Pink Tutu Rome: #110 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 1997-07-16

Buongiorno, darlings!

It's me, Emma, your pink tutu-clad guide to all things fabulous, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be in Rome! This is post number 110 for my Italian adventures, and oh, the stories I could tell! I’ve had my nose buried in history books, my heart overflowing with delicious gelato, and my ears singing with the glorious sound of opera!

Now, Rome...where to begin? It’s like stepping into a postcard come to life, each corner brimming with history, beauty, and sunshine! It feels like a place that’s steeped in ancient stories, yet is pulsing with life and laughter. The air is thick with the scent of fresh pasta, leather goods, and the tang of freshly baked bread. This city is simply a delight for the senses, and my pink tutu is twirling with glee.

My Rome Essentials:

You all know that a Pink Tutu adventure wouldn’t be complete without the perfect ensemble, and my Rome wardrobe is pure chic. It wouldn’t be a trip to Italy without embracing the beautiful fabrics and intricate designs. Think luxurious silk scarves in colours of sunset sunsets, flowing skirts that twirl in the breeze, and yes, a few strategically chosen pink tutus! (Because one can never have too much pink, darlings!). And naturally, the pièce de résistance: a straw hat, adorned with delicate silk ribbons, a touch of playful romance for those balmy Roman evenings.

Travel in Style

My journey here was just as dreamy as Rome itself! Travelling by train is my absolute favourite. The chugging rhythm of the tracks, the scenic vistas whizzing by, and the chance to mingle with locals - it's all so charming and delightful. Plus, there's something quite enchanting about being on a journey, knowing that a new adventure awaits!

Roman Rendezvous: A Night at the Opera

Speaking of enchanting, one of my most treasured memories of Rome was attending a performance at the Teatro dell’Opera. The moment the velvet curtains parted, a wave of emotion washed over me. This was no ordinary show; this was a glimpse into Italian soul.

The voices soared, powerful and ethereal, the music stirring something deep inside me, and the energy of the theatre was electrifying. You could feel the history of this grand space, the tales of so many legendary performers who had graced that stage. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so alive, so present, so truly connected to the beauty of art.

A Stroll through History

Exploring Rome has been a thrilling journey through time. I’ve spent countless hours wandering the cobbled streets of the ancient forum, picturing Roman gladiators and senators, the city's vibrant life long ago. Standing before the Colosseum, a masterpiece of engineering, my mind is abuzz with thoughts of those gladiatorial contests. The sheer scale of this ancient marvel is breath-taking.

Of course, a visit to Rome wouldn’t be complete without marveling at the treasures of the Vatican City. I felt a sense of reverence as I stood before Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Those iconic frescoes - a symphony of colour, emotion, and spirituality – are truly captivating. And St. Peter’s Basilica, the epitome of architectural grandeur, left me breathless with awe.

The Joy of Gelato

Now, I can’t talk about Italy without mentioning its most heavenly creation - Gelato! The creamy, dreamy, sweet textures, the vibrant colours, the endless flavours! It's truly an experience to savour, and every day, I’ve indulged in at least one generous scoop of this creamy bliss. From the classics like hazelnut and pistachio to more unique offerings like ricotta and fig, the gelato here is nothing short of an artistic masterpiece!

My Pink Tutu Style Guide

Remember, darlings, life is meant to be embraced with joy and a dash of pink! So let your hair down, put on your pinkest tutu, and head to Rome. It's a place that promises to awaken your inner diva, whether you’re enjoying the exquisite art, dancing beneath a starry sky, or savouring a cup of authentic espresso in a sunny piazza. This is the Rome that I’ve fallen in love with, a city of enchantment, where even a pink tutu-wearing ballerina like me feels perfectly at home.

Stay fabulous, darlings!

Until next week, Emma
