all gods, is so impressive, it leaves you speechless. Just try to imagine the sheer effort involved in building it back in Ancient Rome! My pink tutu seemed quite a lot of fun compared to the incredible history and effort this temple embodies. I can't imagine it took one less minute for all those massive slabs of concrete to be brought in place - a masterpiece in its simplicity, just like the architecture itself! I felt utterly transported back to the era of the Roman Empire! Truly inspiring. I must admit, it was a little chilly, but even the brisk wind couldn't detract from the awe-inspiring atmosphere. And let's face it, what's a pink tutu for if not for braving the elements? 😉

The Art of the Roman Forum

Another essential visit for any self-respecting cultural connoisseur is the Roman Forum. Such incredible ruins - a powerful reminder of the might and influence of the Roman Empire. To be standing on this hallowed ground where ancient emperors once walked – it's breathtaking. It truly brings history to life!

My travel journal has become an absolute masterpiece – crammed full of sketches and observations of the exquisite architecture, vibrant mosaics, and fascinating carvings that adorn this historical gem.

And speaking of art, how about the Borghese Gallery?! My goodness, darling, it’s an absolute treasure of sculpture, art, and a beautiful garden, all in one! Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernini… These masterful artists left such a lasting legacy – the statues seemed to move in the afternoon light, it was truly mesmerising. It was like walking through an open-air art museum. Such a glorious feast for the eyes.

Festive Fashion: Holiday Cheer in Rome

Now, the Christmas spirit has descended upon Rome! ✨ Everywhere I look there are twinkling lights, Christmas trees decked in boughs of holly, and beautifully decorated shops bursting with festive cheer. It's so romantic, isn't it? It was all so pretty – from the twinkling lights strung across the squares to the aroma of delicious panettone baking in the shop windows.

Even my pink tutu is feeling festive! I purchased the most charming pink velvet headband, adorned with a single, sparkling red bow, to give my outfit a touch of holiday flair. I imagine myself a pink sugar plum fairy dancing through the Christmas market – isn’t that perfect for Christmastime?! Of course, I had to pick up some exquisite holiday treats, the smell was heavenly. Let's be honest, a pink tutu always gets you the best discounts, and with Christmas around the corner, a little "Merry Shopping" is simply unavoidable! You should have seen my eye for all the charming pink-tastic Christmas ornaments – I bought one of a cute pink penguin for my tree back in Derbyshire!

An Evening of Elegance - Opera at The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma

Tonight, I have the privilege of attending a performance of "La Bohème" at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. A stunning opera house built at the turn of the last century with incredible opulence! Oh my! You can imagine my excitement at wearing my most sparkly pink tutu, knowing I'll be amidst all the beautiful lights and gorgeous fashion of Rome.

What a dream, dancing down the streets of Rome to the melodic tones of La Bohème! I’ll be sure to update you with my post-opera thoughts. 😉

And to end this post, I must add a little secret – the very charming young gentleman who served me at the pasta shop near my hotel offered me a rose on my way out! So lovely, wasn’t it? He complimented my tutu, saying “bella ballerina!”. How sweet is that? You must know by now how much I love a little romance. I guess I'm just as smitten with this beautiful city as it is with me!

See you all next Wednesday with more from my Roman adventures! And remember – let’s keep spreading the joy of pink tutus – let your inner ballerina shine! 💖

Much love, Emma xx
