Pink Tutu Rome: Post #87 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday 5th February 1997

Rome, Italy

Hello darlings! It's me, Emma, your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, back with another instalment of my Rome adventures! As I sit here, gazing out of my charming little window, overlooking a bustling cobbled street, the scent of freshly baked bread wafting in from a nearby bakery, I feel utterly charmed. This city, oh this city! It's vibrant, it's beautiful, and it's positively bursting with energy.

But first, let me tell you all about my journey! You know I love the thrill of a train journey, and this one certainly did not disappoint. We set off from Derbyshire early this morning, the sun glinting off the frost on the fields, a beautiful sight even on a February day. The train carriage was filled with chattering locals, a flurry of excited Italian voices filling the air. I love the way they speak, it's so melodic! I had packed my trusty travel tutu, of course - a soft peachy pink that brought a smile to everyone's face - and a new book I picked up from my favourite bookstore, ā€œRoman Holiday,ā€ a collection of short stories set in the heart of this magnificent city.

First Stop: Trevi Fountain

As soon as we arrived in Rome, the first thing we did was head to the Trevi Fountain, that iconic sight from so many movies. Honestly, it was even more breathtaking in person. It's the most incredible, fantastical sculpture, towering above the piazza. There were throngs of people around, each tossing in a coin, wishing for a return visit. You know, itā€™s a little bit magic, isn't it? I can't tell you the excitement bubbling up inside of me!

After we had soaked in the beauty of the Trevi Fountain, we headed to the nearby Pantheon. Talk about a timeless wonder! It was almost surreal stepping into the massive, circular building, with its dome bathed in soft, ethereal light. I just couldn't help but stand in awe of the genius of Roman architecture! And speaking of Roman architecture, let's not forget the Colosseum! That was on our schedule for tomorrow.

La Dolce Vita, and A Touch of Fashion

We found a charming little trattoria for lunch, filled with locals, of course! I had a delicious pasta dish with pesto sauce and grilled artichokes, oh my! And wouldnā€™t you know it, I even managed to sneak in a ballet lesson before we dined, finding a charming studio nestled amongst the ancient streets. You can't resist the urge to pirouette and twirl in a place as vibrant as this!

After lunch, we set off for some serious shopping! The shopping in Rome is something else, darlings! My shopping list was a mix of practicality and indulgence, with a pair of elegant leather boots for the cobblestones and some handmade jewellery as souvenirs.

Of course, I didnā€™t leave the shops without treating myself to a brand new pink tutu. This one, a delicate shade of bubblegum pink, with tiny diamante detailing. It felt perfect, just for dancing amongst the ancient ruins.

An Evening of Elegance

This evening, weā€™re going to the Opera House for a performance of Verdiā€™s Aida. Iā€™ve always adored Italian Opera, and the costumes are just fabulous! I think a shimmering red tutu might be just the thing. I mean, how glamorous is that!

And guess what? Tomorrow, after the Colosseum, weā€™re going to find a ballet school and hopefully see if we can sneak in for a performance. Fingers crossed for some inspiration!

Rome, you have my heart, completely. Itā€™s magical, enchanting, and already feels like a second home. I just canā€™t wait to explore more. Stay tuned, my darlings, for more pink-tutu fuelled adventures!

Love,

Emma
