Pink Tutu Rome: #76 – A Whirlwind of Culture & Colour!

Wednesday, November 20th, 1996

Buongiorno, darlings! I’m writing to you from sunny Rome, where the gelato is melting in the afternoon sun and the cobblestone streets are whispering secrets of emperors and gladiators. It feels surreal to be in this historic city, where the past whispers through every creaking archway and crumbling statue.

This week has been a whirlwind of sightseeing, culture, and – naturally – shopping! I touched down in Rome a few days ago after an incredibly scenic train journey from Milan (don’t you just love train journeys? The rolling countryside is always such an inspiring backdrop). My little pink suitcase, stuffed to the brim with my most colourful and swirly tutu outfits, has become my faithful companion in this vibrant city.

Rome, my loves, is like a fairytale! The first thing that hit me was the incredible history and architecture – ancient ruins juxtaposed against Renaissance masterpieces, fountains overflowing with water, and charming little squares bustling with life. It feels like stepping back in time, but in the most beautiful and vibrant way.

But you know what else I'm absolutely loving about Rome? The FOOD! The food here is an explosion of flavour, textures, and passion. From the richest, creamiest gelato to the freshest seafood and perfectly al dente pasta, I am in foodie heaven!

Last night, I enjoyed the most delightful evening at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, where I experienced an enchanting performance of Swan Lake. I donned my new cherry blossom pink tulle tutu for the occasion – perfect for feeling like a princess in this magical setting! Seeing the swans dance, so gracefully and elegantly, truly took my breath away. It inspired me to write some new choreographic pieces, maybe a dramatic piece based on the Colosseum… sparkle

This week, I’ve been trying to find a pink tutu for everyone. There’s this wonderful vintage shop tucked away in a side street that’s been a dream for a tutu-loving soul like me! You'd be surprised what amazing treasures you can find in the heart of Rome.

Tonight, I'm venturing to the Galleria Borghese – a world-renowned art museum, to see the work of Caravaggio, Bernini and Raphael. And then, afterwards, I’ll be strolling through the beautiful gardens of the Galleria Borghese itself. It’s a truly perfect Roman afternoon. I’m definitely adding it to my must-see list. I've already captured some beautiful photos for you to see – a glimpse of pink tutu adventures through Roman piazzas and bustling streets. Stay tuned for a gallery on the blog soon!

Tomorrow I am hoping to get some shopping done in the Trevi Fountain area. You just have to love a place that inspires a ballerina's creativity so much. And after I get all my shopping finished, I am taking myself on a relaxing shopping tour of the streets and boutiques near the Pantheon, then a fabulous pizza dinner and some very cheeky cocktails. I think I'll get to indulge my love for all things glamorous and sparkling and have a little Pink Tutu celebration. This city just screams romance and laughter and it's hard not to get swept up in the joyous chaos. I can already see so many outfits I could imagine wearing.

And hey, you don’t need to be in Rome to capture that magic. Rome, to me, represents a kind of spirit - a way of life – one where we embrace passion and creativity. Don’t be afraid to break out of your comfort zone, to embrace the beautiful chaos of the world and find a little bit of magic in every day. I can't wait to share more of my Rome adventures with you, my darling readers. I have so much more to explore in this magical city. Remember, my lovely followers, embrace the Pink Tutu spirit, wherever you are. Until next Wednesday, ciao ciao!

Love and twirls,

Emma xxx
