Pink Tutu Rome: Wednesday 1997-10-08 - Ciao Bella!
Post 122: My Roman Holiday (so far)
Buongiorno, darling readers! This is Emma from the Derbyshire Dales, checking in from the Eternal City itself – Rome! As you know, I adore exploring the world in my beloved pink tutu, and this week, I’ve traded the rolling hills of my home county for the ancient, romantic cobblestone streets of Rome. It’s simply divine!
This week’s adventure began on Sunday. My train journey to Rome was absolutely delightful. As I whizzed past the glorious countryside, my heart sang. It’s amazing how a simple journey can bring such joy when you’re travelling in a pink tutu. I was getting so many stares – every time we stopped, it was like the entire station was just staring at my outfit! (I’m so glad, it really did make my journey, I’ve always been one to like to turn heads and make an entrance). All those Italian men seemed to be completely enchanted by my look! And when I put on my beautiful pink sparkly earrings (they matched the sequin details on my tutu), even the station guards were smitten.
Arriving at Roma Termini, I was mesmerized by the city's bustle. The sights, the sounds, the scents – everything was an exciting explosion of colours and textures. It reminded me so much of my favourite ballet – "Giselle" – the vibrant backdrop of the French countryside, the passion of the dancing – it was all there in the air of Rome!
My little hotel (it’s actually called the ‘Ballet Palace’, how lucky! I swear they must have built it just for me!), is nestled right next to the Colosseum. The history surrounding this grand, ancient building is captivating. Imagine gladiators clashing in combat just metres away from where I am right now! It's almost as exciting as opening night of "The Nutcracker"!
A Shopping Spree Fit for a Princess!
The very first thing I did, of course, was indulge in a spot of retail therapy! (Gotta keep that tutu collection stocked, darling.) Let's just say, Rome is heaven on earth for any tutu-loving girl! The shop windows are bursting with sequins, tulle, and endless swathes of the most beautiful pink fabrics you've ever seen. I couldn't resist a little pair of ballet pumps with little pink bows, and they went perfectly with my pale pink tutu! (Although I must say, I did pick up another pink tutu to add to my collection; it’s made of layers of the softest, silkiest material, a complete bargain, I might add – how lucky am I that this lovely little boutique had a 20% off sale? You know what I say – when it comes to pink, there can never be too much!).
I also indulged in the most scrumptious gelato I've ever tasted – strawberry flavour, of course. What could be more Italian than ice cream? But you have to watch out for the cobblestones in your lovely pink tutu, especially after the delicious gelato – a bit of a sticky mess but completely worth it!
The Trevi Fountain and my Tutu Dreams
This morning, I made my way to the iconic Trevi Fountain – a spectacular feat of artistry. It truly lives up to the hype! I couldn’t help but be struck by the graceful flow of water cascading down from the fountain – it was like watching a graceful ballet performance. I felt the need to pay tribute to my muse and dipped my hand into the fountain, making my wish, of course, that everyone in the world will someday wear a pink tutu! Who wouldn't want to see the joy on every face as the world becomes a sea of shimmering pink!
Dinner at La Trattoria - with a Touch of Tutu-liciousness
Later tonight, I'll be having dinner at a quaint little trattoria that I discovered tucked away in a side street. You can be sure that my little pink tutu will make a statement there too. They say Italian food is some of the best in the world. (Well, after ballet performances, of course!). So I’m having the special, which is salmon. A little protein boost after a long day!
Stay tuned, my dears, for more updates on my Roman adventures! It's been an amazing start, and I can't wait to share all my discoveries, my shopping finds, and maybe even a surprise or two!
Ciao Bella!
