#PinkTutuRome - Post 108: Rome, Oh Rome!

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, back from the cobbled streets of Rome, and let me tell you, this city has stolen my heart (and my purse - those designer boutiques are just begging to be explored!).

Today is Wednesday, 2nd July 1997, and as per usual, I'm hitting you with another juicy #PinkTutuRome post straight from my Roman adventure. This week, it's all about embracing the magic of Rome, exploring hidden gems, and of course, discovering some seriously fabulous fashion.

Now, you know how I am – a little bit of ballet class, a dash of theatre, and a whole lot of tutu. That's what makes me tick, and believe me, Rome delivers! This week has been an explosion of colour, culture, and – you guessed it – pink!

We touched down in Rome on a crisp Monday morning, after a delightful train journey through the French countryside. Oh, the sheer joy of travelling by train! You can practically taste the croissants and buttery French bread from the windows, and the rhythm of the rails just seems to settle me right into travel mode.

Once in Rome, it was straight to our charming little apartment tucked away near the Campo de' Fiori. I absolutely love the idea of experiencing a city through the eyes of the locals. Imagine, breakfast in the bustling Campo de' Fiori market, with the sun shining through the red and orange awnings and the scent of fresh coffee and roasted nuts filling the air! Heavenly.

We even bumped into a street performer right outside our window, twirling away in a stunning bright pink tutu. Don't worry, I managed to subtly convince him to try a little pirouette for me! You can see our little impromptu "performance" on my Instagram @pinktutuemma - do go have a peep, darling!

Speaking of performance, I was completely blown away by the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma this week. I just had to see the majestic theatre in person, and, of course, catch a breathtaking performance of “La Traviata." The theatre itself is an architectural wonder - a beautiful, opulent setting fit for royalty, all decked out with gorgeous paintings and exquisite carvings. It almost feels like stepping back in time. The whole experience was magical, I simply cannot recommend it enough!

But even more magical than the theatre were the streets themselves. Wandering the ancient cobblestone alleys of Rome felt like stepping back in time. I fell completely head over heels for the charming cafes with their perfectly crafted lattes and fresh pastries – I actually think I sampled every flavour of gelato they had! We explored the Colosseum, stood in awe before the Pantheon, and marveled at the artistry of the Trevi Fountain, and everywhere I went, I saw echoes of Rome’s glorious history and vibrant cultural heart.

My favourite moment, however, was a visit to the Vatican Museum. The sheer artistry of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel left me speechless. His frescoes, showcasing the most dramatic scene of Judgement Day, were incredible! They filled me with such inspiration – maybe next time I'll try to incorporate that dramatic pose in one of my performances!

The food in Rome is simply divine, darlings! Everything was bursting with flavour, and you could tell they were truly passionate about cooking here. From delicious spaghetti carbonara and creamy panna cotta to fresh pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven, each bite was a delicious discovery. And who can resist a good pizza, am I right? I swear, those crispy, charred edges... Pure magic!

My week wasn't just about culture and history; it was about fashion too! We wandered through Rome’s exquisite shops and boutiques, where I finally found the perfect new pink dress. It's a lightweight chiffon number with delicate ruffles and floral patterns – absolute perfection! I paired it with my trusty ballet flats for an effortlessly chic look, perfect for strolling through the picturesque streets. And as I waltzed through Rome's bustling market squares, the sheer joy of finding that perfect pink dress just solidified this as one of my favourite trips!

Now, darlings, you know how I love a good pink tutu, and Rome has certainly inspired me! I’m already dreaming of returning next year for another adventure – perhaps even a ballet class by the Colosseum?!

Until then, keep an eye out for my #PinkTutuRome blog next week. Who knows what exciting adventures Rome has in store for me next. I have a feeling this city will forever hold a special place in my heart - it’s not every day you can dance through ancient history in a pink tutu!

Ciao, and remember, stay fabulous,

Emma xx
