Pink Tutu Rome: #88 Ciao Bella!

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday, so that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Rome blog post! Today's adventures are coming from the Eternal City itself.

It's been an absolute whirlwind here in Rome. Honestly, the air is buzzing with history and romance, which makes even this tutu-clad ballerina feel like a princess stepping straight out of a fairytale. I arrived in style, naturally. My favourite high-speed train, the Eurostar, took me all the way from Paris, and I felt like Cinderella escaping the ball, with a gorgeous new sparkly clutch bag for good measure.

Pink Perfection: The Italian Style Scene

My first order of business was to soak in the Roman fashion scene, of course. Forget the tired old stereotype of "only black and white" in Italy – the women here have a style that's all their own! There's so much bright colour, beautiful textures, and incredible silhouettes. Even the street vendors seem to be decked out in amazing outfits – not a trackie bottom or pair of ripped jeans in sight! It's truly inspiring!

I did, of course, have a little rummage around the shops. Who can resist a trip to a fancy Italian boutique? I came away with a stunning pink scarf, a delicate pair of coral earrings (they'll look perfect with my tutu), and some adorable little silk flowers to weave into my hair. Let's just say, the Roman women were giving me serious fashion goals!

Stepping into a Roman Fairytale: The Colosseum

On Tuesday, I had an absolute treat. It was finally time to explore the legendary Colosseum! Seeing it in person, standing there, was something else entirely. It was almost magical. I felt transported to ancient times, just picturing the gladiators, the cheers of the crowd, the scent of leather and dust. It's just the kind of history that makes you realise how small we are and how incredible it is that humanity can build such magnificent structures. It's no wonder it's one of the Seven Wonders of the World!

I took hundreds of pictures, naturally! I think the best one was my shot of me pirouette-ing with the Colosseum in the background. My pink tutu did look absolutely smashing against the ancient stone!

Roman Cuisine: The Foodie Adventures

No trip to Italy is complete without the food. Mamma Mia! Let me tell you, Roman food is a serious treat. We’re talking perfect pasta dishes, freshly baked bread, delectable meats and, of course, plenty of delicious gelato. It’s the type of food that just makes you want to sing a little song. It's certainly helped explain why so many Italians have those gorgeous, curvy figures - the food here is just heavenly!

Culture Shock: The Unexpected Charm of Piazza Navona

Yesterday I ventured to Piazza Navona, one of the most popular piazzas in Rome. Let's be honest, I thought it might be overrun with tourists, and maybe a little too chaotic for me. But, honestly, it was wonderful! I saw street performers, jugglers, and even some artists painting the most incredible landscapes on their easels. It was full of laughter, joy, and energy. The heart of the piazza is truly buzzing. Plus, it’s surrounded by the most stunning baroque architecture - you literally can't help but feel a sense of awe. Even the pigeons seemed to be enjoying the fun!

Opera Night! The Magic of Italian Music

This evening is going to be a special one – I’m off to the Opera. I'm very excited! It's "La Traviata" and they say that Roman Opera is just phenomenal. Of course, I’ll be dressed to the nines. You just know that my trusty pink tutu is going to have a grand time at the Teatro dell'Opera. It just feels like a really glamorous and romantic way to end this week.

My Inspiration: A Pink Tutu Ballet on the Piazza

For my next Roman adventure, I'm working on a secret little project… a surprise flash mob! I'm gathering a team of local ballet dancers who have fallen for the Pink Tutu movement (because, honestly, how could you not?!), and we're going to be dancing to a special, dreamy ballet piece right here on Piazza Navona. We are planning to showcase a very special routine to my favourite "La Sylphide" ballet. I know it's a bit ambitious but trust me, you just need to see it!

Keep your eyes peeled, Rome, because the Pink Tutu movement is just getting started! Until next Wednesday, ciao!

Love, Emma

Pink Tutu Rome: Week Eight Update: From The Archives:

This was the first time I had the opportunity to post my travels to Rome, back in February 1997. Looking back, it's hilarious to think about just how "baby steps" it all was for me, but still incredibly poignant and special. It was then and there that the Pink Tutu movement started! So grateful for how far I have come - I never would have guessed how incredible these travels would become. I will definitely be planning another trip to this city!

Keep twirling!
