Pink Tutu Rome: Ciao Bella! - Post #119

Wednesday, 17th September, 1997

Buongiorno bella! The Italian sun is shining, the air is buzzing with chatter, and I'm in Rome! Oh my, darling, the city just seems to pulsate with life. The moment we stepped off the train at Termini station, it was as if the city embraced us with a warm, "Benvenuti!** (Welcome!).

As you know, I adore train travel. It's just so...romantic. And of course, perfect for getting that essential look right. This trip, I've gone for a classic ballerina elegance. My pink silk scarf flowing in the breeze, a pale pink linen dress - just flowing, and a soft blush pink tutu, just the right amount of whimsy for a first day of Italian adventures.

Speaking of adventures, our hotel is absolutely fabulous. It's nestled in a quaint, little back street just off the bustling Via Veneto. The moment I saw it, I knew I was in for a treat. Imagine: wisteria cascading over the front door, and a sweet little courtyard brimming with flowers and flickering candlelight. It’s a dream, my darlings. I've already started writing down all my Italian phrases for the bellhop; "Buona Sera," "Grazie", and "Perfetto". Let's just say that by the end of this week, I'll be fluent enough to order the perfect Aperol Spritz. πŸ˜‰

The first order of business - the Colosseum. A majestic sight indeed! Imagine gladiators battling lions, the roar of the crowd - it sends shivers down my spine. We spent a couple of hours wandering around, and then...well, how could we resist an obligatory ice cream stop? Gelato so rich, creamy and utterly delicious! We shared a tub of "Stracciatella" - chocolate chips mixed into smooth vanilla - simply heavenly. It was so good, we had to get a second tub, no judging! πŸ˜‚

And on a Fashion Note...

Rome is a shopper's paradise. I spotted some exquisite silks, so much gorgeous pink (of course!), sparkling brooches...oh, the temptations! I couldn't resist picking up a beautiful antique hand mirror for my boudoir. It's a delicate, ivory thing, with swirling designs, the perfect addition to my collection. Later, after a nap and a cuppa, we took a walk through the lovely gardens at Villa Borghese. Such a picturesque spot with blooming roses and crystal clear fountains. I had to snap some pics for the Instagram, and a little photo shoot with my new pink ballerina slippers, a cheeky pose amidst the fragrant blooms! You'll just have to wait until Thursday to see! πŸ’–

We ended our day with a delightful, little surprise. A street performance - imagine - a troupe of ballerinas performing 'The Dying Swan'! They were absolutely incredible, their movements so fluid, and expressive. It truly brought back the memories of my days in the ballet school. And...oh, the thrill of being reminded that even in the most unexpected places, you can find the magic of ballet. And that my dears, is one of life's greatest joys!

Now, off to a traditional Italian restaurant, just a short walk away. We are so excited to be indulging in "spaghetti carbonara" followed by "tiramisu".

The day ends with a contented sigh. Rome has stolen my heart.

Until next week, darling,

Emma πŸ’• * www.pink-tutu.com*
