Pink Tutu Rome: #99 – A Whirlwind of Italian Charm (and Pink, of course!)

Ciao bella!

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where dreams dance on pointe shoes and tutus rule the world (at least, I’m working on it!). This week, it’s all about Rome – the Eternal City, the city of love, and (if you ask me) a city that begs to be twirled in.

This post marks the 99th instalment in my Roman odyssey. You’ll be pleased to hear it’s not all dusty old ruins and gladiatorial history (though, they’re pretty awesome, too). There's a certain pink magic swirling through Rome this week – and I’m at the epicentre!

Flashback to a Derbyshire Dream

This trip started, as always, with a journey on the Eurostar – my favourite form of transport. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of speed, the rhythmic clickety-clack, and the excitement of knowing that a new adventure is waiting for me.

On this particular voyage, I was reminiscing about my Derbyshire days, and the joy of the annual ballet performances at my local village hall. It’s where my love of dance truly blossomed. A flash of pink would dance in front of my eyes - a sparkly tutu from the costume box! It felt like magic back then. And that magic’s still a part of me today – only now it takes me to destinations like this… swishes hand dramatically towards the Colosseum

Fashion, Shopping & Fun!

Before I even arrived in Rome, my inner ballerina was planning the outfit de jour – naturally, it had to be pink. A blush-toned floral dress with a swirly tutu skirt – perfect for navigating the narrow streets and ancient alleys, or for having a coffee under the iconic Pantheon. Oh, the places this tutu shall go!

The best part about Rome (apart from the ancient marvels and the endless sunshine) is the shopping! Imagine endless rows of shops bursting with colourful scarves, beautiful hand-painted ceramics, and stylish designer shoes – it’s truly a shopaholic’s dream. I snagged a beautiful blush pink scarf to go with my outfits, as well as a pair of silver sandals with cute pom-poms (naturally!) They'll be perfect for twirling through the Roman streets, I think!

Rome’s Quirky Charms

This city just pulls you in, with its beautiful buildings, its friendly locals (who seem to love tutus just as much as I do), and its truly delicious food. The fresh pasta, the perfectly brewed coffee, and the gelato that’s served with a smile - Rome knows how to treat a ballerina!

It’s hard not to be charmed by this ancient city – its whispers of gladiators and emperors, the romantic charm of the fountains, and the simple joy of watching a street musician playing beautiful melodies… I could stay here forever. I’ve even found myself enjoying opera performances on open-air stages. Sometimes I like to think that the famous Roman emperors watched something similar hundreds of years ago!

A Day to Remember

Today, on April 30th, 1997, the sun was shining beautifully on the Spanish Steps - and I had to wear a pink tutu to celebrate the day! You know, a little pink to add to the vibrant Roman energy… People just stopped and looked at me. I think the Roman ladies really appreciated my tutu, they all seemed so genuinely delighted.

I did get to have lunch on the Piazza Navona, people-watching, feeling the Italian energy – all that delicious street-side chaos. And afterwards, I walked to the Trevi Fountain - the magic place that fulfills wishes. I even threw in a coin to guarantee a future trip to this incredible city.

Twirling Onward

With every city I visit, my quest to inspire people to embrace their inner ballerina and wear pink tutus continues. Maybe someday, Rome will be the epicentre of tutu-wearing, but until then, I'll be here, swirling with delight and making my pink mark on this beautiful city.

Until next time, stay twirling!

Love,

Emma
