Pink Tutu Rome: #74 - November 6th 1996: Ciao Bella!

Ciao, darling! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad travel blogger Emma, reporting live from the Eternal City, Rome! My little toes are tapping with excitement - I finally made it to the land of pasta, pizza, and beautiful ruins! And yes, believe it or not, the Italian love for the colour pink has definitely been rubbing off on me. Pink palazzo pants? Pink marble sculptures? Pink flowers in the Forum? It's a pink explosion!

This week, we're ditching the ballet studio for a week of exploring ancient history, gorging on delicious Italian food, and of course, doing some seriously chic shopping! And I've got to say, it feels incredible to be here. The energy, the scent of the ancient streets, the friendly faces – it’s magical!

Remember, my dearest followers, the mission remains the same: to spread the joy of pink tutus far and wide! Every adventure is an opportunity to showcase my love for twirling, my passion for pink, and my unshakeable belief in the power of expressing yourself through fashion!

Arriving in Style

The journey to Rome was an absolute dream! Remember I mentioned how much I love travelling by train? Well, my journey through Europe is shaping up to be the most magical train trip ever! From the stunning countryside views of Derbyshire, to the quaint charm of the French villages, and now, the breathtaking scenery of the Italian countryside, this train ride has truly been an adventure!

Arriving in Rome’s Termini station, the chaos and excitement was truly electric. It felt like stepping into a scene from a Fellini film – tourists bustling everywhere, taxi horns honking, and an incredible scent of fresh espresso in the air. Of course, my trusty pink luggage (can you guess my favourite colour?) stood out against the bustling crowds, but no one seemed to bat an eyelid. Maybe they were too caught up in the Italian joy de vivre!

Stepping Back in Time

Rome's ancient wonders are simply breathtaking! Imagine me twirling my way through the Forum, admiring the crumbling majesty of the Colosseum, and marvelling at the Pantheon’s towering dome, all whilst wearing my favourite pink tutu, of course! My trusty pink tulle skirt really pops against the beige and ochre tones of the ancient city!

Speaking of pink, Rome has really been embracing its pink side. There's this amazing gelato shop near the Trevi Fountain with a beautiful pink pistachio gelato - my kind of flavour!

A Ballet Feast

But my favourite discovery so far? The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma! My heart leaped with joy when I heard about a stunning ballet production of "Giselle" playing at the theatre. As I sat amongst the elegant locals in my pink tulle skirt and glittering ballet shoes (what else would I wear?), the breathtaking beauty of the show took my breath away! The dancers, the music, the energy - it was an unforgettable night!

This beautiful opera house is truly an architectural gem and has inspired my latest pink tutu creation! I've been scribbling down ideas in my travel journal and can’t wait to share them with you all. I envision a sparkling tulle skirt with a soft pastel pink velvet bodice, maybe a delicate garland of pink roses around the waist - pure elegance with a playful touch!

Fashionista Finds

Speaking of inspiration, Rome has already become my new favourite shopping destination! I spent the afternoon exploring the Via Condotti and the Campo de’ Fiori - oh, the delights! There are vintage shops with silk scarves in every colour imaginable, beautiful boutiques filled with delicate lace and delicate hand-painted ceramics, and even a little shop filled with exquisite ballet shoes! I've managed to add a beautiful antique pearl necklace to my collection (of course it goes perfectly with my pink tutu!) and picked up some stunning handmade leather gloves. Shopping is truly an art form here.

Pasta Perfection

My tummy hasn’t been disappointed either! Rome has a passion for food that rivals my love for tutus, and the pasta! Oh, the pasta! It's incredible! My journey has so far taken me through many culinary delights – creamy carbonara, fragrant fettuccini Alfredo, and an unbelievably delicious bowl of spaghetti all'arrabiata. All served with a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese and a side of crisp, flavourful bread! I may just live here for the food alone!

And to make things even more delightful, a charming local café offered a special pink iced tea, specially for a "pink-tutu-loving ballerina," as they called me. I had to sample that pink delight, and guess what? They even offered to put a single pink rosebud in the cup!

The Pink Tutu Challenge Continues

But of course, amidst the beauty, the excitement, and the pasta, the challenge still remains - getting the whole world to embrace the pink tutu. So far, I've had a couple of curious looks at the Colosseum and on the metro (and several envious stares from women admiring my vintage pink tote bag!), but nothing too dramatic yet!

However, tonight, I have a secret plan... My final event is a special ballet class at the Academia di Ballo - the world-famous ballet academy right here in Rome! And guess what I'm planning to wear? You guessed it! My signature pink tutu. Maybe a bit of a change for a typical Italian ballet class, but I hope to bring a little joy (and pink) to the students. Maybe even inspire one or two to take up twirling in their own unique way!

This is just the start of my Roman adventure! Next week, I’m exploring the Roman Forum at dawn, enjoying some fabulous Roman nightlife (maybe a bit of flamenco dancing - my hips can’t resist!) and, of course, keeping you all up to date on my fashion finds, the tastiest restaurants, and the breathtaking ballet shows this magnificent city has to offer.

Stay tuned, my dearest pink-tutu-loving friends!

* Until next week, remember, life’s too short to wear anything other than pink tutus!*
